Chapter 13: Keeping secrets

We're sitting in the car silently staring out the window, lost in our thoughts.

"What are we going to do," I whisper.

Danny looks over at me and grabs my hand saying, "I don't know but we'll get through this together, I promise."

I break down into tears and he pulls me into his arms, rubbing my back to soothe me.

After ten minutes, I am finally calmed down and I say, "We should get to school."

He nods and starts up the car.

"We shouldn't tell anyone, at least not yet," I tell him as we walk into the school.

"Whatever you think is best, I stand by you," he says, pulling me into a side hug and kissing the top of my head.

We stop by the office to hand them a doctor's note to excuse us from the first two periods we missed. We find everyone and they immediately bombard us with questions.

"Sorry, we just wanted a little time together. We haven't spent much time together because of her being sick," Danny says, quickly coming up with an excuse. He looks down at me with a smile and I lean up to kiss him.

"Aww, you guys are so cute," Ariel squeals.

We laugh at her and head to the cafeteria.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After school, we all head to my house to hang out and do homework.

"Does anyone want anything to eat," I ask as we walk in. "My mom and dad went out with the twins, so they won't be back for a while."

"Can we go out to eat after we're done with homework," Beth asks.

"Yes! Food is life," I yell.

They all laugh at me and we head to the family room to do some homework.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Pass me the salt Dan," Jerrico nudges Danny.

"Say please honey," Danny replies, making me choke on my water in laughter.

Danny starts freaking out, "Babe, breathe!"

"I'm fine," I tell him after I finally get my breathing under control.

"Dude chill, you act like she was gonna die," Brian says giving him a confused look.

"I know, it's just that after she was sick I want to make sure she's okay," Danny quickly comes up with an excuse.

I give him a quick peck on the cheek and tell him that I love him.

I ordered a salad and a burger because the doctor says that I should eat plenty of fruits and veggies and I also wanted a burger.

We hang out until it gets dark and then head out to go home.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow," I tell them with hugs.

Everyone says their goodbyes and we head to our respective cars.

"Do you want to come over and stay the night," I ask him.

"Yeah, we can cuddle and talk," he says pulling into my driveway.

We go in and stop by the living room to say hi to my parents.

"Hey mama, hey daddy," I say going and giving them hugs. "Is it okay if Danny stays over? I promise to keep the door open."

"I don't know sweetie," mom says apprehensively, while dad says, "Hell no."

"Please! We have barely been able to spend time together and I just want to cuddle," I say while crying.

"Mardrianna, it is not that serious," dad says.

I just continue to cry, not able to stop. Danny pulls me into a hug and rubs my back.

"Honey, one night won't hurt and the door will be open," mom says to dad.

"Fine," he gives in. "Don't try to get handsy with my daughter Daniel."

"Yes sir," Danny quickly responds.

He releases me and I wipe my tears saying, "Really?"

"Yeah honey, it's okay. Just keep it PG," mom says.

I squeal and give them hugs. Wow, my hormones are all over the place.

I grab Danny and drag him up the stairs. I change while he takes off his shirt and shoes, then we hop into bed. We lay down in silence for a while before we start talking.

"I can't believe I'm pregnant," I whisper.

"I can't believe I got you pregnant," he whispers back.

"We're gonna get through this right," I ask looking up at him.

"We will. I don't know how, but we will."

He leans down, gives me a kiss and we fall asleep.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been about two weeks and it's Saturday which means I'm having my first ultrasound appointment. I've begun to show a little which is kind of strange.

"I'm so nervous, are you nervous? I feel like I'm going to throw up," Danny says.

I grab his hand. "Calm down, it'll be okay."

He takes a few breaths and we walk into the hospital. We go up to the front desk and get signed in.

We finally get called back and I start to feel the nerves kick in.

"Hello Mardrianna, Daniel. How are we feeling today," Doctor Stringer asks when she walks in.

"I'm great, just a little nervous," Danny tells her.

We both look at his and then roll our eyes. "She was talking to me, honey."

"Oh, that makes more sense," he says with a nervous laugh.

I grab his hand, give it a squeeze, and we continue on with the appointment.

"This is going to be a bit cold, but I'll try to warm it up a bit," she tells me.

She puts a gel on a wand thing and then rubs it on my lower stomach. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be.

"If you look there, you can see your ba-, oh, well this is interesting," she says moving the wand around some more.

"Is there something wrong with my baby," I ask with panic.

"No, everything looks good with the babies," she says with a smile.

"Okay good, I was concerned," I say while Danny says, "Babies? As in more than one?"

"Yep, it looks like you're having twins," she says with a smile on her face.
