Retreat

We retreated to the tower, well we tried anyways. He seemed to have given up on his subtility. His dolls emerged from the sewers and they came with a vengeance.

People retreated into the nearest buildings but we moved towards the tower at a steady pace. We might not be able to kill those dolls but we could incapacitate them.

They used real legs to move, and what makes real legs move? Muscles. How do you stop them from moving, you cut their muscles making it impossible to use them.

After a while, we left behind a literal trail of puppets yet we weren't able to make it. Too many puppets and too great a distance. We retreated into the nearest building.

"How did you get here? Those puppets don't die and yet you were able to move, only having to retreat because of fatigue." The woman asking this was muscled and lean. She was human.

The building we retreated into was filled to the brim, we had to squeeze through the hallway to make it to the kitchen.

"Do you have any food for the girl?" I wasn't that concerned, if necessary I could still fly to the tower taking the girl who might have valuable information with me. I was just hesitant to leave Thea behind since she couldn't use her powers. If she would, it would electrocute everything in a certain vicinity since we were still underwater. Inside buildings it wasn't a problem but on the streets, she would be but effective and unusable.

"Yes. Hello little girl, my name is Kirby, Kirby Pan, would you like some meat pie?" The smell that entered my nose was delicious.

"You seem hungry too, take some pie as well, you'll need it if you're gonna move outside again." I wasn't going to turn it down and I was hungry.

Kirby set down 3 plates, all with food.

"Bolt, I think I'm going to fly to the tower, and I'll take the girl with me for information." Thea looked up but just shrugged.

"Good plan, I'll stay here and … help Kirby protect these people." I knew why she really didn't have a problem.

"You want to stay for the pie don't you?" Kirby beat me to the punch. "Sorry, you're not getting more than one piece, I am hosting all these people and they all need food. I will take you up on your offer of protection though." Thea seemed sad but accepted it because Kirby was right.

Once me and the little girl, I learned she was called Kar'ionda, Kari for short, had finished our pie, we moved to the highest floor and jumped out of the window.

It was weird not to feel any wind, especially since the whole city used magic that made humans unable to feel the water's wetness and be able to breathe in it.

My wing's sprouted from my back and we moved, we got to the tower in a matter of minutes. When we arrived at the tower a clerk approached me.

"Are you the hero with the ID: 666 666 666?" My bracelet responded for me. 'Affirmative.' My ID was … well, if you don't know the meaning of the number 666, look it up.

"I have a call for you sir." He swiped a card against my bracelet and a voice came through. "HELLO? CAN YOU HEAR ME?" The voice was thunderous, almost like standing next to something being hit by a lightning bolt. "Dude, stop yelling, yes I can hear you."

"Oh, sorry 'bout that. I don't know how to work these technologie thingies, I just hit things." For your information, we had advanced communication tech for about 200 years.

"We can't reach you, something about the pad not having power?"

"Wait, what do you want me to do then, I am probably powerful enough to destroy this city but I don't think The Hero's Order will like that."

"WHAT, YOU ONE OF THOSE OP ONES." Oh god, my head will explode. "DUDE, NO YELLING."

"Oh, right. Well, since I don't think the order will like you destroying an entire city to take him down, I suggest you find a veteran. I would recommend finding Kirby Pan, she's an old associate of mine."

I was dumbfounded. "Does she make a great pie?"

"Oh god, yes, that meat pie. You should try her tea when you can, best I ever had. Because of your question, I take it you have tasted that heavenly food?"

"Yes." I had a long discussion with Kari, she wanted to go back, I wanted her to stay, I lost because she started crying. She miraculously stopped crying immediately after winning the argument.

I took off with Kari and we returned to Thea and Kirby. Once we arrived I explained.

"The teleport is out of power so we're not getting reinforcements. The guy who explained told me to go find a veteran called Kirby Pan." I looked at where Kirby had been standing but she was already gone.

"Well I guess we're on our own then." And so we prepared to get out there and kill or incapacitate The Dollmaker.
