The sun had come to set, leaving the sky with its orangy rays. It was beautiful and mellow to the eyes. Stunning, that makes one couldn't help but stare at it. Yet one lady, was staring at it with tears running down her cheeks, helplessness being transparent on her pair of almond eyes.
Earlier today, she was badly scolded for being so stubborn and willful still going to the city despite how the elders discouraged her. For them, such a move was only bold and stupid, nothing more.
The elders of her village believed that it was useless asking for help in the city, no one was kind-hearted enough to help a broke lady even with her charming looks. The probability of being helped was indeed not close to nil but the elders sounded so certain that by the time she came back with a helper, her parents would be already dead. Even the village chief sounded sure of that too.
"Gorgia, even if your parents will inevitably die. They will do a great contribution of saving the village. I even salute to their willingness of doing such a hearoic deed. Don't worry, when they are gone, we will not disappoint your parents and take good care of you."
But Gorgia, she still held on hope. She do believed on her parents words. There should still be kind-hearted people out there, who wouldn't hesitate to extend help to someone in need.
She strongly shook her head. "No, there should be another way of solving this problem of the village. I will return with te solution."
She added sounding firmly. "It is not necessary to sacrifice lives just for some to survive."
"Fine! Leave and witness how cruel the world, yourself! Instead of staying here and have a proper farewell to your parents until their last breath, you choose to go away! Don't blame me if you can't even see your parents' corpses when you come back!"
In the end, she still choose to leave. She was certain that staying there without doing anything wouldn't change a thing. It was only equivalent to waiting for her parents' death. And she couldn't bear to accept that! No! Her parents shouldn't die! There's no way on earth she would let that happen!
She was resolute at that time, that she would do anything to save them even of it cost her life.
But when she entered the adventurer's guild, she was badly accommodated. Never did she expected that it was this bad.
"You say you will do anything?" An adventurer looked at her from head to toe.
The adventurer smirked. "Not bad, you are indeed worth the time. How about spend the night with me first and I think about it after?" Then his brow raised up and down.
Another adventurer, a bulky one chuckled. "Young lady, don't even try to consider it. After deflowering you, that bastard wouldn't surely help you. He can't even deal with an Early Level 3 beast what more a Level 5 Razorback. Don't be fooled by such a weakling." Then the whole guild laughed in chorus.
"You! Hmp!"
Gorgia looked at the bulky adventurer who was enjoying his drink. She then asked, "How about you, can you help me Mr. Adventurer?"
The bulky adventurer sighed and answered, "I might be easily able to deal with a Level 3 beast but a Level 5 beast is still way out of my league. I have the intention to help but I wouldn't be of help anyway, so it is useless."
"Hey you there! I know you can handle this mission. Why not help the poor lady?"
A man sneered. "Just like what you have said, she's poor. Why would I help her? I can't get anything in return. Killing a Level 5 beast even meant I can get more women as beautiful as her."
"Such a scumbag. You dare act arrogant when you're not even a tip of an iceberg to Black's level."
The man rolled his eyes. "Say whatever you want loser."
"Young lady, I am sorry, I can't help you. Still, I hope you find someone more capable." Then the bulky adventurer's attention was back on his drink.
With that, Gogia weakly left the city's adventurers' guild branch. Her shoulders we're down and her eyes were bleak.
"I am penniless. No one wanted to accept my task. How heartless of those adventurer outweighing lives to money."
"Father and mother always tells me about a bunch of good people out there yet in the end I found no one wanting to help me in this venture." Tears were streaming down her eyes continuously.
She clenched her fists, while her voice was shaking. "Father and mother..."
"If... If I couldn't come back with help tommorow. I couldn't see them anymore."
"I am left with no choice but to meet this mysterious adventurer." She stood up from sitting on the rough ground. As if she have found her resolve, she wiped those tears away with the back of her hand while the other was holding a thick yellow paper.
She then tried to compose herself and took a deep breath.
Shortly after, a middle-aged woman came to her direction. She unhesitatingly stepped forward and then asked. "Excuse me madam, can I ask you where Klent building is?"
The woman seemed surprised. "Are you perhaps going to request for a task?"
"Ah, yes." She softly answered.
The woman gave her a knowing look. Then she eyed at her from head to toe as if inspecting her. "Well, you look passable. I just hope you'll have no regrets after going there."
The woman then added, "Anyway, just walk straight from here, it was located there."
Without waiting for her respond, the woman left with those last words.
Though hesitation seemed to occupy her eyes for a second, but she instantly shrugged it off and firmly walked into the direction the woman pointed at. One could tell how determined the young lady was, at the moment.
...
"Sir Black! Sir Black!" After Cherom entered through the secret door, the first thing he had heard was a very loud noise, as if someone wanted to break something. Then he found out, it was his office door being bombarded with pretty loud knocks.
Looking at his wooden door's condition, it seemed like Andres was already knocking it for who knew how long as it already looked like it should break anytime.
Under his hood, Cherom's brows furrowed, he found it really annoying. Then he decided to open the door quick. "What is it? What's with the hurry?"
"Thank goodness, you're already here. Sir Black, there is someone who needs your help."
Hearing his word, Cherom didn't hesitate and he went straight to the waiting room. There, he found someone who looked exhausted and melancholic. There was a mark of tears on her obviously sullen eyes and worry was written all over her beautiful face.
Under his mask, pity was painted on Cherom's face. There was an instant urge in him to help and lend his hand to such a fragile and helpless girl before him. Even from a distance, he could tell that she's suffering.
When the lady saw him, she instantly went on her knees with her head hitting on the cold floor.
"Please help me! Help me Mr. Adventurer."
In the next second, as if a left out faucet, tears streamed down the flooring.
"I came here even if the elders said it will all turn futile. No one would likely accept my request being penniless, but I wanted to try and do everything I can as I don't want to lose my most beloved people in my life."
"If I came back without trying my hardest, it is also as if accepting my parents' death. And if I came back without help, I, I...
"I cannot see my parents anymore, ever again!"
She was sniffing hard, and her voice cracked. "So please, I beg you Mr. Adventurer. Please have pity on me. I am pathetic. Please... "
"I, I can do anything return. I can be your servant for a lifetime. Whatever you say... I will do anything if you would only save my parents."
"Sir Black, since she had nothing to pay, then it should be the time for you to provide service to the less privileged. Since she got the old flier, I think it's fate." Andres whispered at him.
Cherom's eyebrows met and he stared intently at him, causing for Andres to distance himself and zip his mouth.
"Get up."
"No! Please hear me out! You are my last resort! I will even sleep tonight with you! Just please save my parents!"
Hearing those words, both Cherom and Andres were stunned.
'What the heck! I didn't even asked for that!'
Noticing Andres' amazed and worshipping gaze at him, Cherom released a cold aura, feeling aggravated.
'What a despicable assistant. Do you think that I would really take advantage of such a pitiful lady? I am unlike you.'
But Andres gave him a meaningful look as if saying, 'That's why you have to be clear with your words Sir Black to avoid being wonderfully misunderstood.'
Cherom just rolled his eyes at him, even so, his assistant was quite correct.
"I mean, get up and let us discuss about the task. I cannot properly discuss it with you with your position."
"Ah, yes!"
Just then, Cherom guided her to his office to make everything formal.
"What is the level difficulty of the task?" He asked.
"C difficulty."
"The description?"
"In our village, a Red-skinned Razorback was rampaging every other day. On the very first day people were killed but as it goes on, our village chief observed that the beast was only eating 2 to 4 people and then it would call it a day. The village chief also said that reinforcement will arrive within 2 weeks and we just need to hold on until that time."
"But it also means sacrificing 28 people until that day comes, how brutal way of survival."
The lady slowly nodded, and her eyes were starting to well up tears again.
Cherom immediately made the decision.
"I accept your task."
Her eyes lit up. Her originally pale face was finally brightened up. "Really? Are you for certain Mr. Adventurer? I will remember this for the rest of my life." In the next second, she went down on her knees and bowed at Cherom sincerely.
Cherom let her be this time as it was her way of thanking him and he knew she wouldn't be still if he ever stopped her from doing so.
"It's enough. Please get up now."
"Really. Thank you."
"The job isn't done yet. Please reserve it for later."
"Ah, yes." She said with a smile.
"But what about the said reward chart?"
"Just forget about it."
When Cherom looked at Andres, the latter already plastered his most beautiful smile, as if fully knowing well his role as a subordinate who made some mistake and was trying to appease his boss. Cherom could only sigh with a little irritation still present.
After considering things for a matter of time, Cherommade his plans.
"Andres, you should come with me."
Andres was a little surprised and there was an apparent reluctantance on his face. "I still have a few tickets to collect and there's no one to be left here Sir Black."
Cherom only answered him coldly. "I don't care about that."
He had a reason for that, a big one at that. As a man, who was a bit socially awkward, and who sort of distancing himself to women, he wouldn't feel comfortable if he would travel alone with a girl. It would be better with Andres' presence.
"But Sir Black, two days later is already your designated duel date. I need to prepare for that."
"Shut it. Why would you prepare much when I'm the one who'll be fighting."
"But I need to prepare a huge bet for such a grand occasion."
"Forget about money. We're saving lives first."
Andres pouted and resignedly said. "Yes, Sir Black."
"Good. Wait for me for awhile, I just have to go somewhere. It will be quick."
