Chapter Three

Chapter 3

A huge silence reigned after that. I didn't dare to say anything. I was afraid that my words will hurt him, I was conscious with every word I would say because I was too scared to hurt him.

All those years that he stands as a brother to me even though no one told him to be a brother to me.

I was grateful to have him by my side. He showed me that blood is not a symbol for being part of a family, It is the will of being part of it that matters.

"Thank you."

"Mmm, for what?"

"For being a family to me when no else did," I said as I took my plate and wash it.

I went straight to my room and laid down. That conversation with River was the most serious one that we had for 15 years.

We do nothing but to do stupid things in the town, run until we reach the hill, and look down on our kingdom.

I chuckled when I remembered something. That time when O was 15 years old and River was 17, we would always run to the hill and just sit there until sunset. He forgot to bring the food and he just noticed it when we reach the top, so he needed to go back and climb the hill again.

But then a glass broke from downstairs and I'm sure River was still there. I heard something like the table cracks and the plates being thrown away.

I slowly went down to check on River. He must have been hurt. Few more steps but I already saw shattered plates all over the floor, there were also bloodstains.

"River?" I called his name, I can feel that my heart is beating fast and I am starting to get sweaty.

I tried to avoid the shattered pieces of the plates but some of them were so little that I can't even see them so I end up stepping on some.

Bloody footprints were left on the floor but I already freeze my wounds to stop the blood from flowing.

"River!" I shouted as I saw how River was being sucked through the black shadow.

I tried to hold his hand before the portal closes but I was too late. I didn't have the chance to save him.

"River! No! Not you!" I cried loudly. Tears started to race from my eyes down to my cheeks.

I failed to save my only family!

What should I do?!!

Fuck! What should I do!

Due to frustration, I fell to the ground. I couldn't think well about what steps I should do next.

I stared blankly at the spot where the black shadow closes, To open the portal, a person must have the ability to do it. The black shadow warriors are my suspect because they are the only ones who can do a black shadow portal.

Why would they take him? Do they need something from River? If yes, then what is it?

Then a thought came to my mind...

If they have the power to open a portal without being caught, Then I need enough power to save River, Power...

THAT'S IT! THE ACADEMY!

I immediately run towards the forest where the entrance of the academy is located.

It was night and there were no lights except for the bright moon. I wipe off my tears while running through the woods.

I can now see the huge black and gold gate of the academy from afar. I am also aware that anyone who will try to enter the Academy's premises will be punished.

But I was left with no choice!

And tonight, I have decided.

I will accept his offer and study there.

At the Ingram Academy, the school for elites elemental users.

"Whoever you are! Stop!" I heard one of the guards shouted at me. Warning me on what I about to do.

The strong shade of light started to blind my vision. I stopped running as I reach the front gate.

"Last warning!"

I fell on my knees.

And all I did was to beg.

"I-i need t-to s-ee the h-headmaster.." The laughter started to reign in my ears. Why would a girl like me look for a person with the highest position?

The guns were all stuck aiming at me.

"You disobeyed the rules of the academy!" He Shouted.

"I k-know! I'm just desperate!" I sound so desperate but who cares, All I think about now was River.

" Do you have any idea on what we do to those who disobeyed the orders from above?" One of them asked me.

I shook my head as an answer to the question.

"Oh, you will." He let out a devil laugh and I closed my eyes as I was about to get hit by a gun but I didn't felt anything painful that touched my body. Instead I saw a shadow of a guy standing a little bit far from the gate inside the academy

"What's happening here?" He asked and slowly walk towards us. I felt a foreign sensation when he was already near me.

"Lorcan." The guards said.

The guards look down as if they are giving him a courtesy. No one dared to look at him except me. I am trying to examine him by observing his moves and words.

"This woman tried to enter the Academy's property, She clearly disobeyed a forbidden rule."

"I get it, but why do you have to hit her?"He asked them but no one even dared to answer. He sighs as a sign of disappointment.

"The academy will not tolerate what this woman did but none of us has the right to hurt one's body."

He said and turned his back away from us. He started to walk back to where he came from but he stopped again.

"What are you boys waiting to do? Bring her to the judgment room!" His hands were on his back, waiting for us to move. He looked at me with his cold stare.

Looks like he's judging me from his position but lucky for you, I'm desperate for help.

Hmm...
