The Thing Wrong With The Interview (Day 1)

You, Ha-Eun, and Ha-joon were eating burgers and fries for lunch outside. You went through what Detective W had sent you.

As Detective W suggested, you went each of the video interviews again and inspected each one carefully. But, you were totally clueless about body language, so you focused on their statements instead.

You also went through the Owlsburgh city map carefully--in both 3D and street view. You shut your eyes, trying to imagine the viewpoints of the interviewees when they saw the bombing. "The dreadlocks man is correct," you realized. "There was nothing he could have seen... except for the smoke, probably..."

You then corroborated the balding man's statement. "He was indeed right... he could have seen the white car come by anytime... since the entire street is visible to him."

You finally checked the green-haired man's statement. You thought about being him in his bedroom, looking at the bombing incident. That's when you realized something didn't match up.

"If he was at the second floor... there's no way he could have seen the bombing incident! The three story buildings will instantly block the view!" you slowly discerned. "And wait... even if he could see the bombing, he still couldn't have seen the car! The highway fences completely covered the first story of the apartment! That means... seeing the street is impossible at all! There's no way for him to see the car!"

You remembered what Detective W had told you. "Wait... only people who were near and awake the apartment could have seen the car... but, to the rest of the public, the car is a secret! No one is supposed to know!" you muttered to yourself. Ha-joon and Ha-Eun looked really baffled. They just finished their lunch.

"What are you talking to W about?" Ha-Eun misunderstood you. "Is it something about the case?"

"Kind of," you gruffly replied. "Remember the three we interviewed today?"

"Yeah. they all had some problems with their legs." Ha-joon recalled clearly.

"That's not the main point. The green-haired one... I'm not sure why, but he lied to us. That is damn suspicious enough already, especially when the white car is supposed to be secret knowledge. For the people not immediately nearby, that is..."

You quickly texted Detective W about your deduction. He gave a thumbs up, and told you, Ha-joon, and Ha-Eun to get back to his office. There were still a lot of investigations that had to be done.

December 25th, 2018, 8:00 PM...

"Everyone!" Victoria ordered the nearby police through a walkie talkie. "Secure your places! Apartment buildings and famous buildings are our number one priorities!"

She was instantly drowned with the clamor of "Yes, Deputy Chief!" By then, she wanted to give every single police officer a hug. But, she kept her cool and continued to carry out the commands.

"If any suspicious person comes in, check them thoroughly!" she dictated. "Give them a good ol' security check!"

"Yes ma'am!"

Victoria was given supervision of the western part of Owlsburgh. The atmosphere in this part of town was... tense. Even though the government had issued a stay-at-home order for the citizens, they still came out in fear of the bombing. Victoria, who was fraught with stress and exhaustion, still continued with her duties by soothing everyone nearby.

'Will there even be a bombing incident today?' she worried, looking at the waning gibbous moon. Helicopters flew around western Owlsburgh, surveilling the area. 'Hope no other police have a bombing case on their hands....'

For each apartment building, four police officers were assigned. The amount doubled to eight if it was a famous building. Victoria feared the police force was spread too thin. Due to several nationwide incidents, the citizens now treated the police with fear. That led to a downsize in the police force.

"And they still expect us to protect and serve them as usual..." she tiredly exhaled. She checked herself with her phone. She could see several graying hair strands. A deeper sigh followed.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the police stationed on the ground, a masked man jumped to the roof of the famous apartment building in West Owlsburgh-The Ortega Penthouse. The top floor was completely vacant. He limped and slowly climbed down. He opened the glass door and walked inside.

"Complete fools..." he murmured. "Leaving the door open like this? Complete idiots..." He placed 2 rectangular bombs-one on the floor, and the other one near the glass panels. He went downstairs, pleasantly surprised there's no one there.

"Did the bomb threat scare them witless?" he mused. He threw one down the stairs, and attached one to the gas pipe. He quickly ventured to the second floor and threw the bomb there.

He quickly limped back upstairs, and called on his phone. "Pomodoro... I'm finished... come get me," he roughly uttered. "Quick..."

The black and red helicopter flew to the penthouse. A rope ladder was thrown, and the masked man eagerly climbed up. The masked man pressed the red button on his phone remote.

Pomodoro, a short, stocky man with a red suit, gravely uttered, "With this, you hit two birds with one stone, Signor Rob Bomba. You get revenge and save your family."

Even though Rob was wearing a mask, Pomodoro could tell Rob was grinning. Pomodoro flew far, far away.

Rob couldn't hold his breath in, and counted down in a rasping voice.

"Three... two... one... zero."
