Chapter 3 - Brothers

"INFECTED!!!" Yelled Angie.

"Do we fight them?" Dameer asked.

"With what weapons?" I asked as we all started backing away slowly. "But then again we can't just run away and leave them here."

Just then one of the infected ran at us without warning. With its head twitching, body shaking and unorthodox running motion. It didn't waste any time to try and attack us.

"RUN!!" I yelled as we all turned to run away from them. Or at least I thought we all did. Before I even started running we heard a loud "BANG!" I turned around to see the infected on the ground and Lj standing over it with the board that came off the window. He turned his head to me and said...

"After all this time I thought you would've been tired of running."

At that point the other infected let off an echoing scream while charging at Lj. His head snapped to the infected as if he had an auto lock on system in his eyes. Raising the board he ran at it at full speed. Just before they came together Lj dropped to his knees sliding pass the infected while swinging the board for its leg, taking it down. Before its body even hit the ground Lj jumped back to his feet and spun around racing back towards it. Before the infected could get it's guard up, Lj slammed the edge of the board into its neck, and held it there until it finally stopped moving.

It happened so fast, I didn't even have time to react to what he had said to me. He took down two infected with nothing but a wooden board without hesitation, meanwhile I once again was controlled by my fear.

"Ejay, Dameer, help me put this board back up." Said Lj while walking to the window. "Hand the flashlight to one of the girls, let's get this done quick."

Everyone was still speechless because of what we just witnessed. Given their reactions I assume they've never had an encounter like this before.

It took us under five minutes to get the board back up, however it definitely isn't as sturdy as it was before. Just then...

"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" A girl's scream came echoing through the corridor.

"That sounded like Nesha." Said Dameer in a concerned tone. "Hold on we're coming!" He screams as we all sprinted in the direction of her voice.

"What if more infected got in the building?" Asked Lici.

"She could be in real trouble, Dameer where did you leave her?" Asked Angie

"Room A4, right around this corner." He replied.

As we came around the corner I saw a girl stomping on something in the shadows. Aggressively and repeatedly stomping until Lici shined the flashlight at her. She was breathing heavily and slowly turned to face us.

"Dameer is that you?" She says walking towards us revealing a dismembered centipede splattered along the floor.

"A centipede?" Exclaimed Dameer. "We ran here all concerned cause you were fighting a centipede?"

"Shut up big stupid, if you didn't take so long to come back I wouldn't have needed to look for you." Nesha replied.

"ShUt Up BiG sTuPiD." Dameer responded mocking her.

"See, see, watch yourself lil' boy don't act out cause people around."

As those two continued to bicker back and forth Angie came up to and said...

"So your brother is a badass, very different from you so far. I'm guessing you two have different dads or something."

"We're not related at all." I responded while sitting against a wall.

"Then why-"

"We became brothers by choice. He lost both of his parents when he was young and my dad found him hiding in the trunk of a car. He took him in and raised him as his own son after that. Both of us were six years old. From I met him he never had any real motivation to do most things. On top of that he has a very strong hatred towards the infected. As I got older I thought maybe the infected had something to do with his parents, but he never told us what happened to them. Of course I never really tried to get it out of him cause I'm not that kind of person. But I can't help but be curious."

"So...Your mom and dad are here in the city?" Angie asked as she sat next to me.

"Just my mom. My dad went missing a while ago, before we came here. About five years ago he started acting strange."

"Strange how?" She asked in a low voice.

"Well. First he started to stress the point that me and Lj needed to be in peak physical shape. Running, climbing, anything we had at our disposal to improve ourselves. Then he started to leave the town by himself. Lying to us sometimes too, just so mom wouldn't be worried. One time he left and didn't come back for three weeks. When he returned he'd, changed. He told us pack our bags and be ready to leave this place. He told me and Lj to leave the city and come here to become searchers. He said after that, the wind will push me where it couldn't push him, but if it pushes to hard it'll take everything from us. Few days after that he left town again and hasn't been heard from since."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Angie replied. "Your dad seems pretty mysterious."

We sat in silence for a while with Angie randomly looking at me and then looking away. I closed my eyes as I'm now starting to feel tired.

"You know I..." Angie says before pausing.

"What was that?" I replied while opening my eyes to look up at her.

"Never mind, lets go back to our room." She says as she rises to her feet. "Guys let's go, we're heading back. We'll have to report the bodies in the morning when we find an adult."

"Wait what bodies?" Asked Nesha.

"That's what I've been trying to tell you. We killed two infected." Dameer replied.

"Boy stop lying, your scary ass is run away from flying roach. You expect me to believe you killed an infected."

"Well he didn't really help he just stood there and held the light." Lici said jumping in.

"Akekekekeke you guys are funny." Replied Dameer.

"Hey Lj." I said walking up to him. "Next time, don't help me. If I cant fight to protect myself, then you protecting me is a waste of time."

Lj looked at me and gave me a half smile before walking past me.

"I'm not gonna stand around and watch, you got to beat me to it." He replied.

Even better.
