I blinked innocently at Mikee’s grim expression, but deep inside, I was snickering.

“I had followed the lead leading to the vice-mayor because there’s supposedly an affair going on between him and Samantha. That’s how I found the cabin in the woods and the decaying corpse yesterday. Before returning, Mikee had told me that a witness had come forward, named Sarah Sriracha, saying that she had seen Samantha had been sighted a few days before in a restaurant. I wasn’t sure if it was a real witness or just someone who was paid to throw us off track. Since there were also so-called ‘witness’ Mikee had interviewed before, and those turned out to be either mistaken identities or just some miscreants deliberately messing around with the investigation. Still, considering her immediate withdrawal from the station, we thought it was worth looking into the new witness.”
