The Incredible Izdubar

I will begin this story off; with a song, but first, imagine that you are standing in the middle of the desert. Your brow filled with sweat. The baking sun on your back, and your skin as brown as copper.

But you feel a small relief, as the cool wind kisses your face.

Now for the song;

The smooth sands of the dry desert. The legendary land between the two rivers.

Where glorious Gilgamesh and ever-ready Enkidu, both went on to slay humble Humbaba.

Mesopotamia be massive.

Lo! For this land be rich in history.

Lo! For the desert be full of mysteries.

And lo! For if you not be careful, the desert will consume you.

And now a second song. This song is dedicated to our protagonist;

Incredible Izdubar, son of Ishtar! Son of Gilgamesh! And beloved stepson of Enkidu!

He was born with fiery hair. Eyes blue as sapphire.

His father's adventures heart beats strongly within his chest.

He sets out for unknown lands.

The Sword Welleran at his side.

Worry not, dear reader, for Izdubar shan't be alone. For on his journeys, friends, bonds, shall be made.

Izdubar was resting against a rock. He was dreaming of the old days. The days when he was a young boy.

He and his mother were out on a walk.

Izdubar fell in love with the world, for the world was truly beautiful in his eyes.

Ishtar looked on as her son wished to give her a flower.

Ishtar picked up her boy, and now started to kiss him all over.

" Mother! '' exclaimed the embarrassed boy; " I am too old for that sort of thing " said the boy, as he stood with his arms crossed.

Ishtar, lovingly smirking, held out her arms, and said;

" Even too old for a hug? "

The boy glanced back at his mother. With a smile, Izdubar cried;

" Never! " as he jumped into the embrace of his mother.

Izdubar now awoke. He was still smiling.

" Pleasant dream? " asked Welleran, for the sword could indeed talk.

" The best " said the young man, as he was rubbing his eyes.

Izdubar was resting against the Hand of the Desert. Which was once Annolith, the Giant Golem of the Desert.

Izdubar was making his way to the Huluppu Tree.

On his way, towards the Yggdrasil of the Desert.

Izdubar encounters a strange and old creature, an Alû-Abzû.

The Alû-Abzû were born when Abzû died.

They have the fangs and venom of an Inland Taipan Snake, the bodies of Orcs. The skin of Ghouls, and the eyes of a Cheshire Cat.

They are feared creatures during both day and night. Their footsteps are like cats. Their bloodlust is like a berserker's, and they have the skills of a master warrior, with the horns of Triceratops.

And last, but not least; their punches are like that of Mantis Shrimp's.

The most infamous and famous Alû-Abzû is the son of Asag The Afflicter, Anak The Killer.

I shall speak more of their minions, the Gallu-Goblins, but for now. Izdubar drew forth Welleran.

The Alû-Abzû slammed his massive axe on the ground.

Izdubar was unimpressed. He merely asked;

" Compensating? "

The Alû-Abzû tilted its head to the right, as a sign of curiosity.

The clash now began, and both fighters showed excellent skills with their respective weapons.

The weapons were now put to the side, for it had now come for the oldest way of fighting - with fists.

Punch after punch was thrown.

As stated before, the Alû-Abzû's punches were like that of a Mantis Shrimp's. Which meant that Izdubar did indeed feel the hard blows.

But, Izdubar is the son of Gilgamesh, who is strong as a bull!

Izdubar grabbed hold of the Alû-Abzû's punch. He then drew the creature near, and as he did so, Izdubar closed his free hand tightly.

Izdubar now killed the Alû-Abzû with a mighty blow to the face.

" Are you okay? " asked Welleran, as Izdubar was blue and bleeding.

" It is nothing… '' answered the youth, struggling to get the words out; " Hopefully, I can get treatment by the Utukku "

Izdubar now continued on foot, while painting the sand red; with his dripping blood.

It was a breathtaking sight, when Izdubar laid eyes on the Huluppu Tree.

The tree was both ancient and tall. It had existed before the mountains, and long after.

Izdubar now laid eyes on a Lamassu, who was resting by the tree.

Izdubar approached the creature.

The Lamassu awoke. It had a curious look on its face. The personalities of all Lamassus are like that of cats. Which is why Izdubar held out his hand, and whispered;

" Pspspsps "

The Lamassu slowly approached. It could now be seen sniffing Izdubar's open hand.

Izdubar now gently petted the creature.

After a few pats, the Lamassu now lowered its body, so that Izdubar could mount it.

The youth rested for a few seconds, as the Lamassu flew towards the large and long branches of the tree.

When Izdubar opened his eyes again, he saw that he was within a fine furnished room.

Izdubar also noticed that his wounds had been treated and that he was in a soft bed.

" I hope that all is to your liking, " said Asaruludu, lord of all the Utukku.

Izdubar grabbed the apple thrown to him.

He took a bite, as he admired the beauty of Asaruludu.

" Pray, tell " said Asaruludu with the voice of a spring breeze; " how did you receive such grievous wounds? "

" I got them from a Alû-Abzû "

A worried look befell the gentle face of Asaruludu.

" An Alû-Abzû… " said Asaruludu, as he paused; " yes. My people have spotted many of them; both far and near "

" Lucky for you " said Izdubar with a smile; " they can not climb trees "

Asaruludu let out a soft giggle.

" Indeed " he said; " but… it is still worry, nonetheless "

Asaruludu now sat up from the bed.

" Please. Stay as long as you like, and enjoy of what hospitality we can offer "

The Utukku are well-known, not only for their legendary beauty, but also for their hospitality.

As Izdubar walked out of his room, which was a part of the tree itself, he let out a soft;

" Wow… "

The Huluppu Tree was so high up in the sky, that the clouds were passing through the crown.

The clouds passing through, combined with all the pretty people. Izdubar was sure that he had died and gone to be among the gods.

" Please don't pinch me… " said Izdubar, still awe stricken.

" I don't have any hands, " said Welleran with what sounded like a giggle.

Izdubar now noticed an Utukku practicing with a bow and arrow.

The Utukku are also known for another thing; their skills with the bow.

A story, or rather; a song tells of the Utukku's frightening abilities with the bow.

There was once a foolish Alû-Abzû, who had made its way to the zenith of the Zagros Mountain.

The dumb creature howled curses and insults, for they were not clever enough to climb trees.

An Utukku had had enough. And thus; to make a short story short, the Alû-Abzû was silenced with an arrow.

What was impressive, was the fact that the arrow was able to reach the Alû-Abzû; despite the distance and wind. That is the frightening power which the Utukku have with a bow and arrow.

Izdubar looked on, as the Utukku hit her mark.

" Care to try? " said the Utukku, as she held her bow towards Izdubar.

" I am more of a swordsman, " said Izdubar, as he clapped Welleran.

The female Utukku had a smirking-smile on her face.

Izdubar felt challenged.

He took hold of the bow. Readied an arrow. He then fired, missing his mark.

The woman nodded her head, as if saying; it is probably best if you kept to the sword.

With red cheeks, for everyone had paused to observe, Izdubar gave the Utukku her bow back. He then stormed off.

It was now night, and a mighty feast was being held.

Izdubar ate his fill of the exquisite food, and some more.

Izdubar now saw her, the woman from before.

Izdubar's eyes followed her, not out of lust, but out of annoyance.

Izdubar's annoyance now turned to shock and surprise, as the woman sat beside Asaruludu.

" What…? " uttered Izdubar in disbelief.

" I know " said the Utukku beside him; " her beauty is unbelievable "

" Not that! " snapped Izdubar; " why is she sitting next to Asaruludu? "

" She is his daughter "

Izdubar almost choked on his food.

" His daughter…? " stammered Izdubar.

" She was the one who killed the Alû-Abzû ontop the Zagros Mountain "

" She is the Utukku in the song? " said Izdubar with a hint of respect.

When Izdubar looked again. He saw that she was looking directly at him.

Izdubar swallowed, as the princess took a sip of her wine.

The festivities were over, and Izdubar could be seen walking towards his room.

Izdubar let out a yawn.

He then looked to his right, and that was when he laid eyes on a Utukku; who was looking up at the night sky.

As Izdubar approached the female Utukku. He noticed strange and old symbols on her body.

" I have been expecting you " said the woman without turning around.

Izdubar froze.

" Don't be afraid, " said the woman, as she turned around.

But Izdubar was very afraid, when he realized who the woman was.

She was Lillitu, The Dark Maiden of the Moon.

She had the gift called Sîn-lēqi-unninni. Which enabled her to understand both the stars and the moon.

When people spoke about the Dark Maiden, they did so with both renown and fear.

Izdubar was still frozen, as Lillitu approached.

Lillitu gently placed her hand on Izdubar's cheek.

Izdubar was now looking directly into Lillitu's grey eyes.

" Interesting " said the maiden, as she seemed to release her hold on Izdubar.

Izdubar now felt like he had control over his body.

He now saw that Lillitu went back to observing the stars.

" What did you mean, when you said; interesting? "

Lillitu was quiet for a moment, as the wind flew past her silkened hair.

" I saw many adventures in your future "

" That is not surprising " said Izdubar with a smile; " I am my father's son after all "

" And like your father, you shall suffer a great loss "

Izdubar's smile vanished.

" What do you mean? "

Lillitu did not answer.

" Please tell me! " exclaimed Izdubar, as he took a step closer, but he only dared to take that one step.

Lillitu paused for a moment, as the moon shone down on her smooth skin.

" You shall lose a dear friend "

Those words echoed within Izdubar's mind, as he tried to fall asleep.

Without Izdubar knowing. Ishtar could sense the distresse of her son.

So, in the middle of the night, the goddess entered her son's room.

Izdubar's brow was knitted, for he was having a bad dream.

Ishtar sat down next to her son. She was gently stroking Izdubar's head.

She now began to sing;

" Hush, my sweet baby, and put aside your worries. For mommy will never leave your side. And if you ever should worry, know that mommy will be by your side "

The wind loved her singing, and the light loved to make her red hair glow.

Even the moon wanted to make her green eyes glow.

Izdubar slept like he had never slept before. And the dreams he had were truly heavenly.

Izdubar now opened his eyes, as he felt the light of the sun on his face.

" Good Morning, " said Welleran.

" Morning "

" Did you sleep well? "

With a gay smile, Izdubar said:

" Yeah "

Izdubar was now summoned before Asaruludu.

" I see that you are well rested, " said Asaruludu with a soft smile.

Izdubar smiled towards Asaruludu, but his smile quickly vanished as he noticed Layla - that is the name of the princess - next to her father.

Layla had a smirk on her face, as she waved to Izdubar.

Izdubar waved coldly back.

" My boy, now that you are all rested, I must ask; what is your quest? " asked Asaruludu with a cheerful smile.

Izdubar now seemed all cold and distant.

" I didn't mean to press you, my dear boy " said Asaruludu, as he noticed the grave look on Izdubar; " I was merely curious "

Izdubar gathered himself, as he let out a sigh.

" You deserve to know of my quest " said Izdubar with a faint-smile; " I mean to slay Tharagavverug "

The whole room fell silent, as a serious atmosphere took hold.

" My dear child, " said Asaruludu compused; " are you sure? "

Izdubar looked unwavered, as he said;

" I am "

A surprised and curious look befell Layla.

Asaruludu stood up from his throne.

Like a gentle wind, Asaruludu walked over to Izdubar. He then laid a hand on Izdubar's shoulder.

" I know not what has happened, for you to seek out Tharagavverug. I can only guess; that it is a serious matter "

Izdubar nodded his head.

Asaruludu clapped his shoulder.

" Do you know where he is? "

" Within Mount Uludağ " answered Izdubar, without missing a beat.

Asaruludu saw the determined fire within Izdubar's eyes. The Lord of the Utukku said no more.

But Asaruludu did provide Izdubar with food and some new clothes.

Izdubar was ready to leave, as he sat on top of the Lamassu.

" Wait! " yelled a voice.

Izdubar now looked on, as Layla was running towards him.

Layla now jumped onto the Lamassu. And she could now be seen sitting behind Izdubar.

" What are you doing? " asked Izdubar, really confused.

" I am coming with you, " said Layla, as she held onto Izdubar, thightly.

Izdubar shook himself free.

" Why? " he asked.

" Because; I have been itching for an adventure "

As Izdubar looked behind, he finally noticed Layla's fair features. From her golden hair to her emerald eyes.

" What is wrong? " asked Layla with a smile, as she noticed Izdubar's reaction.

" Just make sure that you don't slow me down, " said Izdubar, as he signaled for the Lamassu to take flight.

The two of them now dismounted the Lamassu, for these winged creatures were bound to the Huluppu Tree.

" Where are we going? " asked Layla.

With a smile, Izdubar said;

" To Allathurion, the kingdom of Rabisu "

" The bloodsuckers… " said Layla, as she sounded hella excited.

Days of travel went by, and Izdubar and Layla were both now sitting by a campfire. And above them - a sea of glittering stars.

" Sing a song " said Layla, as she enjoyed the meat she had hunted and prepared.

Izdubar was not in the mood, but Layla certainly was.

" There was once a grumpy prince - Izdubar looked up at Layla - he was silent as a hill. Merry and joy both seemed foreign to him! For the prince carried a heavy burden with-in. "

" Who is this "prince"? " asked Izdubar, already knowing the answer.

Layla smiled, as she enjoyed her meal in silence.

" I think that you are the prince, " said Welleran, nonchalantly.

" I know, " said Izdubar, sarcastically.

Layla giggled.

Izdubar went back to staring into the bright fire.

Layla finished her meal. She now laid down, ready to rest, for Welleran would watch over them both.

" At least " said Layla with a soft and bright smile; " sing me a goodnight song "

Izdubar was quiet for a second. He sighed, as he cleared his throat.

" Far away… within the depths of Mount Uludağ. Tharagavverug sleeps in a bed of rubies, emeralds, gold, and sapphire. The dragon-crocodile is ever watchful… ever egear to unleash its hellish fire. "

Layla and Izdubar had both now reached Atlit Yam.

The city was busy, as it was lively.

Neither Izdubar or Layla knew where to begin. Atlit Yam was filled with too many wonders.

" Hail, friends " said a voice.

Izdubar or Layla both now looked, and they both saw that the voice belonged to a half-man, and half-horse individual - a centaur. More specifically, Shepperalk the Centaur.

" It has been awhile, old friend " said Shepperalk, as he looked at Izdubar.

" Indeed it has, " said Izdubar with bright eyes.

" You two clearly seem to be friends, " said Layla.

" We have been on some adventures together, " said Shepperalk, as he placed his hand on Izdubar's shoulder.

Layla did not show any sign of envy. She only envied the fact that she had been on so few adventures.

The three of them walked together. While walking. Izdubar and Shepperalk would both speak of the good old days, while Layla listened.

The three of them ate plenty of unique food. Layla drank Izdubar under the table. There was dancing, singing, and when night came. That was when the stargazing began.

" Tell me, Shepperalk, what has been worrying you? " asked Izdubar.

" Whatever do you mean? " answered Shepperalk with a fake smile.

Shepperalk could see that Izdubar saw through his deception.

The centaur sighed, as he put his drink down.

" Frankly " said Shepperalk with a heavy breath; " a fearsome dragon has been tormenting Atlit Yam for some time "

" Do you know the dragon's name? " asked Layla.

Shepperalk looked straight at Layla, he then said;

" Lunk "

" What has Lunk been doing? " asked Izdubar.

" The dragon has been attacking both merchants and caravans. And its attacks have not stopped there. Many innocent people from nearby towns, have all sought shelter within Atlit Yam, for Lunk has burned all their homes down - a solemn look befell Shepperalk - I was with the many gallant warriors who all went out to try and slay the foul creature… only I survived - Shepperalk sighed, as he prayed for the lost souls - I truly do not know what to do… "

" I know " said Izdubar, as he stood up; " aid me in slaying Lunk "

Hope returned to Shepperalk's eyes.

The centaur smiled, as he said;

" Gladly "

" Don't forget about me, " said Layla, as she finished her cup of wine.

" A dragon? " said the sword Welleran; " I have never tasted dragon-blood before… This should be fun. "

The plan was set.

Izdubar would lure Lunk to the walls of the city. and then; everyone would rain down a hail of arrows upon the beast.

" Are you sure that you can run fast enough? " asked Welleran.

" Watch me, " Izdubar said with confidence.

All was quiet, as the wind passed.

The sand was moving.

Izdubar now realized… that it was not the wind moving the sand.

Izdubar went into a sprint, as Lunk came bursting out of the desert.

" Run, boy, run. This world is not meant for you- "

" Shut up! " yelled Izdubar, before Welleran could finish the song.

Lunk's massive jaw got a bit too close to Izdubar. That was when Layla made the dragon back off with an arrow to the eye.

Izdubar got safely behind the gates, and that was when Shepperalk yelled;

" Fire! "

The arrows all came down like rain.

Lunk's hide was tuff, but the arrows did manage to hit the dragon's few weak spots.

Lunk finally dropped dead.

" Aw man… " said Welleran.

" What… " said Izdubar, as he was gasping for air.

" I did not taste dragon blood… "

Izdubar fixed that, when he used Welleran for slicing Lunk's meat.

Izdubar and Layla both stayed in Atlit Yam for a few days.

Afterwards.

They went straight to Allathurion.

Where our story now picks up.

" Woah… " exclaimed Layla, as she and Izdubar rode past the gates and guards.

Allathurion looked a lot like a medieval kingdom, located within the desert.

Layla's gaze went from the buildings to the people.

The Edimmu, who are the people inhabiting Allathurion, are all vampires.

Not your typical vampire, mind you.

The Edimmu all have the characteristics of a vampire, but they lack the thirst for blood, and weakness to the sun. They can drink blood, but they would rather enjoy the sweet taste of pomegranate wine.

Layla could not take her eyes off the Edimmu, they were all so beautiful. Even poor Izdubar could barely keep his eyes on the road.

The Edimmu are known for their pale skin, raven hair, and blood-moon eyes.

Layla especially looked at the many female Edimmu.

Izdubar could feel that the saddle was suddenly wet.

" You are leaking! '' exclaimed Izdubar.

The two of them dismounted at an inn, so that they could bathe, change clothes, and then get something to eat.

" Why is Layla spending so much time bathing? " said Izdubar.

" Leave her be " said Welleran; " she is just blowing off some… "steam" "

When Layla finally came down to eat. Her whole body was practically glowing.

" You looked loosened up, " said Izdubar, innocently.

Layla grinned devilishly at his words.

A knight now entered the inn.

When the knight saw both Izdubar and Layla, he seemed serious.

" Lord Rabisu requests both your presences, at once "

Izdubar and Layla made their way to the castlevania-looking-castle within Allathurion.

When the gates to the castle opened, bats flew out.

As Izdubar and Layla walked within the giant halls, they could not help but notice all the glowing eyes in the ceiling.

They now entered the throne room.

" Damn… " uttered Izdubar, amazed.

His words echoed throughout the giant room of the throne.

" Welcome " said a soft and gentle voice.

Layla felt the need to blow off some more "steam" when she beheld Rabisu.

Even Izdubar thought about it, which is why he crossed his legs.

Rabisu rose from his throne.

He poured some pomegranate wine into three glasses.

He handed one to Layla, and one to Izdubar.

Layla was slurping her drink, as she beheld Rabisu's fine shaped ass.

" Wow "

" I know, " nodded Izdubar.

" What brings you two hither? " asked Rabisu.

The drink had cooled Izdubar down, but Layla needed another drink - for she was "thirsty".

" We would like to stay within your kingdom for a few days, " said Izdubar.

" But of course, " said Rabisu with open arms.

(Note; the Edimmu are famous for their hospitality, which could put that of the Utukku's to shame. They are very generous - if you know what I am saying ;D)

Rabisu now sniffed the air.

" Dragon blood…? " said Rabisu, surprised, as he looked at Welleran.

" May I? " said Rabisu, as he held out his hands.

Izdubar now handed Welleran to Rabisu.

The Lord of the Edimmu examined the blade.

" I have never seen the like, '' said Rabisu, impressed, as he had beheld many swords throughout his long life.

Izdubar and Layla both looked on, as Rabisu licked some of the dragon blood off Welleran.

" Exquisite, " said Rabisu.

" I think I came a little… " said the sword.

" Me too, " said Layla with a smile.

" Enough with the sex jokes! " yelled Izdubar.

" Never! " yelled the writer.

Layla- and Izdubar's stay in Allathurion was magical.

Layla even got to experience the "generosity" of the Edimmu on several occasions.

The unhappy day had come at last, when Izdubar and Layla both had to leave Allathurion.

" Can't we stay… a few more days, please? " said Layla, as she was tugging at Izdubar's shirt.

" As much as I want to say yes - and the gods know how much I want to say yes - we must move on, " said Izdubar.

Layla now started to cry real tears of sadness.

" Wait " said Rabisu, as he approached; " may I ask one question? "

" Of course, " said Izdubar.

" What kind of quest are you two on? "

Izdubar grew serious, as he said;

" We intend to kill Tharagavverug "

Rabisu was both shocked and surprised.

" I know that you have killed a dragon before… but Tharagavverug is no mere dragon, " said Rabisu, concerned.

Izdubar showed no sign of disheartening.

Rabisu looked at Layla, who just shrugged her shoulders with a smile.

" I see " said Rabisu with a sighing smile; " then allow me to aid you both, one last time "

Rabisu whistled, and that was when a female Edimmu warrior walked forward.

" This is Eupraxia, please allow her to accompany you "

Layla thought that she had seen all the beauties of the Edimmu, but Eupraxia truly blew her away, and she now started to "leak" again.

There are sadly no words in the English language which could describe Eupraxia's beauty. But, worry not, I will instead use french;

Sa peau pâle est comme du sable. ses yeux comme une rose. ses cheveux comme le ciel nocturne, et son sourire est le briseur de genoux.

" I am honored, " said Eupraxia with a bow.

Normally. Layla would be riding with Izdubar. But, understandably, Layla could now be seen riding with Eupraxia. And Layla could not keep her hands to herself, but Eupraxia did not seem to mind.

" Lucky… " murmured Izdubar.

" Hey, at least you have me, " said Welleran.

Izdubar could be heard sighing.

It took a few days, but the group had at long last arrived at Babbelkund.

Babbelkund was like an ancient mesopotamian city.

There were walls like Ishtar gates. A beautiful ziggurat in the middle, and various sumerian pictures all around.

Izdubar rode up to the gates, which were painted a beautiful blue lapis lazuli.

" Mother " said Izdubar, faintly.

" Come on " yelled Layla, as she and Eupraxia rode within the city. And what a city it was.

There were marchants, playing children, and elders playing the Royal Game of Ur.

" And many pretty people, " said Layla.

" Keep it in your pants " said Izdubar.

" No promises " said Layla with a smile, as she rested her cheek on Eupraxia's back.

Eupraxia sniffed the air.

" What is it? " asked Izdubar.

" Foul blood " said Eupraxia with a glare.

Guards now rode up to the group.

" Halt, " said a guardsman.

" We come in peace " said Izdubar, as the guards surrounded them.

Eupraxia hissed, as she showed her fangs.

" Easy girl " said Layla, as she was ready to pull out her bow.

" The king demands to see you all "

" Demands? " said Izdubar.

The guardsman was quiet.

Izdubar looked over at Layla.

Layla nodded her head.

The gang now made their way up towards the throne room, which was located at the top of the ziggurat.

There he sat, on a throne of gold and jewels. The king of Babbelkund - King Nehemoth.

Fun fact; King Nehemoth would later reincarnate as Caliph Vathek.

The purple king, for he was dressed in all purple, sipped his drink, as the gang now stood before him.

" Magnificent " said Nehemoth, as he beheld both Layla and Eupraxia.

" An Utukku and an Edimmu. The songs do not do either of you justice. Both your beauties are breathtaking "

Layla smirked, as she said;

" Horny king "

" You are not really one to talk, " said Welleran.

Layla kicked the sword.

Nehemoth's gaze now turned to Izdubar.

" Ah, another eye-candy "

" What is it that you want from us? " asked Izdubar.

King Nehemoth said nothing. He merely snapped his fingers, and that was when a servant walked in with cups filled with wine.

" Tell me " said Layla, as she emptied her cup; " what do you intend to do once you have all of us drunk? "

The king smiled lustfully.

" Hmmm " said Layla with a smirk; " challenge accepted "

Like elves, the Utukku do not get easily drunk.

" No " said Nehemoth, as he rose from his seat; " I brought you all here for another reason "

" What? " said Izdubar.

" I heard that you and your friends were able to slay Lunk, correct? "

" Yeah "

" Well " said the king, as he picked up a cup of wine; " Lunk's brother, Thok, has been plaguing my kingdom for some time. He comes, from time-to-time, and tries to break down Babbelkund's mighty walls with his thick head. The walls hold, but each time new cracks appear - Nehemoth emptied his cup - my men have tried in vain to slay the loathsome beast… I have lost too many. So now " said the king, as he turned to the group; '' I ask your aid to slay this foul dragon. Before the walls fall "

" You are hiring us? " said Layla, surprised.

" Yes. And of course, all of you will be rewarded handsomely "

The king clapped his hands, and that was when several strong-built men walked in. Each man was holding a chest filled with glittering gold and jewels.

" We do not require riches, " said Izdubar, humbly.

" Woah, woah. Hold your horses " said Layla, as she was dazzled by all the glittering treasures.

Izdubar noticed that both women wanted a specific thing from among the treasures.

" Take what you want, " Izdubar said with a smile.

Layla took a necklace, which was more fair than Brísingamen.

Eupraxia took some earrings which were called; Blood Eyes. For each earring had a ruby which had the color of blood itself.

" Women " said Welleran with what sounded like a smile.

The group were now paid, so the king expected the dragon to be slain.

Izdubar, Layla, and Eupraxia, were all three standing at the spot where Thok would usually attack.

" That wall has seen better days " said Layla, as she beheld the cracked part of the wall.

" Shhh " said Eupraxia, as her pointy ears picked up something.

" What is it? whispered Izdubar.

Eupraxia sniffed the air. She then kneeled down, and placed her hand on the moving sand.

" It is coming "

Thok came bursting out from the ground.

The gang moved out of the way, as Thok breathed down fire.

Layla tried to blind the beast with her arrows. She got one eye, but Thok now did his damndest to protect his other eye.

As the dragon's blood dripped from his wounded eye. Eupraxia ran underneath the eye, and drank some of the Thok's blood.

Eupraxia's red eyes glowed, as she grinned.

" What is happening? '' asked Layla, as Eupraxia had turned a bit sexy-demonic.

With indescribable speed, Eupraxia was now standing on Thok's head.

With a single punch, Eupraxia broke the dragon's skull.

Izdubar and Layla both looked on, dumbfounded.

" Damn… " uttered Welleran, hella impressed, and hella scared. For Eupraxia had just killed a dragon with a single punch.

Eupraxia walked up to the group, now looking a bit more "calm".

Eupraxia grabbed Layla by the waist. Eupraxia now proceeded to give Layla a French kiss.

" Are you trying to eat her tongue? " asked Izdubar, a bit concerned.

Layla tapped out, and Izdubar quickly caught her, as she fell.

Eupraxia licked the saliva around her mouth.

" Delicious " said the Edimmu, as her adrenaline had finally calmed down.

" Layla! Layla! " yelled Izdubar, concerned, as Layla was just staring into empty air. The experience was too pleasurable, even for her.

Layla did eventually recover, and when she did. The gang made their way towards the Taurus Mountains, where the Ubaid-Lizard people live. For it was high time to upgrade their weapons and armor, before they made their way towards Mount Uludağ.

The Ubaid-Lizard people are large humanoid lizards, who live deep within the Taurus Mountains.

They are masters of the forge, and they have created many legendary weapons and armor.

Rumor has it that it was an Ubaid-Lizard who created both Welleran and Sacnoth.

Layla rested her head against Izdubar's back, as she was taking a nap.

" We have arrived, " said Eupraxia, as the Taurus Mountains stood before them.

" Are you sure? " said Layla, as she was rubbing her eyes.

" I can smell their cold blood, " said Eupraxia with a smile.

Suddenly, several Ubaid-Lizard warriors came bursting out from the sand.

The horses panicked, and threw their riders off.

Izdubar, Layla, and Eupraxia, all drew their weapons forth.

An Ubaid-Lizard warrior hissed, and Eupraxia hissed back.

A large shadow was cast over the gang, as each Ubaid-Lizard warrior was towering over them.

Izdubar noticed that the Ubaid-Lizard warriors were all wearing futuristic armor, while wielding futuristic weapons.

" The weapon and armor of the Anunnaki… " uttered Izdubar, amazed.

A Ubaid-Lizard warrior giggled.

" We were taught by the Anunnaki themselves, oh, son of Ishtar "

" Ishtar?! " exclaimed both Layla and Eupraxia.

" He is also the son of Gilgamesh "

" Gilgamesh… " uttered both Layla and Eupraxia.

" You know who I am " said Izdubar; " but I know none of you "

The tallest, most muscular, and mightiest of the Ubaid-Lizard warriors now stepped forward.

" He is clearly the leader, " said Welleran, while in Izdubar's hands.

The warrior took off his helmet, and then said;

" My name is Saragoza, champion of the Ubaid-Lizards " said the mighty and proud figure; " if I may, what brings a demi-god, an Utukku, and an Edimmu to the Taurus Mountains? "

Izdubar smiled, as he said;

" We heard that the Ubaid-Lizards were masters of forge and craft "

All the Ubaid-Lizard warriors giggled.

" You heard correctly " said Saragoza with a smile; " do you wish to hire our services? "

Izdubar nodded.

"'Very well, " said Saragoza, as he nodded to his men. Each warrior now lowered his respective futuristic weapon.

As Izdubar, Layla, and Eupraxia were all being escorted closer to the mountain. Layla whispered to Izdubar;

" You never said that you were the son of Gilgamesh and Ishtar "

" You never asked, " said Izdubar with a smile.

Layla gently punched Izdubar's shoulder, as she was smiling.

Everyone now stood before the Taurus Mountains.

" What now? " asked Layla.

Saragoza said nothing, as he simply walked forward; vanishing within the mountain.

"What just happened? " asked Layla, confused.

" An illusion…? " said Izdubar, amazed.

" Bingo " said an Ubaid-Lizard warrior.

The group now walked past the illusion, and they had all now entered the heart of the Taurus Mountains.

" Wow… " uttered Eupraxia with child-like amazement.

For the inside of the mountain was advanced and futuristic.

There were flying vehicles, glowing weapons, and armor which could not be described.

The Ubaid-Lizards were fierce in appearance, while maintaining a unique beauty.

Izdubar noticed the "curious" look on Layla's face.

Saragoza led the group towards the Lord of the Taurus Mountains.

" Woah… " expressed Izdubar in astonishment, for the hall they were walking within was colossal. The halls were so big that Gugalanna could freely walk within.

The doors to the throne room opened, and on the throne sat the Lord of the Taurus Mountains, the king of the Ubaid-Lizard people - King Gareus.

" He does not appear to be that old? " whispered Layla.

" The Ubaid-Lizards age slowly. King Gareus' body may not show it, but he is thousands of years old, " said Welleran.

" Kinda like us, " said Layla, impressed.

" And us, " said Eupraxia.

" Hmmm " whispered Izdubar, as he realized that he was the youngest in the room.

King Gareus gently tapped his tail on the floor, as he beheld the group with his reptilian eyes.

Saragoza and his men, all kneeled before the king.

" An Utukku, an Edimmu, and a demi-god… how curious, " said the king with a smile.

King Gareus now noticed the sword at Izdubar's hip.

" Do my eyes deceive me? '' uttered the king, surprised and delighted.

The towering king stood up from his throne, and now kneeled before Izdubar.

The king may be kneeling, but Izdubar had to look upwards in order to meet the king's gaze.

" May I? " asked the king, gently, as he held out his hands.

Izdubar now gave Welleran to Gareus.

Gareus' tail was wagging like an excited dog, as he beheld Welleran. Even his reptilian tongue could not stop dancing.

" It has been too long, old friend, " said king Gareus.

" Too long, " Welleran said, solemnly.

" Do you two know one another? " said Izdubar, surprised.

Gareus let out a gentle sigh.

" When I was a prince, Welleran was put in my care. The day then came when the beloved goddess, Ishtar, visited our kingdom. We gave Welleran to Ishtar as a gift, and she gave the sword to her son - Gareus looked at Izdubar with soft and gentle eyes - to you "

The king handed the sword back, and he now sat back on his throne.

" Please " said the king, still with excitement in his eyes; " what brings a unique fellowship like yours to our humble kingdom? "

" Great king " said Izdubar with a bow; " we seek armor and weapons. The likes which only your people can make "

" You sound as if you are going to war - the king paused - are you? " he asked.

" We are not going to war with a people, nor a kingdom. We merely wish to put an end to Tharagavverug "

At the sound of that name, Saragoza slammed his tail on the ground.

All eyes turned to the champion of the Ubaid-Lizards, but Saragoza was unaffected by their gazes. The fire of revenge was still burning hotly in his eyes.

" Tharagavverug killed my parents… " uttered Saragoza through his gritted fangs.

Izdubar looked at Gareus. The king simply nodded his head.

Nothing more was said, as the sound of hammers on hot steel echoed throughout the hollow mountains.

Exquisite armor, and legendary weapons were given to the ladies.

Izdubar only required armor, for he had Welleran by his side.

Unsurprisingly, when the gang was ready to leave, Saragoza asked if he could join them.

Layla eagerly agreed, for she was still very "curious" if you catch my meaning.

And yes, male Ubaid-Lizards do have penises.

Lizard penises… What the fuck is wrong with me?

hmmm… not opening that door…

(Aham)

Eupraxia was always happy to have a new friend.

So it was decided.

The Champion of the Ubaid-Lizard People, the mightiest and tallest of all the Ubaid-Lizard Warriors, Saragoza, has officially joined the fellowship.

" Why are we going to the Mighty Mountains? " asked Layla.

" We need information, which only the Gallu-Goblin King has, " said Izdubar.

" What information? "

" He knows the one weak spot on Tharagavverug "

The eyes of Layla, Eupraxia, and Saragoza all widened in surprise and astonishment.

" He has a weak spot? " said Saragoza, as his tail wagged a bit excitedly.

" We heard a rumor, a while back " said Izdubar, referring to himself and Welleran; " I sat in an inn, enjoying drink and food. This stranger, who some later called; Leothric, said; " Tharagavverug's invulnerable hide has one weak spot. And only the Gallu-Goblin King knows where to find it " the stranger then finished his drink, and walked out "

" So, we are betting our lives on the words of a complete stranger, who might as well have told a story of wonder, from the Book of Wonder, " said Layla.

Izdubar smiled, as he said;

" Would you have it any other way? "

The whole fellowship smiled.

" Let us do this, " said Eupraxia, as her red eyes glowed.

The fellowship had finally reached the Mighty Mountains.

They reached an entrance, and walked within.

As everyone was walking, while the light of their torches were glittering, a song befell the whole gang;

" Far deep, within the Mighty Mountains of Old - the song now started to echo throughout the hollow mountains - the light of our torches, light our way through the dark. And our fellowship keeps us merry! "

Everyone now heard strange sounds around them.

" Gallu-Goblins " muttered Welleran.

The gang were all back-to-back, as an uncountable amount of glowing eyes surrounded them.

" I guess that this is not a bad way to go, " said Layla with her bow and arrow in hand.

Saragoza held his large axe, as Eupraxia wielded her duel swords.

Izdubar now pulled out Welleran.

" Well, old friend " said Izdubar with a smile; " let us go out with a bang "

The sword smiled.

That was when the whole mountain started to shake.

All the Gallu-Goblins cowered in fear, as Welleran muttered once more;

" The Gallu-Goblin King "

The light of their torches went out, that was when the natural light of the Mighty Mountains took effect.

The gang now saw him, the towering figure which was the Gallu-Goblin King.

Saragoza was the tallest of his race, but even he seemed like a pebble.

" Strangers " spoke the Gallu-Goblin King; " what do strangers do in my kingdom? "

Izdubar stepped forward.

" We seek the secret to defeat Tharagavverug! "

The laughter of the Gallu-Goblin King echoed throughout the hollow mountains.

" And why " said the Gallu-Goblin King with a wide smile; " would I ever disclose such a secret? "

" So the dragon-crocodile does have a weak spot, " said Izdubar with a smirk.

The Gallu-Goblin King grew furious, as he realized that he had been deceived.

" Devour them all! " proclaimed the king.

All the Gallu-Goblins now charged at the gang.

" Well " said Layla; " we should properly- "

" Run! " yelled Izdubar.

The gang ran with all haste. They did not know where they were running, only that their path led deeper inside the Mighty Mountains.

" There! " yelled Eupraxia, as there was a chamber ahead.

As everyone ran in, Saragoza and Eupraxia both closed the doors of stone.

All the Gallu-Goblins tried to push the doors open, but the fellowship, together, held the doors closed.

" What do we do?! " yelled Layla.

" I am open for suggestions! " yelled Izdubar.

That was when Saragoza could not believe his eyes. At the end of the chamber lay a broken T.I.

For those who are unaware. A T.I. - Takwin-Igigi, for short. Are futuristic-robotic-homunculus-humanoid creatures, created by the Anunnaki.

" Buy me some time! " yelled Saragoza, as he ran to the broken T.I.

As I stated previously. The Ubaid-Lizard People are all masters of forge and craft. So Saragoza now used everything he had and knew to fix the broken T.I.

" Hurry up! " exclaimed Layla through her gritted teeth, as the doors were about to give way.

Saragoza needed a few more seconds, but that was when the doors were pushed open.

Each warrior pulled out their respective weapons, and now started to diminish the numbers of the Gallu-Goblins. And in doing so, they bought Saragoza the seconds he needed.

The eyes of the T.I. glowed once more, and Saragoza gave only one command;

" Exterminate "

The T.I. now started to kill the Gallu-Goblins on masse. For the T.I.s were designed to conquer whole planets with ease.

The T.I. was now flying over the Gallu-Goblin King with its futuristic plasma-arm-gun pointed at the cowering king.

" Mercy… " begged the Gallu-Goblin King.

" Tell us what we wish to know, and you will live " said Izdubar, as the fellowship stood behind him.

The king saw that he had no choice.

" It is a hard task to vanquish Tharagavverug, for no sword can pierce his hide; his back cannot be broken, and he can neither burn nor drown - the Gallu-Goblin King paused for a moment, he then went on - but, though he is not vulnerable, yet in one spot he may take hurt, for his nose is only of lead, while the rest is of steel. "

The fellowship now knew how to defeat the dragon-crocodile.

" Alright " said Izdubar, as he looked at Saragoza; " he may live "

Saragoza gave the command to stand down, but that was when the T.I. malfunctioned, and fired off its gun, instantly killing the once Gallu-Goblin King.

The king may have been wicked, but Izdubar had promised mercy. So he was left with a bitter taste in his mouth for the rest of his days, as his word was not kept.

The gang were sitting around a campfire. It was dark, and all of them were meditating.

Eupraxia was sharpening her blades, both her fangs, and her swords.

Saragoza was putting a finishing touch on the T.I.

Layla sat, and spoke with the wind.

And their leader Izdubar, well, he was petting the Dog of the Desert; Voth.

" Let us go " said Izdubar, with Welleran at his side.

The fellowship now made their way to Mount Uludağ.

" Here we are, " said Izdubar, as the mountain was before them.

" Let us finish this, " said Welleran.

Izdubar's hand was shaking a bit. He took a deep breath, and now breathed out.

Layla laid her hand on Izdubar's shoulder.

Izdubar looked at her.

Layla smiled, and both of them nodded with smiles on their faces.

The fellowship now entered the mountain of the dragon-crocodile.

All was quiet.

Only the sound of footsteps could be heard, and the creaking of the T.I.

" This place is huge! " exclaimed Layla.

" This structure is impressive, " said Eupraxia, impressed.

Even Saragoza nodded in approval.

" Up ahead, " said Welleran.

Before the fellowship stood a massive door, big enough for an Anakim to walk through.

A bright light came from the door, so the fellowship all had to shield their eyes.

They now entered, and all were left speechless.

Before the group lay a horde of treasure, more numerous than the Cave of Wonders. Bigger than the treasure of Scrooge McDuck and Smaug combined.

As far as the eye could see, from top to bottom, ruby, sapphire, emeralds, lapis lazuli, diamonds, jewels, statues, and glittering gold.

The fellowship was still speechless. They were astonished at the amount of greed before them.

Everyone now heard Eupraxia sniff the air, and Saragoza picked up the body heat of something with his tongue.

Both of them now said;

" Something is underneath the treasure "

The gang moved out of the way, as all the treasure moved.

Many of them now caught the sight of a tail.

Saragoza slammed his own tail at the sight of Tharagavverug's tail.

Izdubar could see anger fire in Saragoza's eyes.

" Saragoza " said Izdubar, worried; " not yet "

But Saragoza had already given the order;

" Exterminate "

The T.I. flew into the air, and aimed its futuristic guns at the tail.

But that was when everyone looked on in horror, as the head of Tharagavverug came bursting out from the treasure, devouring the T.I.

They could all hear the dragon-crocodile crunch the poor T.I. into pieces.

The original plan was to use the T.I. to end Tharagavverug, but Saragoza let his emotions get the better of him.

The Ubaid-Lizard warrior gritted his fangs in frustration.

Eupraxia placed her hand on his shoulder.

" No need to cry over spilled milk "

Everyone jumped into action, as Tharagavverug's whole body was now visible.

Layla tried to find a weak spot with her arrows, but there were none; not even the eyes were weak spots.

Saragoza slammed his axe on Tharagavverug's back, but it had no effect.

Not even Eupraxia's fangs could pierce Tharagavverug's skin.

What to do?

" The nose… " muttered Izdubar.

Tharagavverug seemed to have guessed that the fellowship knew of his one weak spot.

The dragon-crocodile charged at Izdubar with an open maw.

Tharagavverug stopped short, for Saragoza was holding him back by the tail.

Even Layla and Eupraxia were both holding the beast down by his legs.

" Now! " yelled Welleran.

Tharagavverug looked on in horror, as Izdubar jumped towards him.

Izdubar now ran the sword Welleran straight into the lead nose of Tharagavverug.

The dragon-crocodile cried out in pain and torment. The cries now stopped, as the beast was now dead.

The blood of Tharagavverug melted all of the treasure away.

" We did it! " proclaimed Izdubar, overjoyed.

His friends ran to him, but they all stopped, and were now looking at him in horror.

" What? " said Izdubar, scared and confused.

" Old friend… "

Izdubar now saw what horrified his friends… Welleran was melting.

Izdubar fell to his knees, words failed him, and he could only weep.

" The blood of Tharagavverug melts any metal it comes in contact with. Only the sword Sacnoth is immune, " said Welleran, calmly.

" You knew… " uttered Izdubar through his tears.

Welleran was a sword, but Izdubar knew that he was smiling.

" I knew. And I did not tell you. I knew that you desperately wanted to slay Tharagavverug, and I would help you do it… even at the cost of my existence - the sword was now seconds away from melting away completely - I want you to know " said Welleran, as it almost sounded like he was crying; " I could not have asked for a better partner… "

As the treasure of Tharagavverug turned into liquid. Welleran too turned into liquid in Izdubar's hands.

He wept, for he had lost a dear friend. He wept, for he had lost a part of himself. And his weeping could be heard throughout all of Mesopotamia. Even Ishtar shared in the tears of her son.

To Allathurion they hauled the dragon-crocodile. A tall, broad man, who was smith of Allathurion, made a great furnace, and melted Tharagavverug away till only Sacnoth was left gleaming among the ashes. Then he took one of the small eyes that had been chiselled out, and filled an edge on Sacnoth, and gradually the steel eye wore away facet by facet, but ere it was quite gone it had sharpened redoubtably Sacnoth. But the other eye they set in the butt of the hilt, and it gleamed there bluely.
