CHAPTER SEVEN

The Devil's Assistant

Theme Song - Meant To Be by Bebe Rexha ft Florida Georgia Line

"What!?" I shrieked at Ms Higgins request. Yeah, request. The lady wasn't ordering me like before. She was begging. Although it pleased me knowing she had some courtesy,I couldn't agree even if my life depended on this. She was begging me to be the devil's assistant. The cocky arsehole called Hilton!

"Regina, this is a plea. I'm begging you, please. My career is at stake here. And hope you do know anyone sacked from this company would find it difficult getting another job? Please,Regina" Wow,this should be serious if she's calling me by my first name.

"I just wanna know why you're like this though. Why's your career at stake and why do I have to be his assistant in order to save it?" She sighed.

"That was his only condition. It's a very embarrassing story,Regina. I'd rather not tell. Just do this one favour for me. And look on the bright side, you'll be getting paid."

"This is insane. Mr Hilton is a jerk. I wouldn't last a month under his neck. Aside that,if I'm to agree to this madness,do I get a private office?"

"I don't know about that. He'll be the one to say if you agree. But please agree,Regina"

"Could you please call me Miss Worth?" I smiled tightly. She was being irritatingly sweet unlike her cold aura.

"I'm sorry." She bowed her head and instantaneously,I felt bad for being harsh. "Could you please do this for me?" She sounded weary.

Now what does Nana always say? If someone is in dire need and your excuse to refuse helping is plain silly,do the right thing. Help them.

Pros

Help Ms Higgins out of her career threatening situation. Get employed. Mark two things off my wish list.

Cons

Endure a cocky ass.

I looked at her for a minute or two before surrendering in a sigh.

"How much am I being paid?"

"£500" She quickly replied. I gaped.

The top floor had this different aura. Maybe because it hosted a very narcissistic man. I'd give him the thumbs up though. The man was stylish. Everything was glassy. The tiles were glassy. The two chandeliers shimmering with gold lighting were too. The two doors to the office in the first hallway and the private office at the adjoining hallway were not though. It felt weird being here again but I better get used to it since I'd be here everyday now.

The wallpaper was a shinning gold and the door handles were embroidered with a minute gold. Oh yeah,I noticed the smallest of details. Really observant.

The open office before the adjoining hallway had an occupant now. He was a well dressed blonde with cool grey eyes. He smiled at me almost in recognition.

"Miss Worth?" I nodded. The smile grew,it was so contagious. "Mr Hilton is waiting for you"

"Alright. Urm,I do hope I didn't make you lose your job" I muttered in a small voice.

"Pardon?" He frowned beautifully.

"I'm his new assistant" I offered.

"Oh,really? I wasn't told anything of such. I was only instructed to usher you in with my best smile." He smiled again. "Does that mean I'll be losing my job?"

"Oh boy. I'm so sorry. I'm just...damn,I hate this company and then Mr Hilton acting all-"

"Save the gossip for another day,Miss Worth" I gulped. Mr Hilton stood feet away from us. The secretary's face was drawn into a smirk. I stood confused. "And Luke, mind your goddamn business" The secretary gave him the two fingers salute.

After he left,I gave Luke a tight lipped smile before following.

I closed the door to his office after entering.

"You agreed to the offer. That's wise" He walked towards his throne a.k.a desk.

"Not fully, sir. I don't think I'd be your assistant if two conditions are not met" He laughed smoothly.

"Listen,Miss Worth. I'm your employer. I make the rules, you follow. If you don't like them, you leave my office quietly."

"I'm only doing this for Ms Higgins" He glanced at me for a brief moment before carrying his gaze back to his expensive watch. "Nevertheless,I'm going to state the rules. One,you won't relieve your secretary of his job and two,I get to know the reason Ms Higgins was terrified."

A satisfied smile appeared on his lips. "She deserved that. Firstly,Luke is my backbone so I can't cut him off. And simply put,Sarah is a thief." Sarah was Ms Higgins obviously. I shook my head in disbelief. "Now I have two conditions for you as my new assistant."

"What's that?" I asked in a bit of fright.

"One,you get to smile around me. Not a single frown. And two,you get to obey me. Always." Like I wouldn't. He was my boss after all unless...I gasped.

"I'd obey all work related orders sir." What a creep. What if he wanted to do something bad and... I snapped out of it willingly avoiding my imaginations of different scenarios.

Looking back at him,I was granted an amused smile which upturned immediately he noticed I caught him. "It's a deal"

"So what you mean to tell me right now is that you're in the CEO's office right now!?" Erin screamed into the speaker. I sat on my swivel chair situated in a room in Mr Hilton's office. I got my personal office, hell yeah!

"She just said that, didn't she?" Deb chuckled. She was acting so calm but I knew better. She was about to blow with excitement. We were making a three way group voice call.

"I actually have my own office. Everything had been arranged before I got here." I said as I took in my office. It had a deep burgundy wallpaper and a desk with few paper works on it. A swivel chair and a water dispenser were the only thing complementing the rest of the room. I would have to give it finish in touches. Maybe get a goldfish. Some flowers and pictures could do a great job. Thing was,how long would I be here before he got tired of me?

"Earth to Gina!" Erin snapped. I flushed.

"Sorry girls,I was lost in thought"

"For a moment,I thought the CEO walked in"

"Speaking of the CEO,how does he look like in person?" Erin chipped in.

"Like I would spare him a glance" I said in a duh tone. "But attitude? If you ask me,I'd say he's cocky."

"Cocky like cocky?" Deb sing sang.

"Ew Deb" Erin helped me out as I released a small laugh. "We have about ten minutes more. Lunch break is almost over"

"Ugh,I want something to eat but I don't know if my 'new boss' would let me out"

"Your loss. You didn't ask" Erin giggled.

"Jacob to the CEO,who would you prefer?" Deb inquired. We had told her of Jacob before.

"Jacob anytime please. He's just a huge flirt. So harmless. But Mr Hilton has this intimidating aura and his height doesn't help at all. It sucks being short."

"Ooooooh" Sang Erin. "Someone said she doesn't spare him a glance."

"Oh puh-lease. It's hard to not notice his height seeing how short I am. I look up to the man! And I'm sure he enjoys it. Believe me when I say he should be made the king of arseholes already. Mr Hilton is a narcist. First time we met,the man was so rude and he thought women couldn't do better. I put him in his place though and wouldn't hesitate to do that anytime again"

Just then,he walked in. Talk about bad timing.

"When you're done gossiping, seeing as that's the only thing you do,get into my office." He left as soon as he said that.

"Uh-oh" Deb cried.

"The douchebag" Erin swore.

"I gotta go girls."

I ended the call, took a deep breathe and walked to get my sack letter. First day in and I was already being kicked out.

So much for helping Ms Higgins.
