To Think of Others

The way the sun was shining the next morning, it was hard to believe that a tornado was going to hit Tennessee, maybe more than one. Over the years, I learned that Tennessee was a hotbed for tornadoes. I just hoped we could escape this one, but not run into another one in the process.

Colt was still sleeping beside me. His brown hair falling over one eye was so cute. I remembered when I was a child how cute I had always thought he was. If he lived, I knew he would grow up to be a handsome man. I just hoped he got the chance.

"Mom, wake up!" I yelled, shaking her shoulders. "We have to go!"

We were so close, but yet so far. I just hoped a tornado didn't follow us across the state line either. "Okay," I thought to myself. "Now, you're just getting paranoid."

"Tasha, we have to go." I turned around and Stellan was standing by the window. "We don't have much time. With any luck, maybe we can get halfway through Georgia, at least, before the tornado hits."
