Chapter Twenty two

Krystal ,wake up ....wake up ,Krystal .Laura called as she sprinkled water onto her face .

'Krystal turns her head in her bed and Laura sits beside her rubbing her hands with olive oil .Thank God you are back Krystal ,she said and hugged her ' .

What happened to me ?,she asked Laura when she offered her water to drink and helped her sit on her bed .

Don't you remember ,Laura asked her . Alright then ,this is how it all happened .

******LAURA 'S POV *****

*My queen .....my queen .The guards secured the area and made sure no one left the chamber * .

I was only three steps away from you to bring your shackles when you slipped off and fell from the stairs to the ground .

I quickly made my way down the stairs but I slipped and held on tightly so that I won't fall to the ground .I took off my slippers and got down the stairs slowly .

It was then that ,I along with the other handmaidens began to chant ' my queen ....my queen 'severally but you were lying down unconscious while blood oozed from your head .

The stairs had starch all over and that's why you fell .I asked the handmaidens to clean the stairs as I ordered the guards to help me bring you back to your chamber .

While I was with you in your chamber ,you were not getting any better and the auspicious time for your ceremony was passing by .I knew the punishment associated with this if you were absent so I called the handmaidens and four guards to carve a harp for you along with your flute .*

But Laura ,how did I come back to life after I fell when you just said that ,my condition was critical . From your statement ,I know that you didn't call the palace herbalist to your aid because you wanted to hide the incidence which had happened .

Hum herbs Myel ....hum herbs .I mixed the hum herbs with the blood of a slanderer ,chanted some words and poured it through your nostrils to bring you back to life .

Hum herbs ? ,but what are those ? ,asked Myel .

They are special leaves used to take control over the body and mind of a person but when you mix it with a slanderer's blood ,it is capable of bringing you back to life .

Not many people know about the existence of these herbs .It is a special herb cultivated only in the night along a stream on the outskirts of the woods which lie three miles from the Ulka kingdom.

Who is the slanderer we are talking about here ?

***LAURA CONTINUES HER POV ***

When you woke up two hours later ,...

*****KRYSTAL POV *****

I took the harp and the flute along and quickly ran to the ceremonial hall on my wounded feet .

When I got there ,I stopped, as queen Marga mounted the stage and about to start the ceremony .

I then dimly lit all the lights available behind the ceremonial hall and made my way to mount the stage while everyone 's diverted attention was on the dimly lit light .

To gain everyone "s attention ,I went on my knees and held the feet of the king as I shed crocodile tears and recited a poem to him .

***LAURA'S POV ***

That was when I lightened the whole place up when everyone 's attention was on your poem .

But how did you come about with that poem because we had planned nothing since you rushed of with the harp and flute when you got up .

*****KRYSTAL'S POV *****

The poem was something I wrote down the first time I was told that ,I'm getting married .Out of the sadness and sorrow ,I put it down in my diary . What I recited in front of everyone wasn't the end .My poem didn't have anything to do with praising the king but I cut it short and added praises to it in his name .

I recited it and began to play the harp .The king loves to hear the sound of the harp and I noticed this the first time I set my eyes on him .He was humming on the rhythms that the harp produced while we were still in Swaji .

But how did you know that ,I play the harp ?

***LAURA'S POV ***

While looking for your olive oil within your things ,your diary fell down and the first page had the drawing of the harp while it lied downed opened .I took it and saw all the dimensions and musical keys you had made out of the drawing of the harp .In the same way ,I had them carve yours for you because I wanted a reason to cover up for your absence and lateness .I wanted them to explore the different talents in you .

*****KRYSTAL'S POV *****

The harp was an instrument that my sister and I learnt how to play when we were kids .Our mum taught us .It was her favourite instrument .She would play the harp all day long and sing her melodious melody with her sweet voice .I still remember the joy on her face each time she sang and played the harp,she said while her voice expelled the pain she was feeling out .

Where is my sister now ? ,she added .

When I began to bleed on my feet ,I couldn't think of anything else .I got everyone's attention in the hall but my heart will only respond when the song reaches out to the one whom it truly belongs .

The last thing I remember is that ,I retorted against the king and he raised his sword at my neck, then why am I still alive then, Laura ? did he suddenly feel compassion for me ?*

No ,Laura answered .Yes ,you retorted against the king yesterday when you fell at his feet on your injured feet but it WAS ONLY IN YOUR IMAGINATIONS NOT YOUR ACTIONS .
