Chapter 12: Explanations

*Meanna*

"Hello, Meanna. How are you feeling," the doctor says after taking a few vitals and writing some stuff down in her chart.

"I feel like I haven't moved in years. My body is all stiff and I feel awful," I tell him honestly.

My mom grabs my hand and gives it a big squeeze. Everyone showed up at the hospital about thirty minutes after I woke up. My parents and brothers haven't left my side since they got here, with my mom silently crying tears of joy.

"That's pretty normal for comatose patients to feel sluggish and tired after they have woken up," he tells me and then continues. "Do you have any pain or discomfort?"

"A little but not too much," I reply.

He asks me a few more questions and runs a few more tests before finally leaving me with my family, who look so relieved to see that I am awake and well.

"You scared us there for a minute peanut," dad says, bending down and kissing me on the forehead.

"Sorry, I'll try not to get injured next time and almost die," I tell him sarcastically.

He rolls his eyes at me but gives me a small smile.

"What happened and how long have I been out," I ask after a round of hugs from everyone.

"You've been in a coma for a year," Jax says with a straight face.

I stare at him in horror and let out a loud gasp.

"A year," I screech out.

"Jaxon Lee Roberts! Stop messing with your sister," mom yells at him while smacking his arm multiple times.

"Ow! It was a joke, just chill," he yells back at her rubbing his arm.

"It's only been a month," Elijah tells me rolling his eyes at our obnoxious brother.

"This is why you are my favorite brother," I tell him.

"Hey, that's hurtful," Jax yells.

I ignore him and ask what landed me in the hospital for a month.

"What do you remember from that night," Jaxon asks me in a serious voice.

I take a minute to think about what went on that night. I remember that we had special ops training for our finals and then actual gunshots going off.

"We had a training and then gunshots went off. I got shot," I say, the events of that night slowly returning to me.

"Yeah you did, as well as four others," Jax tells me somberly.

"Did anyone die," I ask in a whisper. I don't know if I actually want to know but I asked anyway.

"Colt died during surgery," he tells me.

I let out a shaky breath and lean my head back, looking up toward the ceiling trying to hold in my tears. I wasn't close friends with Colt, but he was a sweet guy and didn't deserve to die.

Just then there is a knock on the door and my boyfriend walks in. He smiles upon seeing me up and talking, which in turn makes me smile back at him.

"Hey you," I say when he comes over to stand by my brother who is on my right side.

"Hey baby, you really scared me when I thought we lost you," he says, bending over to kiss me on the forehead.

"You can't get rid of me that easily," I tell him in a teasing tone.

"You are definitely a fighter, you get that from your mother," dad tells me with a beaming smile.

My mom laughs at his comment and then comes closer to hug me and kiss me on the cheek.

"I'm so happy you're okay sweetie," she tells me.

I give her a smile as more family and friends come in.

"I'm pretty sure all these people in one room are not allowed," I say with an amused smile after catching up with everyone for a while.

"We have to head home anyway. It's time for your pawpaw's bedtime," grandma Sheril says which makes us all laugh.

Everyone slowly starts to leave until it is just my twin and friends left in the room.

"Don't ever scare me like that again young lady," Jen scolds me.

"Yes ma'am," I respond with a small chuckle.

*Jaxon*

Seeing my twin awake and cracking jokes brings me so much relief and happiness. I thought I was going to lose her and I don't know what I would have done without my other half.

We're sitting in her room alone as everyone left to go do different things. I have barely left her side since she has been in the hospital and now that she is awake I want to be closer to her more than ever.

"When are they going to let me out of here," she groans randomly.

I look at her amused with her random outburst.

"They'll probably release you within the next couple of days," I tell her, turning back to the tv.

"Ugh, I'm just ready to get out of here and go home to my bed," she whines, making me chuckle.

"Don't be such a baby. You'll be out of here before you know it."

"How long is the school going to be shut down?"

The topic of school makes me wince slightly. We explained everything that has happened and what's been going on since she's been in dreamland, including the indefinite shutdown of our school.

"It'll probably be a while. I think Auntie A wants to give everyone some time to process what happened. It really shook everyone up," I say. "Some parents even talked about possibly unenrolling their kids."

She gasps and looks down in thought.

I just look at her for a while as she continues to process all of the information that has been given to her over the last few hours since she has woken up.

The 10 o'clock news comes on and it satisfies me.

'This just in, Jeremy Harper a known member of the Italian mafia was just found dead on the outskirts of the city. It is unknown if the police have any leads at this moment in time...'

"Was that the guy Junior got answers from," Mea asks me.

"Yep," is my response.

"Good, I hope he burns in hell for his involvement in the shooting," she says with malice in her tone with me nodding in agreement.

We talk about a bunch of random things until she falls asleep, with me not too far behind her.
