Emma didn’t know how she got home that night. It was just as foggy and as dark. Her mind was so drained and she just felt tired. She didn’t have her coat on, because she had left it at Em’s and soon chill started crawling up her skin.
When she came into the house, her mum came out to see who it was.
“Where were you?” she said. “I couldn’t sleep. You are a whole hour late. Why don’t you have your coat on? And where did you get that hairslide?”
Instead of answering Emma pulled her mum close and hugged her.
“I’m so happy to see you”.
Her mum was surprised by that but hugged her back. Her temper settled down and she asked quieter: “You want to eat?”
“Starving,” answered Emma smiling.
“Good,” her mum smiled as well. “We have a whole bowl of soup”.
“Thank you. But first. Where is Amber?”
“She’s in her room. Why?”
Without answering Emma opened the door to Amber’s room. Her sister was fast asleep. In her hand she was holding a little blue bunny.
