Chapter 8

Hayden came downstairs with a box in his hands. The box had these big, worn-out letters on it.

Quija

"Hayden! Where the hell did you get that?" Dad yells angrily

"I traded with one of my friends," Hayden says shyly.

Hayden puts the board down on the table and tells my mom to grab some candles. My mom places the candles around the board. Hayden lights them with his lighter and puts the planchette on the board.

"Okay...so now, everyone sit down and put 2 fingers on the planchette" Hayden instructs. My parents and brothers sit down at the table and place their fingers on the object. They spin the planchette around the board three times before Reece asks the first question, "Are you here Cordelia?"

I put my fingers on the planchette and move it.

They all stare at the ouija board with extremely wide eyes. My mom's tears started streaming down her pale cheeks.

"Hey baby," My dad says.

I moved the planchette over the letters. My brothers smile brighter than I've seen in days.

"Why are you here Cor?" Hayden asks.

I spell out. My family looks at each other, but by their looks, I can tell they think I just couldn't leave them behind. Which I wouldn't but...I'm stuck on Earth.

All of the sudden, the clock strikes 7. My mom stood up and went over to the oven, pulling out a meatloaf. She prepared the food on the plates and handed it to my brother's and dad.

After they ate their dinner, they said goodnight to me and then they went upstairs. Hayden, however, stayed downstairs as if he was waiting for something. Just then, the doorbell rang. Hayden jumped up from his seat and ran to the door. When he opened it, there he stood. He was wearing a grey t-shirt with dark blue jeans.

"Are you fucking high or something? Why did you want me to come over?" Jay groaned, irritated.

"I found a way to talk to her!" Hayden dragged him to the kitchen.

"Who?" He asked

"Cordelia! Duh!" Hayden says. Jay's eyes widened when he looked at the ouija board on the cleaned table.

"You really believe this shit?" Jay taunts with a humorless chuckle.

"Yes! Reece and my parents did it too! She's really talking to us! She's here man!" Hayden smiles.

"Look H, it's been a long few days for us but Cordelia's gone" Jay attempted to convince but Hayden forced him to sit down. Hayden puts his fingers down on the planchette. Jay looked at him like he was crazy but soon rolled his eyes and put his fingers on too.

"Hey Cor! You still here?" Hayden asked, his voice was filled with hope. I placed my fingers on the planchette and moved it.

"Dude! This isn't funny!" Jay whisper-yells.

"It's not a joke, here, try it!" Hayden removed his fingers from the planchette. Jay looks skeptically at Hayden before looking around the room.

"Cordelia?" Jay asks

I hesitantly placed my fingers back onto the planchette.

I stare at his black eyes. His eyes were wide with shock.

"Hayden?"

"Yeah? What's up?"

"Can I borrow this for a bit?" Jay asks.

"Uh...yeah sure but don't hog it," Hayden says.

Jay stood from the table but before he packed everything up, he asked one last question,

"Cordelia? Can you follow me to my house?"

He packs up the board, thanks Hayden, and leaves the house with the board in his hands. I followed close behind him.
