Chapter 1

Sages' Pov

*5 months earlier*

"Mom do you need me or Dean to work? We will help you if you let us."

She kept looking at the counter. I could tell she didn't want to have this conversation right now.

She hesitantly spoke, " I-I am the mother b-but you can always have a job if that makes you happy."

She then looked straight into my eyes and smiled sweetly. I couldn't tell if it was fake or not.

I nodded and then smiled. " I can fill out applications sometime this week then."

She nodded and then turned around to finish cooking.

Me and my brother always got along and was there for each other whenever the other was in trouble after our dad left us. We would help our mother all the time. She was a single mom with two children. When our dad left us he took my two younger brothers Ryder and Noah. Noah being the youngest and Dean being the oldest. I was 15 when my dad left, so that leaves me as a 16 year old girl now. My brother was starting college when my dad left. He is 18 years old now. I see Ryder and Noah whenever I get the chance. My dad's new "super hot" model was never nice to me or anyone she saw with the last name Pierce except my dad.(of course) My dad owned his own buisness and was a multi millionaire. He pays us child support every month but thats all we really get from him. I still love my dad but bro can you not say hi once in a while.

*End of flashback*

Now I am working at Starbucks along with my brother. (Basic, I know right!)

My brother came in while I was doing my homework. I was listening to CORPSE: E-girls are ruining my life the volume was low though.

"Me and Maddie are gonna head out." He said pointing to Maddie. 

"Okay bye!" I said waving and smirking at them.

My brother rolled his eyes at me and smiled.

"Okay cya!" He said as he was closing the door.

I was expecting Maddox to come over anyway and being a brother, he has to be overprotective... I dont get it why can't we have guys over that we don't even have feelings for, but guys can just invite random girls over to do the dirty.

An hour later I heard the door ring and my mother went to answer. My mother always welcomed and liked Maddox we were best friends since the 2nd grade. My mom and Maddox's mom were also best friends, so I guess thats another reason why she liked him so much.

She motioned him inside "Sage is upstairs, will you be staying for dinner?"

"Um yeah sure mother."

I could see her smile at that. "Okay I will make extra then!"

Maddox started calling my mom his mom when middle school started, so it wasn't a suprise to me.

Maddox walked up the stairs when he go to the top he looked at me and then smiled. I smiled too and waved at him.

"Hey Sage"

It wasn't to long until I felt his his arms around me pulling me towards him into a hug. I hugged back of course. He let me go a minute later, or so it felt like.

"Have you finished your homework?" he said pulling out books from his bag.

"Yep!"

"Well then can you lend me a hand!" He said while smirking.

I rolled my eyes, "Sure..."

He didn't take long copying my notes as he was copying them I was rambling about these hot guys on TikTok including Willy Wonka ;).

"Do you want to go to Starbucks?"

"You dont have to ask me twice!" I said jumping up and smiling.

I held my hand out to grab his hand. He accepted my hand, and we walked to his car since his was cleaner...

When we got in the car I played Billie Eillish. He was used to me playing my music though, so he didn't care.

I texted Dean to tell him I was going out with Maddox just in case he got back before me. While I was texting him Maddox turned on Lil Nas X.

I looked up and over at him he was smiling but his eyes were still on the road.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head, and went back to texting my brother.

When we got to Starbucks he opened my door. People usally mistake us as a couple, but we were just very close friends. I used to have a crush on him back in middle school. When we got to highschool I thought of how much we could loose this friendship and decided it was time to move on. I went on and followed my heart out of that mind set.

Now I just thought of him as my brother.

"Thanks!" I said as he closed the door.

When we walked in I could smell the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino, but we knew the only thing I was here for and the best coffee in the world was the Iced Guava Passionfruit.

I ordered the Iced Guava Passionfruit and two chocolate chip cookie dough cake pop.

He ordered the Salted Caramel Mocha Coffee Frappuccino and the chocolate croissant.

After we ordered we went to the back corner to eat.

"So since Christmas break is soon Sylvia, Indigo, and I decided to go to California for break." He said while sipping on his coffee.

I looked at him confused on how we were gonna pay for that.

"It's pretty random, but we were kinda tired of the cold so we decided to go somewhere warm and fun." He continued.

"How will we pay" I asked confused.

I only had a few hundred buck in my bank account, and half of it was for my mom...

"Well Indigo got with a few other people including your brother and Bryce."

"Bryce Harrington?" I said shocked.

"Yep!"

"How did you guys get him to agree?" I asked still shocked.
