"You don't have to worry, my Lady. I told him that you were busy attending to the reports I had submitted and that you would be down soon. Thank you for saving my head and returning early." 


Something hung in the air as Lewis set to leave. Diamant felt like she had to explain herself even though she owed him no obligation to do so. Words quickly blurted out of her mouth. "I spoke to Mercela yesterday." 


Lewis stopped, turned and nodded lightly. "I figured that out." 


"She has been shouting about a particular maid who serves the mother and has promised to speak to the Mother on her behalf." 


"You have been trying to help her again." Lewis sighed, almost like as if he was tired of dissuading a stubborn daughter from pursuing an impossible task. "My Lady, although I think this is a waste of time, I will still help you in every way possible."
