Be careful

The next day Megan woke up to a great morning. She ate breakfast and went to do some errands. She sweep the back yard and pluck some weeds. Then went to the market to buy some ingredients as her mother requested.

The day ended quick so Megan went upstairs to get ready to go to another ball. She wore the same dress and jewelries that was given to her. Megan felt a weird sensation when she remembered it was Victon who got this dress for her. She felt her heart warmed up thinking about the man courting her. Going to school she have had admires before, some were brave and confessed only for her to reject them. Megan had thought she considered Victon to be like a brother, but after a couple of years she came to a realization that it was more than admiration and friendship. Had Victon not confessed to her at the ball, she would have acted cowardly and never have the heart to confess.

A knock on her bedroom door got Megan out of her thoughts. She opened the door to see a Theodore with a worried face. "What's wrong Theo?"

"I'm saying that you shouldn't go, but I hope you've prepared yourself Meg" Theodore said with a serious face.

"What do you mean?" Megan furrowed her brows.

"This is not like the last ball where there are commoners everywhere Meg. This is a private celebration among the nobles... when Victon introduces you as his girlfriend, the nobles will judge you, criticize you, and target you in anyway." Theodore said as his glaze darken.

"I know Theodore, I'm not stupid to not realize we're of different classes. I'm starting to like Victon and I feel like I can trust him... I feel safe around him and I trust him. Thank you brother, but I'm willing to go through these phases if it means to be with him."

Theodore looked at his sister whose eyes shone with determination. He sighed and said, "alright, if anything happens please let me know. And I mean anything okay?"

"Thank you Theo" Megan laughed as she hugged her big brother.

**********

Megan finished dressing up and came downstairs to see a carriage stopped in front of the bakery as if on cue. She waved her family good bye as she went out of the bakery.

It was night time, but she still couldn't miss his handsome face. Megan saw Victon dressed up in a fitted suit and was smiling at her gently. He bent his back and offered his hand, "My lady looks wonderful tonight."

"My gentleman looks so handsome tonight" Megan laughed as she put her hand onto his. Victon helped her get on the carriage before stepping into it on his own. Then they departed to the castle.

Victon saw how she fidgets and asked, "are you nervous?"

"Truthfully yes, I'm scared that you criticize you for bringing a baker's girl into the castle" Megan murmured with a sweat dripping down her forehead.

Victon took a handkerchief from his pocket and dabbed it on her head. "They would not get out of the castle unscathed if they spell foul words to you Megan. I would teach them a lesson now that I'm a Duke." Megan was about to reply, but stopped as she saw something familiar.

"Is that my handkerchief? You still have that?" Megan said unbelievably.

"Of course, I do. You personally gave it to me, this is my treasure that I always keep next to my heart" Victon said softly as he tucked her hair behind her ears. Megan blushed and said, "I have kept your hair pin as well."

"Hm, it rubies looks beautiful on you."

"Will you stop that?" Megan hid her face behind her hands out of nervousness because Victon is so flirty.

"What? I said the truth. You are the most beautiful" Victon looked at her endearingly. She looked back into his blue eyes, letting them bewitch her.

"Well I say you're better than the admires I had at school" Megan admitted.

"Who are they?" Victon furrowed his brows.

Megan laughed at his reaction and said, "don't worry I only have eyes for you."

The two converse until they reach the humongous castle. Victon came out of the carriage first then offered his hand to his partner. He offered his arm for her to grab onto, and she accepted. The duo walked through the hallways and into the ball room where the celebration was held.
