Emily, a middle aged woman couldn’t handle her relationship been over with her lover of four year after she saw pictures of him getting married. Filled with pain and rejection, she stayed indoor crying and hoping things will get better but it didn’t when she found out she had been replaced.

After a week of trying of heal from the pain, she decided to give life a second chance when she mysteriously got a job and started noticing some weird activities going on at work.

Harmful Lies

"You did what!!!" Donna yelled, her hands above her head 


The African American girl, sat on a brown wooden chair beside April listening to her friend talk about her new job. Her hair in straight back cornrows braid, her large dark brown eyes moving from April to Emily. She wore a ocean blue loose cardigan and a black fitted trouser, her feet were encased in black leather boot as she continuously tap them on the wooden floor while listening to her friend 


"I signed the terms and conditions and boom! I got the job, you needed to see my coworkers, so handsome and beautiful" Emily couldn't stop smiling and talking about the whole experience 


"Can you even hear yourself?" April rolled her eyes 


"Yes I can hear myself, why aren't you always happy for me, all the time you complain about every single thing, now I've gotten a new job, you should be happy for me but no you aren't" Emily yelled , her eyes squinting slightly 


"You think I'm not happy for you, I got you the flyer, yes! And without me you won't have this job in the first place" April yelled back 


Emily nostrils flared, her lips tightly shut 


"And even if you're the dumbest person in the whole universal, you should know you don't go about signing something you haven't read, what if it's written there somewhere that you don't have to marry and you signed it already, you are literally gonna remain single for the rest of your miserable life" April yelled slamming the front door as she walked away 


"Its gonna be my miserable life, why don't you leave me to deal with it alone, bitch!" Emily yelled running upstairs 


"That ended well" Donna said sarcastically walking straight to the fridge to get a snack 


Emily sat on her bed, her hands wrapped around her legs as she sobbed gently, she was so lost in thought she didn't know someone was knocking on the door. April slowly walked in alongside Donna. She sat on the bed while Donna stood. 


Emily raised up her head and turned to look at who spoke, her facial expression changed when she saw April 


"Let me be please" she wiped the tears off her face 


"I'm sorry I sounded that way Emily, I was just looking out for you" 


"Looking out for me? Have you heard how you talk to me? You don't talk like you're looking out for me, you talk like you despise me for no reason" Emily said, tears welling in her eyes 


"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Emily" April fought back her tears 


"I really don't know if I've ever done anything wrong to you, I don't like the way you talk to me April, I really don't" Emily turned to look at April 


April reached out for Emily's hands as she looked at her 


"I'd be fine, you've gat to trust me on this, if I suspect anything wrong in the company, I'm quitting" Emily said and April nodded 


They both hugged holding each other tightly as they sobbed quietly 


"Are you guys done?" Donna broke the silence 


They stopped hugged and wiped their tears away laughing awkwardly 


"Emily, you shouldn't have signed those papers, you have no idea what was in it and it could cost you your life" Donna said 


"Can you two just trust me on this one, please?" She begged 


"Please" Emily begged bitting her lower lips 


"Fine then" Donna said "But when you start suspecting some foul games, you should let us know, we can save you before anything happens, okay?" She asked and Emily nodded 


"Thank you, you two, for looking out for me" she said looking at April and Donna before hugging April tightly again
