Calliope found herself within Eternal Egypt.
" Quite beautiful. " said Calliope, finding herself before the Sphinx.
" Quite sandy… " said Orpheus, spitting out sand. Sharur saw an eagle in the distance, but thought nothing of it. The eagle circled the gang, and then landed on the shoulder of the Great Sphinx. The Sphinx's eyes suddenly glowed with life. The eagle had somehow animated the Great Sphinx - a call back to when the Colossus of Rhodes was animated in God of War 2.
Calliope felt the ground beneath her quake.
She turned around to look upon the Great Sphinx towering over her.
" Malaka… "
The Great Sphinx brought down its paw. Calliope managed to dodge, and quickly jumped on Sharur, flying up into the air.
" Phew… "
" I wouldn't celebrate just yet. " said Sharur.
" What do you mean? "
" The Great Sphinx can fly. "
Calliope turned around; to indeed see the Great Sphinx flying straight towards her.
" Malaka! "
Calliope held on, as Sharur flew out of the Sphinx's way. The colossal creature circled around, and was now heading straight towards them.
" Milady, your orders? "
Calliope thought about it.
She then smiled.
" I don't like that smile- "
Orpheus couldn't finish, as Calliope was flying straight towards the ground, with the Sphinx right behind her. She then turned Sharur around, and flew underneath the Sphinx; coming out behind it.
The Great Sphinx turned around to glare at her. That was when Calliope summoned forth: the Nemean Cestus.
Flames burst forth from Sharur, rocketing Calliope towards the Sphinx. Calliope jumped. Pulled back her arm, and then hit the Sphinx directly on the forehead. Sharur picked Calliope up, as the Great Sphinx crash landed on the ground.
Calliope's feet were firmly back on solid Earth.
She whipped away some of the blown up sand. She noticed the silhouette of someone behind her. Calliope pulled back her Nemean Cestus, but quickly halted when she realized who it was.
" Uncle! "
Deimos and Calliope embraced.
" Dear niece- " Deimos noticed the fallen Sphinx; " you are your father's daughter. "
Calliope giggled, as Deimos just smiled.
Deimos had decided to leave Greece long ago.
He traveled to Eternal Egypt, where he settled down. He married an Egyptian woman by the name of: Tiyi.
Together they had a daughter: Shadya.
(I should quickly mention: that Deimos very much sounds like: Abubakar Salim.)
" I hope that you are both well aware: that someone has to pay; for destroying the Great Sphinx. "
Calliope and Deimos both turned around to look upon Horus and Set.
" What's the big deal? " said Calliope, nonchalantly; " it was just a statue. "
" It was over 3000 years old. " said Set, coldly.
Calliope looked at Deimos, who just nodded his head.
" Oh… ops..? "
Set glared at her.
" Surely we can come to an agreement, which does not escalate in bloodshed. " said Deimos.
" Sorry. " said Horus; " our hands are tied. Ra's orders. "
" The eagle-headed god… " said Sharur.
Calliope and Deimos both reached for their weapons, at the same instance that Set was reaching for his.
" Surely! " exclaimed Horus, raising his hand; " there are other means of settling this. "
Calliope and Deimos both looked at Set.
" A set of challenges! " exclaimed Set.
Calliope, Deimos, and Horus all waited for him to elaborate.
" We will compete with one another, and the losers forfeit their lives. Simple, no? "
Deimos and Calliope looked at each other. They then nodded at one another.
There would be three competitions:
Beer drinking.
Swimming.
And then wrestling.
Deimos and Set were sitting before one another, gulping down their 19th beer. Horus was sitting close by, head on table, having passed out after his 12th.
Deimos and Set got ready for their 20th. They both paused; looking upon Calliope gulping down a barrel, whilst being surrounded by several empty barrels.
Set gave up by passing out, as Deimos nodded approvingly, with Orpheus enjoying some beer using a straw.
(Don't ask me where the beer goes.)
We find ourselves at the swimming contest, as Calliope and Horus were neck-and-neck.
Set and Deimos were cheering on their respective niece and nephew. The two of them had already competed, and Set had won.
Calliope's muscles were burning. Horus too seemed to struggle, which is why he saw fit to end the race. Horus blasted past Calliope, winning the swimming challenge.
Horus won, even though some would say that he had used his wings as a means for increased speed.
Finally:
The wrestling bout.
Calliope looked on, as Deimos was struggling against Horus. Everything was tied. Everything depended on this next victory. Horus held nothing back, nor did Deimos. Being a master at Pankration, Deimos could very much hold his own. Despite that… he could not defeat Horus.
" Finish it, nephew! " roared Set.
Calliope held out her hand, Deimos was desperate to tag her in. Horus approached with the intent on finishing matters. Deimos was inches away, till Horus dragged him back by the heel.
Deimos kicked back. Horus blocked with his wing, and then brought down his fist; which was a mistake. Horus had connected, but Deimos endured the pain. He then grabbed Horus by the collar, headbutting the falcon-god straight on the forehead. Horus fell back, landing on his butt.
" No! "(Set)
" Yes! "(Calliope)
Calliope held out her hand, dangerously close to the ledge. Deimos was once again inches away. Horus staggered to his feet; still seeing a few stars. He jumped forward, hoping to grab Deimos.
Horus froze in fear, as Deimos had managed to tag Calliope in. She was in the air, about to dropkick Horus. Calliope's attack had landed; knocking Horus unconscious. She and Deimos had won.
Set loomed over his barely conscious nephew. Set could feel a fury rise with the depths of his soul. He had promised Ra: that he would not act on his need for revenge. For this story takes place after: Set and Horus had dealt with the issue of who should rule Egypt. Horus, obviously, became the chosen ruler. Set had not forgiven him. Not then… and certainly not now.
Set seized the opportunity, conjuring forth a sand scimitar. Horus looked on in horror, as his uncle was about to strike him down. Deimos grabbed hold of Set; holding him like Kratos held Baldur.
" Why?! Why do you even care?! " choked Set, feebly; " you could have just walked away! "
Deimos leaned in close, whispering in Set's ear.
" The cycle ends here. We must be better. Not bitter… Brother - whispered another voice. "
Set's eyes widened; recognizing the voice, Deimos then snapped Set's neck.
The god landed on the ground. A grain of sand landing on his cheek.
" Sand… "
Horus drew near. And said:
" The Lord of the Du'at… awaits. "
There was just one problem… the Sun had seen the death of Set; and the Sun was not pleased…
