Chapter 25

Morning soon arrives as Lucas and I get out of bed, immediately getting ready for the day. The sooner we are both ready, the sooner me and him can leave this horrible city. Looking to the left of the room I see both of our suitcases, we didn't pack much, except for all of the necessities.

I get taken out of my thoughts by some knocks on the bedroom door. The door slowly opens to reveal Lucas's parents, it was quite unusual for them to be up at this time, they maybe got up to see us go at least.

"Oh I see you guys are up already, Lucas your father and I have decided to leave with you guys, for better safety of course" I was shocked, i wasn't expecting the two of them to wanna get involved with anything that had to do with me.

Lucas and I nod as we take both of our bags to the front door, seeing some other bags as well, I'm guessing they had made their decision last night and have already packed for the trip.

Lucas could see my distraught expression as he put a hand on my shoulder, " I can't believe this is happening, I wasn't expecting the world would hate me." I calmly said to him, Lucas rubs small circles on my back as he speaks up as well.

"I know it may seem a lot for you, but Maya this is not your fault, it's human instinct. Humans are afraid of change or things that are remotely different from them." I knew he was right, but it still hurt me to think about it.

Lucas's parents came into the room and the group of us headed out to the car. I took one more glance at the house, shedding one last tear.

No I have to be brave, if I don't show that I have confidence, Then no one will.

"Hey, not to be so sudden or anything, but a good place for us to settle out would be the woods, a place where next to no humans would want to go. It's the safest option that we have." I suggest as we get onto the road.

Everyone agrees with my idea as they don't mind doing that if it means to keep me safe.

Time passes as we've been on the road for a little while now, close to exiting the city. I start to feel sudden pains in my stomach. No. Everywhere.

I first pass it off as some sort of cramps for being in the car for a while, so I lay down as my head is on Lucas's lap. The pains never went away though.

I've never heard of this happening to anyone, so it had to do with my animal, but what could it be?

I ask Lucas for his Half-Animal book, he hands it to me, questioning why I needed it. I flipped through the pages until I got to a certain one, Bonds.

It's said that an animal would set a bond with another animal so they may be together again one day, but if the animals are separated for too long, then the bond begins to tear and the animal will start to feel pains.

So this is what I was feeling, but what animal would set a bond on me, I haven't met any animals except for that one. There were a couple of signs that it was my father but I wasn't sure.

I tell the group about the pain I'm having as they stop at the nearest gas station to get some food. Lucas decided to stay behind to try and soothe pain, but it wasn't helping.

Maybe the animal she had met in the forest was her father, and maybe he was the one who made the bond with her. He did say that he would see me one day, maybe this is what he had meant about that.

The pains were getting worse by the minute, and I could feel my body going weak. This wasn't a good sign, I'm the strongest out of the group of us and yet this bond is making me the weakest.

I soon get an idea to let out an animal cry, maybe I can call my father over here to get rid of the pain I am currently experiencing. After letting out my animal cry, I get a response. It was from a male voice so it had to be him.

Lucas's parents walk out of the gas station, getting back into the car with the food they had just bought. We are all soon interrupted by the sound of gunshots.

Oh my god, They found us!

The pain starts to get worse as coughs start to emerge from my throat. I readjust myself on Lucas's lap so that I could try and reduce the pain that I was feeling.

I didn't know a bond between animals could happen so fast, maybe he had made it a long time ago and it didn't take effect until now, I mean it kind of made the most sense right now.

I looked up to see Lucas's concerned face, I could tell that he really wanted to help me, I always found that so sweet about him. Ever since we had first become friends, he would always try to help me.

We continue down the road as we try to avoid all of the gunshots that had been firing at us, I soon hear a distinct screech come from the forest next to us.

It's him! Junsuina Chi said to me, I couldn't believe it. I finally got to meet my real father.

The group of us look out the window to see him. A beautiful orange wolf, flapping his wings. This was ōkami, the king of all half animals.

Ōkami let's out another screech as fire comes out of his mouth, blinding the people that was shooting at us. He then slams himself onto the ground as it breaks, creating a gap so they couldn't follow us.

I was surprised, that's one way to prove that he's the strongest half animal out there. Ōkami gets back up as he flies right next to the car, he then notices me and the current state I was in.

"That's unusual, the bond should've faded by now, the bond was created so that when I was near it would die." Ōkami speaks to us, I was confused as well, this couldn't be a normal bond then if it hasn't died already.

"The only way it wouldn't have died off by now would be because there is more to the bond. We'll have to look into it more at the village." Ōkami speaks to all of us once more.

Ōkami flies to the driver side as he motions to follow him. He was probably leading all of us to the village. Is this what he was doing all the time he was gone?

Going off the road we are led to a big opening in the woods, suddenly driving in a village that wasn't seen before.

"We took all of the animals that could use the ability illusion, and worked together to hide this place from the humans. No human can enter unless an animal has given permission to do so."

That was a cool concept, a great way to keep me and my fathers kind safe.

We get out of the car as Ōkami leads me and the rest of the group to this big den area. The words infirmary written on the top.

I sat on top of a bed that wasn't being used, I looked over to my right to see that my father was talking to this green wolf with a purple lightning strike on her neck.

I see my father walk away as the green wolf makes her way over to where I was sitting.

She examines my body, the green wolf finds nothing wrong though.

That doesn't make sense to me, I'm over here at my weakest point, and nothing is wrong with me, what kind of news is that?

"So there is nothing physically wrong with your body, you see you have a broken heart, and that is not good for a pure blood like you. Pure bloods are not meant to be around chaos all their lives, so if you want to get better, I suggest laying low and making happy memories."

Nightslasher explains to me, also mentioning that she can not slow down the weakness, that she will have to do it on her own.

I look over to my right to see my father talking to Lucas, just seeing his heartwarming smile. Lucas then notices that I am done with my checkup and walks over to me.

"Maya, you're looking better, and I wanna promise you that I will do my best to protect you from this world." Lucas says as he gives me one big smile.

I was motioned by the green wolf that I was free to leave, so Lucas took my hand and led me to this special place with great scenery, with a little log used as a sitting place.

"Hey um Maya, I brought you to this place for a reason. I wanted to say that the day I met you, I knew I just had to be your friend, and you were the nicest. Even though you had been bullied all your life, you were still so kind to me. I wanted to say that I've liked you for the longest time, and I want to be there with you for the rest of your life."

I was on the verge of tears, I would never have thought that someone, especially like him, would be interested in someone like me. I gave a big smile towards him, knowing he was really nervous.

"I've liked you as well honestly, I just wasn't sure that someone like you would like me back."

We both smile at each other once more as we bring each other into a tight embrace
