chapter 1

Hey, hey are you ready?

Are you ready to play?

Go team, go team!

Bears all the way!

Emelie Elisa Cullen, aka Miss Perfect. You know, the most popular girl in school. The prettiest one, with the most beautiful clothes.

"Man, she's so hot!" Dylan, a random kid said.

"She's way out of your league, bro." Steve replied to Dylan's comment.

The one with straight A's in everything, and a perfect manicure.

"Oh! It's Emelie! You can ask her for advice on what to wear for your date this weekend.” Alison suggested.

"Great idea! She always helps everyone!” Rose happily said.

I'm Emelie and I'm that girl they’re talking about.

"Thank you so much for your advice, Emelie!” Rose giggled.

"No problem.” I said to her and with that she skipped away happily.

"You're always so nice to everyone. I really don't know how you do it,” Crystal said to me.

"That's why she's the most popular girl in school and you're not.” Skylar snapped.

"Guys, stop!” I yelled at them.

The head cheerleader who is dating the quarterback.

"Hey girls, hey Emma,” Kim the quarterback greeted us along with his teammates.

"Hey, guys.” I replied.

"Hi, Kim.” Skylar smiled flirtatiously.

"Are you all ready for the bonfire party?" he asked.

"Of course! It's only the biggest, most fun senior tradition!” Skylar squealed happily.

"Not to mention the skinny dipping. It's going to be fun and scandalous.” she added."Great! Looking forward to seeing you guys there. Especially you, Emma.” And with that Kim and his followers left.

Well, I'm not dating the quarterback or anyone at the moment. All the boys I know in this school are either jerks or just not really interesting.I don't think I'm the prettiest girl in school, though.

"See you tomorrow,” Sabrina, a member of our cheer leading team, dismissed at the locker room after changing from her uniform.

We all got changed too. Oh, on with the story...

I also study like crazy to maintain my grades, so I'm proud to be a straight A student. But as for being popular... I actually have no idea why I'm popular. Maybe it's some kind of automatic status that comes with being the head cheerleader. Anyway, meet the squad.

"That was such an awesome routine!" Crystal said. She's the one who looks like a young Kerry Washington. She wants to be a professional cheerleader for the NFL.

"We were totally kicking ass." That's Skylar. Her dream is to move to LA and become an actress.

"I don't know, guys. I think our pyramid was a little wobbly.” So that's Bianca. She wants to be a vet. Oh, and she's a perfectionist.

"You're over analyzing again, Bianca." Skylar rudely said.

"Are you saying that because I'm Asian or because I’m Jewish, because that's racist."

"I’m saying that because you're a moron, you moron,” Skylar spat again.

The four of us have been bff's since middle school.

"Okay, but seriously though, our pyramid was a little wobbly. I'm the smallest, I should be at the top, but I'm scared of heights; it's all my fault!”

"Bianca, you were perfect. Our routine was perfection." I reassured her.

"We'd better get going if we want to join the bonfire party.” Bianca suggested.

"I've been looking forward to this exclusive party for years!" Skylar giggled happily.

"How do I look, girls? We have to look perfect for the party.” Bianca said.

"Oh, it's my mom's birthday today. We have a birthday dinner planned..." I mumbled.

"Come on, Em! Kim Le Chien said that he would skinny dip!" Skylar said loudly grinning from ear to ear like a mad woman.

"You've got such a mad crush on Kim." Bianca patted her shoulder.

"I just happen to admire his dedication to athletics, that's all."

"You mean you admire his six packs and stiff butt” I chuckled quietly, ignoring Skylar's slight glare.

"Come on, Emelie! It's our senior year, it's our last chance to have some fun! I even bought this special dress for you to wear to the bonfire. It's the latest limited edition dress by hot designer Gabriel. It's not even out in stores yet!" Bianca rambled.

"You guys go ahead. I'm going to head home early. Tell me all about it tomorrow."

"Oh, we will.” Bianca giggled "Especially if Skylar joins Kim in the water! Bye Mari, see ya tomorrow!”

Skylar's got such a big crush on Kim. I wish he would see that and finally ask her out instead of asking me out all the time... Mom's birthday party. I should call Dad to make sure I don’t screw this up. I picked up my phone dialed his number.

And of course he's not answering as usual. Maybe he's busy. I'll just hang up - I don't want to bother him if he's busy...

"Mom? I'm home!" I yelled.

"I'm in the kitchen!” yelled Mom.

"Happy birthday, Mom!”

"Thank you, Honey.” she smiled.

Suddenly I spotted a bottle of red wine. Did Mom have half the bottle all by herself? I decided to ask her.

Her reply was "Don't be silly, Emelie. It was already opened before. This is my first glass. Why don't you go and take a shower? Dinner will be ready in fifteen minutes.”

"Is...er...is Dad home yet?" I stuttered.

"I'm sure he'll turn up sooner or later.”

During dinner

"Can you stop drinking? You stink of alcohol," Dad said, clearly irritated with Mom's drinking.

"You stink of some slut’s perfume." Mom spat out.

"I don't have to sit here and listen to this." Dad said slamming his hands on the table

"Then fuck off!"

Dad stormed off, and within a few minutes Mom left too.

Our attic had a skylight that opened up onto the roof of the house. When I was younger, I frequently went up there to hide, whenever my parents were fighting. It was the only place where I couldn't hear them shouting at each other.

"Do the stars look brighter from up there?" an unknown voice startled me.

I turned around to look at the place where the voice seem to have come from and I happened to lay my eyes upon the most beautiful person I had ever seen. His green eyes pierced through the darkness and made my heart skip a beat.

"You're not contemplating jumping, are you?" Mystery guy said with his plump pink lips.

"What? No! I... Who are you!?" I asked Mr. Mystery.

He chuckled "Well, assuming that you live in that house... And you're not some kind of weirdo who climbs onto other people's rooftops, I guess I'm your new neighbor."

Oh, I guess they've finally sold the house next door. Great, I don't even have this spot anymore.

"Sorry, am I bothering you?"

"Well, I did come here to be alone..."

"I see. Well, I should leave you to your thoughts then." he said closing his window.

I can't let him leave like that. "Wait,"

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry. It's just been a rough day. I'm Emelie."

He gave me a long appraising look. I thought he wasn't going to reply."Austin." And with that he was gone.

The next day

While going to school, I saw a woman coming out from Austin's house next door. I wonder who she is?

"Can I help you?" She gave me a strange look.

With that I realized I was staring. Dang it. "I'm sorry if I was staring! I was just curious when I saw you come out of that house..."

"Oh! Hello! No, I don't live there, my son does. He just moved back to town and I wanted to see if he was alright in his new place. I should have called before coming over though."

"Why's that?" i asked

The woman bit her lip. "No one is home. I forgot he always leaves early to get his breakfast and his usual double espresso at Moonscape Coffee. Well, I have to go - it was nice to meet you!" She waved at me and I waved back.

Austin is having his breakfast at Moonscape Coffee. I should go pay him a visit... or not. I’m just going to head straight to school. I'll get to know Austin in time... I hope!

AT SCHOOL

When I arrived at school, I was bombarded with compliments.

"Hi, Emelie, I love your hair!"

"Hi and thanks." I replied as I waved at Rose

“Looking good as always, Emma.” Kim winked at moi. (while writing ‘moi’ it came to my mind. Then my mom told me to use ‘moi’ since it’s based in Paris. And I was like what... did she read my mind)

"Hi, Kim! Hi, Max!" I greeted the two footballers.

Max sighed dreamily. “Don't even think about it." Kim threatened.

‘What is wrong with these boys?’ I thought while walking to my locker. When I opened it my face dropped - in the locker was a picture of me and my friends and the word ‘bitch’ was written on it. With that I let out a terrified scream.
