“Anyway, I’m Cove Wilder Hernandez,” he introduced himself.
I just looked at him.
“And you are?” I sighed with his question.
“It was written on the paper.” He was confused with my answer.
“I asked for your name then you’ll answer me it was written on the paper? You’re hopeless,” I stopped to face him, “Now, you’re mad again.”
“You know for starters you act like we’re friends. You don’t even know my name but the way you talk to me feels like we’ve known each other for a long time.”
“How do you want me to talk to you? Should I rather ask for your favorite color? Favorite food? I bet you’d be creeped out.”
He has a point though.
“My name was written on the paper and you were the one who passed it,” I retorted and started walking.
“You should have made it clear the first time.” This guy was really full of sunshine. “I wasn’t able to see your name because if it’s not obvious, I was in a hurry to catch up to you. So, what’s your name?”
“Kirsche,” I said in order to shut him up.
“That’s it? You don’t have a surname?” I closed my eyes in irritation.
He just wouldn’t stop. I don’t even know if he’s just doing this to piss me off.
“Kirsche Artemis Sanchez. Are you satisfied now? So annoying.”
He laughed, again. He’s one heck of a happy human being.
“That is how you answer a question; complete answer. You better speak more or else you’ll have a bad breath,” he teased. What a lame person.
“Whatever,” and I rolled my eyes at him for the nth time this day.
We spend our time in front of the school’s chapel; they have cemented tables and chairs here. And the atmosphere here was very serene and refreshing. That’s one thing I loved about our University, it has lots of trees and plants creating a cool and fresh vibe.
I was eating and studying at the same time when I noticed that the guy in front of me kept on glancing towards my direction. He wasn’t saying anything or being annoying so I just let him be.
“You really won’t talk to me? The moment we got here you were studying and until now you’re still studying. Let’s just talk,” he finally speaks up when he can’t take it anymore.
“And what should we talk about?”
“Anything, you’re so boring.” I know he doesn’t mean to offend me but I am offended.
“Excuse me?” I told him with my forehead creased in irritation as I felt my blood boiling.
“Why? Are you going to pass through?” It’s impossible to have a serious conversation with him.
“You know if you find my company boring then go and find someone else who can entertain you better. I never asked you to come with me in the first place.”
I knew he knows that I was annoyed with what he said because his eyes widened when I finished ranting.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you when I said you’re boring. I was just stating facts,” he rebutted.
“Well, obviously, I am offended.”
“Then you shouldn’t be. I just said that because you weren’t talking to me and you just kept on reading and reading.”
I seriously don’t understand why we’re suddenly arguing and I don’t understand why I am offended with what he said. I know that my personality is kind of boring, I am well aware of that.
“You know what? This is nonsense. Just go and find other company.”
I was about to resume doing my thing when I noticed that he has that ghost of smile on his lips.
“Why are you smiling?” and his smile even grew wider the moment I asked.
“Didn’t you notice? You said more than one word. We were actually having a conversation,” he said, amazed, like it was some kind of achievement.
“Arguing is what we had moments ago.”
“I don’t care what you call it. It was the fact that you answered me with more than one word,” he happily replied.
“What is it with you and my one-word reply?”
“I don’t know. I think it’s just fascinating to make you engage in a conversation with you replying a sentence and not just a word.” He shrugged after his long explanation.
“Whatever. I’ll go ahead since it’s already lab time” and I got all my things and left him.
I saw how he laughed as he shook his head. He does that like twice this day already.
“Wait up!” he told me as ran towards my direction.
I just ignore him because truth be told, he’s draining my energy. We still have six hours for laboratory time and honestly, I don’t really like the idea of six whole straight hours. It’s extremely draining. Since the first year that was the set-up for our laboratory time.
“Since this is just the first day of this semester, we won’t be having any experiment as of today.” Thank, God! “But we will still discuss the do’s and don’ts inside the laboratory. I know that this has been discussed with you in your first year but we were asked to discuss it once again since the incident last year,” said our prof like it was his opening speech.
Another boring hour to bear.
“We should’ve just cut classes. It’s just the first day of class,” whispered the demon personified behind me.
“You know if you want to cut classes then please do so. Stop recruiting me as one of your followers.”
“What? I’m just saying and c’mon it’s true! We already knew those kinds of stuff and who cares about laboratory rules anyway”
“I care!” I shouted causing all heads to turn in my direction.
“Yes, miss? Do you have any questions?” asked my professor.
“None, Ma’am. I’m sorry.” I shot dagger looks at Cove and he in return, just made weird faces at me.
“That would be all. I know it’s still early to dismiss you but I’ll dismiss you guys anyway. Have a great week. Goodbye!” and my classmates hurriedly exited the room.
That discussion took three hours. I was bored to death and though I hate to admit it, Cove’s bubbliness helped me through those three boring hours. He kept me entertained.
“Hey, Kirsh.” And in a blink of an eye, I turned to Cove because of the way he addressed me.
“What did you call me?” he looked at me confused.
“Kirsh?” he answered, unsure.
“We’re not close so don’t call me by that name” he still looked confused.
“Okay? Then I’ll just call you Artemis,” he answered with a smile.
His retort pissed me off. I just want to toss him outside the earth.
“Never call me that!” I shouted at him.
“Whoa, chill. You don’t want me to call you Kirsh but then you also don’t want to be address as Artemis? How should I call you then?”
“Just call me Sanchez since we’re not close,” I dismissively replied and left him.
“Whatever you say, Sanchez! I’ll see you tomorrow!” he happily shouted.
