Seat Mate

My first day in SMH turns out to be horrible. I passed out and being treated at the school clinic and after that, I've been sent home to take a rest.

And now that it's my second day, what's going to happen again? I wasn't able to see that good for nothing guy I met yesterday again coz according to the guard, he's been sent straight to the hospital coz he's still unconscious.

I think his condition is worst than mine. I don't know what really happened to him. The last time I remember, he panicked when he saw me bleeding and that's it. I saw him lying on the floor already.

I almost thought that he's going to be my knight and shinning armor whose gonna save me. I thought he's gonna carry me from the ground and up to the clinic. Helped me cleanse my wound and put on some bandage.

But to my disappointment, he passed out first and I don't know why. Is he afraid of blood just like me? I don't know. I don't have any idea. He's a total stranger. And I think I don't need to bother myself coz I'm not going to see him anymore, right?

"Cyleen! You're early today."

It's Lexy, my best friend. We're neighbors too. We grow up together. And she's like a real sister I never had.

"Yeah. I've been traumatized by being late yesterday." I said.

"How's your knees?" She asked.

"They're healing already. What are the activities yesterday?"

"Nothing much. Our adviser just made our sitting arrangements, so we're not seatmates."

She said. Yeah, I know that. I'm in letter J for Jaranilla and she's letter Z. As in Zamora.

"Where's my seat then?"

I asked.

"Over there."

Lexy said and pointed the chair at the third row, right in the middle.

"Okay. Thanks. Do you know whose my seatmate then?"

I asked.

"Nope. Just like you, he's also excuse. Something came up, that's what our teachers said."

"Oh, okay. I just hope she's smart."

I said and giggled without noticing that she said HE.

"I think he is. Almost all our teachers talk about him. But they didn't mentioned his name."

"He!? So, a guy, huh? You think he's cute?"

"I don't have any idea. Maybe he's hot. Or maybe he's not."

Lexy said.

Few minutes later, our classmates started to arrived. Almost half of them knows me coz we're classmates in elementary. But some of them wasn't coz they studied in different public schools.

A few minutes before our math teacher arrived, the guy from yesterday entered our classroom. He's not alone. He's with the other guy which is not familiar too.

The moment he entered the room, our eyes met. I felt nervous all of a sudden. What is he doing here? Don't tell me we're classmates? For real? I thought he's in senior year already because of his height. He towered over me yesterday.

I saw him whispered on the guy walking beside him. As if he's asking for something. Then the other guy he's talking to pointed on my direction.

What? Why is that guy pointing on me? Do I know him? I rolled my eyes and act like I'm getting something inside my back pack. I didn't bother to looked at his direction again.

I just felt frozen when someone seated on the vacant chair beside me. And that someone? Who else? That guy I've met at the main gate yesterday! What's his name again? Jorlan? Or Jordan? I don't even know if it's his name or surname.

I don't know this guy personally but why I'm so nervous knowing that he's my seatmate!? My heart is beating so damn fast and I feel like I'm sweating real hard even the ceiling fan was keep on circulating around us.

"Are you sure you're comfortable there, Mr. Jordan—I mean, Cylec?"

That guy he's with a while ago said.

"Yeah. I'm fine being here. You better go to your seat."

Why does his voice sounds so cold? And yet I felt so warm while listening to his voice? His name is Cylec, huh? Cylec Jordan. What a name. It suits him though.

"You're the girl from yesterday."

He said out of nowhere. So, he remembered me!

"Yeah. Who would ever think that you're going to be my classmate." I said.

"And worst, we're seatmates."

He said while shaking his head.

"How are you? You passed out, right?" I asked.

"Asked that to yourself. You passed out too." He chuckled.

"I'm not." I denied.

"You are." He said.

"I said I'm not!" I repeated.

"I said you are!"

He insisted. I rolled my eyes. He's unbelievable!

"Jordan, Jaranilla. What's going on?"

Our math teacher asked.

"Nothing, Mrs. Sarzona."

We said in unison. Our lesson in math started and ended with a short quiz. I'm sweating bullets coz I don't know how to solve the five problems given to us.

I looked at Cylec whose busy answering the problems given. I elbowed him.

"Are you done?"

I whispered just enough for him to hear.

"Not yet. Why?"

He whispered back.

"Teached me how to solve this. I'm stupid when it comes to math."

I whispered again.

"Just in math?" He said sarcastically.

"Even in science! Satisfied?" I glared at him.

"Give me your paper." He said again .

We exchanged our papers. While he's answering, I acted like I'm busy reviewing his answer. I think he's really smart. I just hope that his answer was right.

When he's done, he got his paper and walked towards our teacher. He passed our papers right away and go back to his seat. And when the scores revealed, for the first time in history of my studies, I've got a perfect scores in math!

"Psst. Let's go to the food court. My treat."

I said to Cylec during recess time. There's a food court outside our campus. I really enjoyed eating queck- queck, fish ball and squid ball there. Since I only have 30 pesos left in my pocket, I think I can afford one order of street foods for him.

"Food court?" He said, looked so clueless.

"Yeah. Food court. Street foods. I'm gonna treat you since you helped me out on our quiz. Jeez. You're smart, huh?"

I said. He looked at me like I said something ridiculous.

"Cylec, let's eat."

It's the same guy he's together with a while ago. He is also our classmates. Alonzo Marcus is his name if I'm not mistaken.

"You should join us Alonzo. She said she's gonna treat me at the food court."

Cylec said while smirking. Tss. I don't have enough money for both of them! Should I walk from here up to our house later, then? I smiled awkwardly and nodded.

"Yeah. You should join us."

I said while smiling but deep inside, I feel like I wanna burst out in tears. I think I'm gonna walk barefoot later..
