The Funeral

The funeral was a somber event. It was raining when I woke up that morning. After a subdued breakfast with Alric, who had yet to say anything about his father, Enna ushered me into the bath, and then she pinned my hair up into a braided bun. The dress I wore was long sleeved and flared out. It was a inky black, with matching gloves and shoes. Enna fastened a black cloak around my shoulders, and then draped a long black veil over me to complete the look. Apparently it was custom for women in Central to wear them at funerals.

I went to the door to Alric's rooms to see him standing by the window as he waited for me. We had grown a bit closer in these past few months, and a part of me was happy that he was allowing me to try and comfort him. I went and stood next to him, taking his hand in mine. We stood there for a few moments, until some footmen came to collect us.
