My name is Asher.
It's been a good few weeks since Rudif and I were taken into the mansion of Patricia and Rowan. We were given the opportunity to explore the mansion the day after I arrived with Calamno. It turns out that the rabbit was also here, I met her while I was touring the mansion with Rowan. She jumped out of nowhere and rested herself on top of my head.
Rudif had told me that it was Rowan who found him running with the rabbit in his arms.
We each have our own rooms, excluding the rabbit who lives with me. After learning about how I awakened the ability to use magic at such an early age, Patricia and Rowan formally introduced themselves.
Patricia Delevoid, daughter of one of The Twelve Duke's, Calamno Delevoid. She told me she is a Sorcerer and has been learning from her father ever since she was young because she was talented in magic. The Delevoid's are actually royalty in the Dark Elf Kingdom, Naskac. Currently, their mansion is near the edges of Naskac's borders. Patricia and Calamno are similar in that they both apparently hate politics.
Rowan Sylmen Delevoid, married Patricia and also acquired the Delevoid name. He met Patricia when they went to the academy together in Naskac. Sylmen's are the last name of commoners but Rowan has frightening talent and worked his way up. He's officially a hunter but he can also use magic alongside his hunting skills. He seems to like talking to me a lot since most of the days I would be hanging around Rowan. He also likes martial arts, which explains his fashion.
Actually, today I'm going to be visiting the city with Rowan.
"I have a package to pick up at the Union."
"The Union?", I asked.
Rowan nodded his head, "The Adventurer's Union. They are in charge of shipping, trading, and handing out commissions. They buy anything and usually sell items as well. They're so incorporated into the world that most places have an Adventurer's Hall, which is basically where they operate."
"Wouldn't I get discriminated against for being a human?"
Rowan paused in the hallway, "Don't worry. Patricia and I alone can challenge the entire nation's might."
"That's reassuring. Will Rudif and the rabbit be tagging along?"
Rowan shook his head and pointed outside the window. I saw Patricia standing while Rudif sat on the grass. Seems like he was taking lessons from Patricia.
"Patricia will be teaching Rudif everything he needs to know in order to get his revenge. We're not too fond of slaves either, but we can't really do much without upsetting her brother."
"Patricia's brother? Why would doing anything upset her brother?"
Rowan chuckled, "It seems I forgot to tell you. Her brother is the King of Naskac. Father, was the previous ruler. The slave corporations disguise themselves by running a legitimate business. We can't completely ruin the economy of a nation just because of a person's grudge. By putting a hundred or so people who run the slave market behind bars, we are also effectively putting hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians into starvation."
"I see, so they have enough to make that much of an impact."
Rowan smiled, "This is why I like talking to you. You're able to grasp concepts and mature topics that others can not. Anyways, let's go."
I followed Rowan and unexpectedly, we barged into Calamno's room where he was simply creating some sort of mixture. Was he trying to create some sort of potion? The room smelt acidic.
"Father~"
Calamno was standing by his desk with a strange contraption that transported different colored liquids from one flask to another. He turned around and sighed.
"You-"
"Come on, please~"
Rowan was like a child begging for some toy he saw.
Calamno sighed.
"Fine."
Rowan gave me a fist bump. I was confused but I returned his gesture. He held my shoulder and we walked closer to Calamno.
"What are you doing?"
I asked.
Rowan smiled, "Transportation to get to Naskac. It's quite far if we walk there."
Calamno raised his right hand at us and spread his fingers. A runic magic circle of many complex symbols appeared below where Rowan and I stood.
"Teleport."
Was the last thing I heard Calamno say before I found myself in a busy street full of Dark Elves. It was just like the busy towns that were in the Empire. Markets and stalls for various goods were set up at the side and people with their families strolled around. No one seemed to say anything about a human child being here.
Rowan spread his arms out, "Asher, this is Naskac."
"I can tell..."
"Hey, come on, I had to make it a bit dramatic don't you think? You act as you've already seen things like this countless times."
I mean, Rowan is not wrong. Many times I saw familiar scenes like this. Flourishing kingdoms and their citizens enjoying their day. I hate how I was ordered to make waste of those kingdoms all for the sake of my corrupted king. That stupid contract. Speaking as if letting a kingdom stay independent from us would bring harm to him.
I'm glad I got this new chance at life. I'll explore things I haven't gotten to before.
"Can I try some of that food?"
I pointed to some exotic meat getting skewered. A small crowd gathered there to order.
Rowan smiled.
"You have good taste. That's magical beast meat. When beasts have mana inside them, their meat tastes extraordinary."
We lined up and Rowan bought the meat skewer. When I tried it, it just tasted like pork to me. Nothing special about it. Perhaps, there wasn't enough mana concentrated in the meat to make any real difference to what I feel.
Though, I learned something about the currency system. They are more advanced than in my previous life when we still used coins. Here, they encourage rectangular pieces of paper ranging from bronze, silver, or gold color variants. Where bronze bills that sum up to 100 are equivalent to one silver. The same thing can be said for silver and gold bills. I saw that the bills have a special rune engraved onto them, and they are also numbered.
Rowan brought me to a huge tavern. On the sign that hung right outside the door is presumably the Adventurer's Union's logo. It was a fishing rod and a dagger with a circular shield behind them as the background.
Rowan opened the door and I saw a familiar scene. Wooden circular tables with wooden restaurant chairs. Various different "adventurers" sat in their respective groups at each table. Some were eating food and drinking alcohol.
Seriously, this early in the morning?
Then I took that back because the one drinking had distinct characteristics of a Dwarf. I wonder what a Dwarf was doing here. There were some other races as well, mostly Dwarves, Dark Elves, regular Elves, and even some horned creatures. Not a single human though.
Rowan walked in and went up to the front desk where an alluring Elven girl with fair white skin sat. She had straight long bright green hair and circular glasses. She seemed focused as she was muttering to herself while scanning through a report of some sort.
Being the cheerful and kind person Rowan is, he screamed her name.
"WHAT'S UP, LINDA!!"
The Elf Receptionist jumped.
"Son of a motherfu- Oh! Rowan!"
The adventurers laughed while drinking. Rowan turned around and waved. He called out a few names and gave a short greeting to each. He said many things when the other adventurers asked what he was doing here.
"Good to see you too!"
"You got bigger since the last time I saw you, haha!"
"Nothing, just picking up a package!"
"Let's get wasted another time there's a beast raid!"
The other adventurers went back to their own business. While Linda adjusted her golden pin of the Union's symbol on her uniform. Now that she was standing up, I could tell what she was wearing. She has a silver jabot with a black vest that covered a white dress shirt inside. She also seemed to be wearing a long black skirt that wrapped tightly.
"Here for your...lunch?"
Rowan chuckled, "Linda, do you think that's the case?"
The receptionist adjusted her glasses. She put aside her report and lowered herself to open some sort of cabinet and grabbed a large book. She flipped through many pages that were filled to the brim with text, somewhere near the middle of the large book was a page that was only half-filled. She scanned the page and pointed at an entry near the end of the book.
"Rowan Sylmen Delevoid's package arrived a few hours ago today morning."
"Bingo~"
"I'll dial someone to grab that for you."
Linda put her palm on some transparent white orb, it started to glow a faint hue of blue.
"Can I have someone bring over crate BHX10? It should be placed near the imported goods from Regna."
A voice replied, "On it."
Linda smiled at Rowan. I took this chance to get as much information as possible.
"Excuse me, pretty lady?"
Indeed, the pretty lady looked over the desk to see a child talking to her. Seems like she already fell for my bait.
"Awh~ Is this your kid, Rowan? He's adorable!"
I know, I am adorable. I guess this is one of the benefits of being a child. I don't have to use any fancy spells to alter my voice or appearance.
Rowan denied Linda's presumption, "Not at all. Patricia and I are taking care of some guests. This is Asher. Asher, this is Linda."
"Hi, Linda!"
"Hi, Asher! I am a receptionist at the Adventurer's Union, please don't be afraid to ask me anything~"
Just what I wanted to hear.
"Can you tell me about the services the Adventurer's Union provides?"
Rowan chuckled while scratching his chin, "Interested, kid?"
I nodded and Linda explained to me with no hesitation. I like these kinds of people, they don't question your actions.
"Certainly! At the AU we offer a wide variety of services. One of the most frequented services is issuing a license! This allows individuals to cross over other nations or countries, the AU operates in almost every city in the world!"
Now that's interesting. In my previous world, we didn't have any licenses. To cross over to other countries, you could simply just walk in after an inspection by some guards.
This small bit of information already provided me with enough data to conclude that this Earth Copy is most definitely superior compared to the one I came from. The Adventurer's Union is most likely one of the top organizations that have this much influence.
