Save Then All

Inside, I did as my mother had instructed me and washed my hands, then I went into the kitchen to set the table. But when I got to the kitchen, I was too short to reach the cabinet.

"Tasha, you're only eight years old," Stellan said.

I gave him a dirty look and then smiled, knowing there was more than one way to skin a cat. So, I pulled a chair over to the cabinet, climbed up, and....

"Tasha! What do you think you're doing?" Mom asked behind me, causing me to jump.

Stellan laughed, leaning against the refrigerator. "There will be a lot of things that you're used to doing that you won't be able to do as a child."

"Mom!" I said, practically dropping the plate I was holding. "You almost caused me to drop this plate!"

A crease formed between her eyes, taking the plate from my hand. "You haven't answered my question, young lady. What are you doing?"

"I'm setting the table." I reached for the plate, but Mom held fast.

Mom scoffed. "Since when?"
