Chapter 20 - Mai Cheat!

Mai stopped on her track seeing that she was getting surrounded. She wondered why they were doing this. Even until now, she didn't think that she had done anything wrong. All she does was punishing the wrongdoer. Well, that's not the true reason she did it though.

Her victim being villains were only the justification that enables Mai to target them for her other reasons. There are two. The second reason as to why she does that is to get incident points, not from selling the hands, but from the incident she created.

As for the main and foremost reason, it was because of the system. For some reason, it keeps pleaded Mai to sell more human bodies. Of course, Mai refused to do it. At that time, she was confused as to why the system became like that. But after a week of failing, the system stopped and then acted like normal, well, at least trying to.

Mai is quite a preceptive person. Even though it's only for a week, as a Touhou fan, she already had a hunch about why the system became like that. Maybe the system is a...

The system always goes silent when she inquired about it. Even when Mai did make the guess, right or wrong was still uncertain. But she didn't force it to talk though. She only hopes that in the future, it will inform her about it.

But, if Mai's suspicion was true, then that meant the system had been 'starving' for years and it didn't reveal anything to her at all. It also makes sense that the system craved for more after a little bit of tasting human. She was sad when knowing about it.

Mai felt conflicted about whether to feed the system or not. The only reason she attacks that thug in the alley was that he reminds her of her disgusting brother from her past life. As for normal villains or criminals, she couldn't care less about what they do.

Even if they killed a random person right in front of her, she would let them be if they also ignored her. However, if they messed around with her or someone she knows and fond of, she would then pay them back for their action.

However, after a bit of hesitation, Mai eventually decided to do it. Still, knowing that the system has been surviving for more than 2 years just fine without 'food', she only does the hunting twice a year.

Also, why villain? Because Mai felt that it was a more reasonable option than assaulting a hero or a normal civilian. It would leave a bad taste in her mouth if she were to do that.

But, she wouldn't bother those villains who were just chilling in their base. She feels that doing such a thing was just plain rude, so she only strikes the one who's in action.

Mai does wanna make every effort to contain her peaceful and normal life, but she wouldn't forget to repay the one who has been helping her, especially the system. It is the only way, so she doesn't forget who she really is.

Because for Mai, she only acquired these inhuman feats by cheating her way with the system. She doesn't want to admit doing this with her effort because she cheated. She won't be proud of what she can do because she cheated. She was a cheater.

Because she knows all of her abilities didn't originate from her. It was just a product of her system. All she does is only do some simple daily mission. So she will make a conscious effort not to take pride in it.

'I, Mai Waifu, have a cheat!'

That's what she chanted to herself as not to forget about who assisted her through the thick and thin of life.

But last night, the system suddenly decided to confess to her. No, it's not about love. It's about itself. The system even reveals to her its own stats. Mai was dumbfounded(Inside) at that time. She didn't know that the appraisal can work on the system.

Regardless, Mai knew that she shouldn't get any flashbacks in her head right now, because she, a small little girl, was still being encircled by many tall and mature people.

"I think there might be a misunderstanding, I'm here just to-" Mai tried to reasoned with them but her word got cut out.

"Killing children, right?" One of the heroes surrounding her said.

"No, I'm just here to-" Her word got cut off once more.

"Slice their hands off? I knew it! You're evil!" This time, it's another person, but just as stupid as the first one. She is quite pissed of on the inside.

"Please... listen to me first, I'm here to-" It happened again for the third time.

"Be a hero!" But this time, it was different. All the people around her, including Mai, took a look at the one who said that. It was a stout man who appears to be a giant mouse standing on two feet and wearing fancy human attire.

"Principal!" Said everyone that encircled her. Mai forgets his name but knows his common stuff. Well, it's already around ten years since she regained her memory from her past life. It's natural that she didn't remember all the things about a supporting character. Especially since MHA wasn't really her favorite anime.

"The famous Vigilant Yaksha herself has come to this place, where there are no villains. What else could she possibly after? Especially when she's in an ideal age to join a highschool..." The talking mouse said sagely. "Am I right?" And then he asked Mai.

"..." Mai was contemplating whether, to tell the truth, or not.

"..." The atmosphere somehow became tense.

"...Not really..." Mai then answered with a flat tone.

"Huh?" The giant mouse was baffled. "Then what is- wait, nevermind. It's more fun for me to guess your motive. But let me ask this first, it wasn't to do a villainous thing, right?" He continued.

"I'm... here just to pay back someone, by doing the exam..." Mai said honestly, even though it's impossible to know that because she's wearing a mask and using her usual flat tone voice.

"Is that so..." He stopped for a second and gazed at the surrounding heroes. "You guys go back to your post, I'll take care of her!"

"B-But principal!" One of the heroes said worriedly.

"I said go! Or, do you want me to lower your salary?" The mouse-like person said while grinning savagely. It was then that all the heroes ran comically into the school gates. The kids around were stunned when they look at this spectacle.

The giant mouse then turns his gaze back at her. "By the way, my name is Nezu and I'm the principal of this school. I also need to go back to doing my job. Good luck with the test." He said while he walked away.

'Oh yeah, his name is Nezu,' Mai thought to herself.

Just as the principal left her alone, Mai took notice of a meek green-haired boy. It looks like he was talking to her payback 'target'. Her target then pushes away the meek boy, making him fall to the ground as she walks closer to them.

'I found you'

Izuku Midoriya was just cheerfully walking toward U.A. high school to take the entrance exam, when he saw his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugo. Bakugo also noticed him, their eyes were met.

"H-How are you Kacchan...?" Izuku greeted meekly.

"Deku! Why are you here?!" Bakugo yelled angrily while he walks closer to the one who he called Deku.

"I-I want to be a hero so I-" He didn't even finish what he had to say before he got pushed to the ground by his supposed childhood friend.

"What?! You want to be a hero?! You're quirkless! Also, don't ever appear in front of me again. If you do, I'll kill you and drag your body into the woods just to be eaten by dogs." After Bakugo said that, he then left.

Izuku just looks down toward the ground, clenches his fist while holding his tears. He wanted to be a hero, and now that he got the power from All Might, the best hero himself, there's no way he'll give up on his dream.

"Hey..." It was then that Izuku heard an apathetic voice right in front. He then looked up and saw that someone had extended his hand to him.

He quickly took the hand as to not make the situation awkward for the one who sought to help him and then the person easily pulled him back up like it was nothing. He wanted to thank the man but then realized that it was a girl. Not only that, but it's also the famous vigilante, Vigilant Yaksha.

"Awawaawwawawa!"

"Stop stuttering. You also a candidate for this U.A. Exam, right? Then let us go together..." The girl, Mai, said to him.

"O-Ok!" Izuku is too nervous right then. He felt that he didn't have time to think, so he just answered her with that.

Izuku is a fan of All Might, and he didn't agree with Mai's doing as a vigilante. But, he still respects her because many people were saved by her while he himself wasn't even a hero yet, even though they're the same age.

Yup, Izuku is the one who revealed her real information to the internet. At that time, he's still a kid. And as a toxic All Might fan, he didn't care what he did to the Vigilant Yaksha.

Now, he was ashamed. When he wanted to delete his post, it was already too late. Many people have already seen it and even compared it to Vigilant Yaksha's known appearance. And they quite matched up.

As for Mai, she didn't really care about Izuku. She only focused her gaze behind her mask toward the spiky blond-haired brat. It was Katsuki Bakugo, her most loathed character in the entire MHA series. If she can grin, her expression would look scary right now.

It was a long time ago that Mai planned to raze his life. But she chose to do it now because this was the most important thing for him. He must payback for making her punch a wall in her past life. Although, the main reason she would do this was that she thinks it will be a fun task.

Also, talking about payback. Mai just remembered that she hasn't visited Jimmy even once, since she fleed from elementary school. But, she didn't want to acknowledge that as her fault. It was all because of the interesting new manga and novels in this world. Though, there's no Touhou here. That's a bit sad.

Right as they walked together. Behind them is a brown-haired girl that was just merrily stepping toward the school gate. She didn't even realize that her marvelous encounter with Izuku had just got taken off right in front of her eyes.
