A Generous Offer

Adam followed the king down a few corridors until they reached a large set of double doors that opened automatically at the king's presence. He found himself walking into a massive library filled to the brim with books. They made their way to the center where there were a few chairs, couches and desks.

"Have a seat." said the king as he sat down.

Adam sat across from the king and waited for him to speak his mind.

"I would like you to remain the castle for the remaining three years that are left until you head off to school." said the king.

Adam was shocked to hear this as he was preparing himself to be scolded for being too harsh on the princess.

"What will be my function here your Majesty?" Adam asked.

"You will stay and train with Gwen. I am not asking this for free and you have the right to refuse. The condition is that you push Gwen to become stronger and help her with her magic. In return, you will have access to this library, living quarters, and unlimited sparing partners. Are these conditions fair to you?" The king said.

"These conditions are more than fair. I would need consult with my parents first as I am not old enough to make these decisions, but I am sure they will accept." Adam said with surprise on his face.

He hadn't dreamed that he would be able to gain access to the royal library. It was sure to contain detailed information about all subjects of magic and would definitely allow him to progress much faster in terms of knowledge. Sparing partners were a must as well, since he needed to see a variety of fighting styles so that he could hone his own close combat and ranged combat skills.

"Very well. You may return to the party. Enjoy yourself and eat well then get a good nights rest. I would like an answer by the morning." the king said with a smile.

With that said, a butler arrived and led Adam back to the dining hall where food had just been served. He quickly located his parents and went to sit with them just like the rest did. The king arrived shortly after and assumed a seat at the head of the table with his daughter.

"What was that about?" Adam's mother asked.

"We will discuss it later. This isn't the right time nor the place. Let's just enjoy our meal and we will talk about it when we return to our living quarters." Adam said.

His mother just agreed and they went about their business. When dinner was finished, there was a brief round of socializing again and then all the guests returned to their quarters.

"Alright. It's time you came clean." Adam's father said.

"The king invited me to stay in the castle as a tutor to the princess. In return, I will have access to the library and the sparing grounds." Adam stated plainly.

"Did you accept?" his mother asked.

"I didn't accept on account that I wanted to include you both in my decision making. I can't rightfully go against my parents wishes until I myself am an adult anyway." Adam said.

His mother looked at his father for a moment. They seemed to have an entire conversation with their eyes and reached an agreement.

"Accept the offer. There isn't much else that our city can offer you. Our only condition is that you come home and visit us on holidays and be safe." His mother said with a loving look in her eyes.

"If that's the case, then I will go see his Majesty right now and let him know what has been decided." Adam said.

Adam summoned a butler and asked him to show the way to where the king was currently. He had business to discuss with him. After about ten minutes, Adam arrived at the library again where he was allowed to enter and found the king sitting at a desk going over documents.

"Ah, have you already come to a decision?" the king asked.

"Yes your Majesty. I accept your offer and will gladly stay here to help train any children you would like me to." Adam said.

"Great! Then I will have the staff make a permanent space for you to live. I will also have some servants go and pick up your things so you don't have to make the trip again. I'm glad to have you. Be sure to pick anything you would like to read from the library to take with you back to your quarters." the king said.

Adam grinned and nodded. He had already scanned the library and was in the process of having the system divide up the books into sections so that he could gain the knowledge he wants first and worry about the rest after. He could only think how this partnership was more beneficial to him than the king, but he definitely was going to be a good three years.
