Episode 9: MEMORY LOSS

When Gabby vanished from the spirit realm every other reaper taking a rest looked at Red for a good one minute. They looked at awe, and rather intrigued.

RED: What? Never seen a beautiful red hair before? I mean...a red haired mortal before? Anyways, go back to what you're doing... *softer voice* This is...quite embrarrasing.

Red touched his cheeks and wondered just what was he thinking, adding the adjective he felt unnecessary to describe his annoying acquaintance.

RED: Damn it. That mortal...look at what you made me do.

HUMILITY: Just who did you bring here? *humility spoke in a very serious tone, it was scary, even if he says everything with a smile*

RED: I'm sorry, I know it's not really usual to do so, but I needed to teach her a lesson!

HUMILITY: You just made me have another job for today, silly reaper... Go back to work and next time you see her, just ignore her.

RED: I tried but...

HUMILITY: Gosh, Red. You're still young despite being so old.

RED: Huh?

HUMILITY: Just do what I said. And I'm not mad. Just amused at how slow you've matured. Very well, good bye.

...

GABBY: Damn it. I'll get that jerk another time. Besides, it's just a simple wish. It's not like many were like me, right? And since I can touch him, maybe I could cook something for him to eat. Or knit a sweater... Wait, do they eat?

She continued walking in a steady pace, hands in her pockets. When she looked at the sky and her surroundings, that's when she realized that it had been beginning to darken. Perhaps, time in the spirit realm is vastly different from hers. She sighed, knowing that she have missed an opportunity to watch a new anime she was currently fond of.

She reached for the phone in her left pocket, and checked the time. 5: 38 pm. Right.

That's when she felt a chilling sensation behind her. As if someone is watching closely. She swear it was familiar. She felt fear. Like the very first time she realized the difference between humans and ghosts. Since young, she have been avoiding the empty streets and dark corners, fearful she might see something lurking.

She gulped. She need to walk on. It was so different from what she have felt when she saw Red. It was far from curiosity. She was truly scared to find out who those steps behind her belong to. It was quiet, gentle, yet menacing to keep hearing.

She swear it brought back a lot of memories. And she might have seen a lot of lost souls in her lifetime that she had distinguished the difference between them by the sound of their footsteps. This steps, were light, perfect, and accompanied by a particular strong scent of lavender. She couldn't quite explain the rest, but she knew they were ghostly.

She felt her heart pounding quickly. To the point that it didn't matter anymore. She needs to know and confirm what was behind her.

HUMILITY: So, you finally want to know who I am?

She flinched a little. And was now even more afraid. Who was this man? Is he good or evil? A ghost, monster, or a stronger being?

GABBY: Who are you? And what do you want from me?

HUMILITY: What do you know about Red? How much do you know about us? And why can you see us?

GABBY: I know little. And you still haven't answered my questions!

HUMILITY: I am a reaper also...and being concerned for the safety of both our kinds, perhaps it's better if you don't remember Red. And anything else that happened in the realm of spirits.

He was then reaching for her forehead, she wanted to move away from him. But she was frozen by an unimaginable force. It was so strong. She couldn't move and breathe. Everything was still. Everything around her was. Except for him.

HUMILITY: I'm so sorry...but I think this is what's better. I don't want you to hate me. Please understand.

His voice suddenly sounded less threatening. She felt weirdly at ease...in peace...calm.

His fingers touched her forehead, and after feeling a cold sensation, Gabby slowly loses consciousness.

HUMILITY: Wait, gotcha!

Humility then uses his supreme power to navigate her home and transfer her body there. Without the need of walking.

The moment Gabby awoke. Her memories have been altered and she remember nothing about Red, nor the man who smells like lavender. But oddly enough, the scent of the two, still lingers in the tips of her nose.
