The Two Fathers

Mr. Nuth, the father of Dr. Nork, and the grandfather of Albino(Annebeth Nork).

(Real quick; Mr. Nuth first appears in How Nuth Would Have Practiced His Art Upon the Gnoles by Lord Dunsany)

Mr. Nuth has similar powers to Dr. Nork. For the Good Doctor did inherit his powers from his father.

And Annebeth too inherited similar powers from her father, but more on that in a bit.

Mr. Nuth, who wore a fine English suit, while walking with a cane, teleported to his son's location.

" Father dear " said Dr. Nork, as he sipped his tea.

" My son, " said Mr. Nuth, as the light shone on his white hair and beard.

" To what do I owe this honor? " asked Dr. Nork.

" I have come, in the hopes of reasoning with you, " answered Mr. Nuth.

" Father " said Dr. Nork, sounding amused; " you speak as if I have gone mad? "

" You have gone mad, boy! " exclaimed Mr. Nuth with an english sternness, as he slammed the end of his cane on the ground; " it is not too late, my son "

Dr. Nork smiled.

" It is far too late, father "

Dr. Nork transformed into a being of pure light. The Good Doctor now sent forth a massive fist towards his father, but Mr. Nuth, easily, held back the fist with the tip of his cane.

Dr. Nork was horrified.

" Ah " said Mr. Nuth, as he looked into his son's eyes; " I see it now… a god is within you "

Mr. Nuth forced Dr. Nork to transform back into his human form.

" I will not yield, father, " said Dr. Nork with an English sternness.

Mr. Nuth just looked at his son.

" When was the last time you spoke to your daughter? " he asked.

Dr. Nork giggled.

" Some time ago " he said with a grin; " I called her a disappointment "

Anger fired within Mr. Nuth's eyes.

" From this day onward " said Mr. Nuth, as his eyes glowed with a powerful light; " I have no son "

Dr. Nork transformed into a dragon of light, but he was no match for Mr. Nuth.

There was a knock at the door.

" He is here! " exclaimed Annebeth in joy.

She opened the door, and before Mr. Nuth could prepare, Annebeth jumped into his arms.

" Grandpa! "

" Oh, my beloved grandchild " said Mr. Nuth in a loving voice; " how I have missed you "

Samantha now walked up to the door.

" It is good to meet you, sir " she said formally, and with a bow.

Mr. Nuth giggled softly.

" Please, there is no need for such things "

Mr. Nuth now sat down at the decorated table.

" What would you like to drink, sir? " asked Samantha, still in a formal tone.

" Just tea, please " answered Mr. Nuth with a gentleman's smile.

All three were now seated, and all three were enjoying their respective drinks.

" So " said Mr. Nuth; " how did you two meet? "

" On the job " answered Samantha with a smile, which clearly had another meaning.

Annebeth did not answer, she was simply sipping her drink.

Mr. Nuth now decided that he had to be frank and serious.

" I spoke with your father, " he said.

Annebeth looked at her grandfather, worried and surprised.

" What happened? " she asked.

With a sigh, Mr. Nuth answered;

" I have put him away, for the time being "

Samantha looked like she had a question.

" I have always been wondering " she said; " how come Annebeth does not have similar powers as her father? "

The room fell silent, as Mr. Nuth looked at his grandchild. Annebeth nodded.

" She did once. Till my son sealed them away "

" I thought that Dr. Nork could not take powers away? "

" He can't, " said Mr. Nuth with a faint smile; " just as I can't. But I did say that he "sealed" them away "

" What does that mean? " asked Samantha, curious and confused.

" Like me, my son can not take what has been given, nor take what belongs to another. So, instead, he creates the power to seal other powers away. But this sealing power can only be used on rare occasions " Mr. Nuth sighed, as he continued; " and the last time he sealed powers away, was when he sealed the powers of his own daughter "

Annebeth was gently massaging her chest, for that was where her father's cruel hand was; when he sealed her powers away.

" But " said Samantha; " she still has powers, she is still Albino "

" True. My son could not seal away Annebeth's connection to the wild and nature. But he did manage to seal away the powers which were similar to his, and myself "

" What a dick " said Samantha, after a moment of silence.

Mr. Nuth sighed heavily.

" He was not always like that… cold, calculating… evil. Once, he was capable of smiling. Once, he was filled with love. So much love, " said Mr. Nuth, as he remembered the good old days.

" What happened? " asked Samantha.

" My mother died, " answered Annebeth, without a single emotion.

Samantha wanted to ask; how? But she held her peace. But, as if reading her thoughts, Mr. Nuth answered;

" An accident. A simple car accident. No conspiracy. No powers… just a simple accident "

Mr. Nuth grew sad, as he continued;

" After the accident… I lost my son, and Annebeth lost her father "

The two of them thought that Annebeth would cry. But, neither Samantha nor Mr. Nuth knew the fact that Annebeth had no more tears left. For she had cried a lot when she was a child.

" This may sound a bit rude " said Samantha, after a moment; " but could Dr. Nork not just bring his wife back from the dead? I mean, he has access to an infinite amount of powers, right? "

Mr. Nuth giggled.

" Neither he, nor I could. That kind of power only belongs to the gods- "

Mr. Nuth stopped short, as he had finally pieced it together.

" Nergal… a god of death… "

Mr. Nuth stood up from his chair.

" Grandpa? " said Annebeth, confused.

Mr. Nuth excused himself, and then teleported to the place where he had imprisoned his son.

" Do not attempt it, " said Mr. Nuth, sternly.

" What are you talking about? " asked Dr. Nork, innocently.

" Do not try to bring her back to life "

A large grin befell the Good Doctor's face.

" You finally figured it out "

" She won't be the same! " cried Mr. Nuth.

" I don't care! " yelled Dr. Nork, from the top of his lungs; " she is my everything… my love, my breath… my everything "

Mr. Nuth shook his own head, as he realized that his son was far gone.

" You are in pain " said Mr. Nuth; " you have not allowed yourself to grieve… hopefully, this place will provide the time you need "

Mr. Nuth now started to walk away.

" Release me, father, " said Dr. Nork.

Mr. Nuth closed the door behind himself.

" Father!!! " yelled Dr. Nork with the full capacity of his lungs, as the tears ran down his face.

Dr. Nork was put away at a place where he could not activate any of his powers.

The Good Doctor was gone… for now.
