Happy

Again, Theo staring at the camera with a sad face. He was staring at the camera, but his eyes was looking somewhere far away. He was in a daze. A whole minute passed. Megan hovered the cursor of the system over the video to ensure that the tape wasn't frozen. However the tapping of Theo's finger against his lap proved the tape was still running.

He removed his hand from his lap and leaned forward.

"Do you remember the night at the bridge a few days after we met?" Again the sad smile flashed across his face.

" After our coffee shop in incident my dad passed away. It was a week before when we met by the bridge. I was sad, heartbroken and weak. The world moved on as if nothing happened. But my world came crashing down. He left my alcoholic mother to protect me.He fought against the world to raise me.

The man who shaped my life, the man to whom I owe everything in my life, the man who loved me unconditionally was gone.I didn't know how to live on. I had no other relative in this world. No one to call my own.

That's when I saw you again. It was night. It was getting late. People were returning home. But I guess time stood still for us two. I didn't go back home because there was no one to return to. You were sitting on the bench and looking at the moon. "

Meg realised Theo was again looking at something far away. He was looking at Megan who was sitting on the bench. He had travelled back to the moonlit bridge.

"The moon looked sad. You looked sadder. "

Theo's eyebrows crinkled.

" That's when I promised myself that if I ever get to know you better ,I will make sure you are never sad. Whatever happened in your life, whatever made you shrink, I will never let that happen again. And yet..."

Theo sighed deeply. He was back to the present. He lowered his eyes. His fingers began tapping against his lap again.

" I know you will never be happy with me. And I wanted to keep my promise. I know you will never see me again . But I want to tell you one thing - I have never stopped loving you. Never did. Even for a moment. One of the reason I left you is because I wanted you to be happy. And I realised that I wasn't a part of your happiness. I really hope wherever you are, you are happy now."

He looked upto the camera.

" Because I am not. I am okay, just not happy. And it hurts because I know what it meant to be happy when I was with you. And I miss being happy. I miss being with you. "

He put his hand over his eyes. He was about to cry.

Meg realised this man was broken Just like her. She was okay, but she wasn't happy.

She knew exactly what he meant.

Meg's heart clenched. All the memories she tried to forget came back to her. All the memories that were hidden in that little corner of mind where she had locked them away came back. All the happy memories that eventually turned sad.
