The Dog Came Back! (Day 1-END)

You muttered to yourself again, "Creative thinking? Geometry?" You sighed. At least you were okay with geometry. Geometry, for you, was rather intuitive.

You continued thinking. "Orange vegetable... orange vegetable... wait... a carrot is an orange vegetable! So, wait... he means that orange carrot statue?!"

Detective W nodded. "Presumably so. Then, the law of the land... the law of Owlsburgh... oh. That means the city hall, then. The only place where the legislation gets passed through."

"Then the fight..." you finished for Detective W, "That's the... outdoors boxing ring?"

"Given all that we have, that seems like the most likely case," he agreed.

"Phew... finally. Those ambiguous hints are annoying! If I were to kidnap a dog and blackmail the owner, my clues would be ten times clearer!" you exclaimed.

"Don't let Mr. Milton catch you saying that!" Detective W laughed heartily. "Now, you have any idea on finding the center?"

"Well, since there are three points, they connect as a triangle, right? To find the center of a triangle... you find the centroid," you logically continued.

"And how do you find the centroid of a triangle?" Ha-Eun asked, interested. "I never did well in Geometry."

"I just have to bisect the angles and draw the bisecting line to the opposite side's midpoint! And that's for each of them!" you declared confidently. "It's the only thing I excelled in Geometry!"

Detective W clapped. "Congratulations. You found the method for finding the center. Now, draw the lines, and tell me where the final location is!"

You went straight to work. You took a photo of the Owlsburgh map, and connected the mentioned places with black lines. With careful measurement, you drew the three bisecting lines, and located the intersection point.

"It's... at a small park," you found out. "Valley Green Park! Just right at the center of Owlsburgh!"

"Let's get going, then. I will contact Mr. Milton real fast. We will get there before 16:00!"

--------------------

You guys all hid behind the trees in the park, as per Detective W's plan. The orange and red foliage on the ground complemented with the late Thanksgiving-themed slides and swings.

The blackmailer, who was wearing the same three-hole mask and the comically large sweater, held the struggling Oreo in his arms. He sat on a brown, wooden bench. Walking towards him was Mr. Milton, holding a suitcase full of cash.

"I can't believe Boss had the right idea..." you whispered. "Who knew this would be such a lucky hit?! For all I know, screw those clues!"

Detective W beamed. "I'm pleasantly surprised, too. Thank you, my friend, for doing all the work."

As Mr. Milton and the blackmailer were talking about the deal, Detective W signaled you, Ha-Eun, and Ha-joon to get closer to the blackmailer quietly.

"On the count of three..." Detective W whispered once they were exchanging the money. "3... 2... 1...!" All four of you ran. The leaves crunched audibly as you ran. As always, you are surprised with Detective W's speed.

'Isn't he still in recovery?!' you thought, visibly shocked.

"Eat this, you criminal!" you heard Detective W roar. He instantly got the sitting blackmailer in a tight rear naked choke hold. The blackmailer was kicking the bench and trying to bite Detective W's arm, but to no avail. "My friend, get his mask off!" he screamed.

"Yes, boss!" You quickly ran at the struggling blackmailer, and pulled his mask off. The man's face was tawny, with small, beady brown eyes. The man also had sharp jawlines.

"Da Pao! You were behind all of this!" Mr. Milton angrily shrieked. His fists were shaking. "You... you bastard!"

Detective W quickly let go of Da Pao. "You don't want to be here when a hulking figure gets mad!"

You ran far away, and saw Mr. Milton punched the living daylights out of Da Pao. "Sucks to be him..." you said gleefully.

Detective W quickly called the police, and Da Pao was arrested right in the park.

-----------------------

Mr. Milton was really ecstatic. "Look who's my cute little Oreo!" he said while rubbing his nose on Oreo's black and white fur. The dog barked in kind.

"I'm glad everything worked well, Mr. Milton," Detective W told him calmly. "You even got your one million dollars back. Now, about the fee..."

"Yes, certainly! You can take half of the million dollars! Take it! I will write a check for you! I appreciate that you took the time to help me!"

Ha-Eun, Ha-joon, and your jaw dropped in shock. Detective W still remained calm, however.

"Thank you, Detective W! And your lovely assistants, too! I will sure come to you whenever I need help!" Mr. Milton waved cheerfully, handed Detective W the check, and walked out of the office.

Once he was gone, Detective W broke into a huge grin, ran around and high-fived everyone. He cackled. "Five hundred thousand dollars, baby! Tonight's dinner is all on me! Where do you want to go?!"

All three of you instantly answered, and began arguing over it.

Detective W shrugged. "Another Friday, I guess," he contently murmured to himself.
