Chapter Twelve:

Today was the first day that Adrian would begin teaching at Kiyose Higashi High School. He was quite nervous because he had never done work like this since he got out of university. He wondered if he could somehow use what he knew to get to the students that he would now have to teach. He stared at himself in the mirror, his jet-black hair was messy but not the messy that he wanted. He ruffled his hair and combed it out a bit before finally being satisfied. His deep blue eyes stared back at him as he stood there in the mirror. He gave himself a small smile as he was satisfied with the life he was going to be living now. He began to wonder if Tomas was satisfied with him choosing this path instead. He hoped so, since Tomas hated that he was an assassin.

Adrian sighed softly as he got dressed in a white button up shirt, black slacks, and a pair of black dress shoes. He was short despite his age, and this often-caused teasing from people. He hoped he wouldn’t have to deal with that with the students he would be teaching. He sighed softly and went to brush his teeth before heading to the kitchen and picked up the attendance book. He sighed slightly and tilted his head as he read over the names and ages of the students. Most of them were already adults pushing eighteen and nineteen years old.

They weren’t that much younger than him, and he figured maybe this would be great. Then he remembered that he couldn’t relate to these students, well most likely he wouldn’t. After all he had a dark past that alone gave him nightmares at night. One thing that he did understand was how older teachers always taught the same things. They never catered to each individual student expecting each student to learn the same way. They never took different approaches to teach something new. Adrian sat at his table and began to write down what today’s agenda would be. Since this class was a special case, and no teacher wanted to teach them, he had to teach all of the subjects besides gym.

“They would first make an outline for their autobiography paper. When they are done, they can write the rough draft… That may take them until lunch, if so, after lunch while I edit their rough drafts… they can read “How To Kill a Mockingbird” and write a thesis for it. That would take them to their math part of the day, which I can print off worksheets with math problems on it. Since they are all seniors, it should be hard enough to make them think but not overly impossible.” Adrian mumbled to himself as he grabbed an apple from the fruit stand on his table and bit into it.

“After that, maybe I will have them finish their autobiographies, so I can take them home and learn about them. If everyone finishes before the bell rings, I will print off science worksheets. Since they don’t have a typical schedule, I can just teach whatever I deem fit. That would take them to the end of the day.” Adrian said, standing up with a smile. He shoved his notebook and attendance book into his bag, before grabbing his lunch. He looked at the time and saw that it was time for him to go. He got into his car and drove to school since he left later than he wanted to, but still early enough.

When he arrived at the school, he walked through the crowded hallways. Some people glanced at him as he made his way through the hallways. They were probably wondering what class he would be teaching. He heard whispers but this didn’t bother him any as he was used to whispers and the stares. He walked into the classroom that he would be teaching in, and the sight made him flinch.

“There is no way I can work like this, let alone the students. I might as well clean up before the class starts.” Adrian mumbled to himself as he set his stuff on the desk and went to the janitor’s office. He grabbed the things he needed before heading back to his classroom. The classroom was so filthy, and he couldn’t believe the principal would let a classroom get like this. He began to sweep the floor, throwing away all the garbage. The smell was so bad… that it made him want to vomit. Once he was done sweeping and picking up the trash, he began to mop the floor so it could dry before students started to file in.

He began to hum to himself as he cleaned the floor, once the floor was shining, he began to rearrange the desks. He should have checked the classroom when he met with the principal. Now he regrets everything especially since he was starting to work up a sweat and he was wearing a white button up. So much for making a good impression. He wondered if Ido was still around because if so, he would have Ido bring him another shirt. He then remembered that Ido said they were leaving the night before. Adrian sighed as he looked at the time, it was time for the students to come in. Good thing that he had planned today was semi easy, though he may have to change a few things around so he could focus on cleaning.

He took the broom and mop back to the janitor’s closet and made his way back to the class. When he arrived, he saw two students already in the classroom, and he decided to listen in on their conversations.

“Wow, it’s starting to look like a classroom. Minus the windows, spray painting on the walls and chalkboard.” A boy with blonde hair said and began to take a seat in one of the desks. That’s when he saw Adrian standing in the doorway and Adrian flashed him a small smile.

“It’s disgusting, this will make it better.” A girl with snow-white hair said and was about to pour her drink on the floor but Adrian grabbed her hand before she could spill the drink on the floor

“What the hell?” She turned to meet Adrian’s deep blue eyes, and Adrian looked at her with unwavering eyes.

“I would appreciate it if you didn’t dirty the floor. After all, I just cleaned it and would prefer it to stay that way.”

“Well, I would appreciate it if you didn’t touch me…”

“Layla, calm down.” The boy earlier said, but Layla went to throw the slushy in Adrian’s face. Adrian was quick on his feet and kicked Layla’s legs underneath her causing her to fall to the floor. The slushy spilled all over her instead of him or the floor.

“I am not your typical teacher. You can’t run me off as easily as you did them, nor can you threaten me and expect me to take it.” Adrian said before going to get Layla another uniform and came back. He handed it to her, and Layla was confused as she stared at him.

“What is this for?”

“Well, you are covered in that slushy you had, I doubt you would want to walk around school sticky and in wet clothes.” Adrian said before looking at the clock. Layla got up from the floor and went to change. He had fifteen minutes before classes started so he decided to clean off his desk so he could properly set his desk up.

“Is this our new teacher? He is gorgeous, maybe on the short side~”

“I am not short; I am a fun size. Watch your mouth.” Adrian snapped slightly as he shot the other guy a glare. The guy held his hands up in a defensive manner, since he wasn’t expecting Adrian to snap.

“It wasn’t meant as an insult… it’s cute.” He said and Adrian continued to glare at the boy, who blinked slightly with a grin.

“He reminds me of Nori…” The blonde boy from earlier said.

“He is cuter than Nori though…”

“Akira, please don’t run him off…”

“Relax Jiro, he said he is here to stay. Right, teach?”

“I am here to stay but that flirting attitude will land you in detention quickly.” Adrian said, wiping his desk clean and tossing the rag into the bucket. He then took out his attendance book and agenda for the day. He wrote on the chalkboard around the spray paint so people would know what his name was.
