Chapter 8

I slowly walk towards it. I don't know why I'm doing it but something's telling me to walk towards it. I grab the vase that was placed beside my bed for design.

I almost scream when someone walks out of it. It was too bright that I couldn't see who went out. I was about to strike the vase that I was holding when the person grabbed my hand, pulled me towards him, and covered my mouth.

My eyes widened when I realized who it was.

"Ssh! it's me, Lorcan." He said, covering my mouth with his palm. My heart was beating so fast but he held my hand and pulled me towards the portal.

I felt something like a wind passing through me. It feels like I was being dragged so I had to close my eyes and when I opened them, we were already in the forest.

This forest is still part of the academy because I could still see the building from this location. I looked around and examined everything that is in front of me.

It wasn't an ordinary forest. There were lots of fireflies that lit up this part of the forest. We were in a field of grass in the middle of the forest and from here, stars were too visible and as well as the moon.

"Why are we here Lorcan? Why did you bring me here? And why did you went into my room, you were not allowed there?"

"My father wanted me to train you so he had to shut down the elemental barrier for me to use my energy portal and get you. All for one minute only."

"Elemental barrier?"

"The thing that prevents us from using our elements inside the academy. It will automatically electrocute your body if you were detected to be using your power."

Now, I understand why I felt electricity on my body when I imagined strangling the woman's neck. His mother’s neck.

"Some of us were impressed that you survive the barrier's punishment."

"So, do I have to be thankful because I survive but then will be battling against all of you?" I rolled my eyes and sat down on the grass.

"That is why we are here. To train." He said and without having a second thought, he throws a dagger at me.

I was shocked but a second dagger is coming at me with too much speed. I did a back lift to dodge it. I look at him with my eyes ranging.

“Why do you have to do that?” I shouted at him.

“Do you ask your opponents the same question you asked me?” He said and put his hand in his pocket. He looked so sure about training me that I felt a little scared of him.

He was serious about training me so I have to be serious too. I need this so I can survive the battle and then save River.

I was confused when a small circle of light was forming between his hands. I took the chance of getting the dagger he threw a while ago.

He aims the ball of light at my position and let go of it. It was small when he let go but why does it get bigger as it approaches me?

I was caught off guard so I crossed my arms in front of me, closed my eyes, and waited for it to hit me but I didn't felt anything which made me confuse. I opened my eyes and saw that I was inside a bubble-like circle. It was transparent so I can even saw Lorcan smiled.

"The first level of your power was to produce snowball but you can do better than that. Aside from the levels of it, we will have different abilities using our elements."

He said and told me to come near him. The ice bubble suddenly disappeared when I tried to move. The shield becomes a shield for me to protect me from Lorcan’s attack. A shield out of my ice.

He held my hand and my palm was facing the sky.

"Try to think of an Ice, imagined that you were touching them and you will feel a sensation running from your veins and coming out of your hand."

When said coming out of your hand, I saw a white snow-like thing forming on my hand. My eyes widened when Ice suddenly went out of it and it's getting bigger, I can't stop it.

"Control it, if you can release them, you can stop it too. Just focus." He said as he tried to calm me down. Maybe I looked a bit nervous when he looked at me.

I tried to focus and think that I'm just turning off a faucet and my ice suddenly stopped from flowing out of my hand.

"See? If you mastered releasing and stopping the ice from your hand, it will be easier for you to control it."

I nodded, trying to insert all his reminders on my mind. I need to remember everything and every little detail that I have to know.

I continued practicing releasing and stopping. From time to time, I can feel that I can control it a little bit. Releasing and stopping ice out of my hand takes less time than the first time I did it.

"Don't stop until you can master it. You don't have enough time to do it as soon as possible."

He said while leaning on a tree as he examined how am I doing. He never looked somewhere else. I know because I could see him in my peripheral view. The way his arms were crossed, his eyes staring at my soul and his words has a huge effect on me.

After trying and practicing, I was able to release ice and stopped it in no time. The speed of my controls was like as fast as when you tap a switch and lights will open.

"Impressive. Now try to make something out of ice." He said when he saw me laid down on the grass. I felt tired already, I didn't have enough sleep and I wasn't able to eat for dinner. I didn't have money to buy food. I don't even have the chance to talk about it with the headmaster.

"How can I do that? It sounds impossible." I said.

"You already know how to enhance a weapon. For example, adding sharpness to the blades. If you already knew the basics you will learn to do what you think is impossible too."

Even when my body was giving up, I decided to get up and tried doing it. Lorcan made that interesting so I had this urge to learn it. If this was part of the basics of my power what more can I do?

"Woah!" I said when Lorcan formed a bow and arrow out of energy and thunder. He can control both so he can make them work together. No doubt he's the son of the Headmaster.

Even the arrows were like yellow and were surrounded by thunder-like things. He shot it on the grass and a fire started. I was startled but I was able to release ice and eradicate the fire.

He taught me how to form a weapon out of ice and the first weapon was a dagger. He told me to think of a weapon that I think I can say that I mastered already so I told him, it was a dagger.

He told me to always remember how I can release and stop ice from coming out, in this way I could apply the same process on forming weapons.

"Focus, and feel the sensation running through your veins. Think of that weapon and with great practice and motivation, you will produce a dagger."

I did what he was telling me to do and slowly, I could form a dagger out of my ice. It's like summoning real weapons but in this situation, I was making them using ice.

I repeated the process again and again until I can already make a spear out of ice. It still took me much time to form so I need to make my forming faster. Lorcan said that inside the battlefield, slowness will be a hindrance to win so I have to be faster if I want to survive.

“Again!”

“Again.”

I kept on repeating and repeating the same routine I was doing to lessen the time that I will be needing to produce it. I felt tired and fell on the floor when my training ended.

Lorcan opened the portal again that will transfer me to my room. I waved at him before I entered the portal. Looking at him slowly forming the portal, makes me think that it was too easy for him to create a portal. Hmph!

"Thank you," I said and smiled before the portal closes.
