As Violet raced out the door she almost collided with a distraught Alex, Ted, and Tom, who were clearly looking for her. Their distraught magnified into horror upon seeing the door she had raced out of. "Violet, what are you-"
"No time!" Violet shouted as she ran back toward the children. Kieren approached the door, walking quickly after Violet. He was followed by half of the Ruenen Lords and a collection of Commanders and Captains. Ted gripped Tom's arm. What had Violet done.
Kieren did not say a single word, his jaw was taunt, all he could think was Violet, Violet, please tell me you know what you are doing.
Ted, Tom, and Alex fell into step with Zen who quickly filled them in on Violet's rather dramatic entrance and exit. Alex whimpered, "they'll kill her."
They entered the wounded area and saw Violet racing toward the very center, somebody was shouting at her, but she ignored them.
She reached the center as they all finally clambered into the room. Everything grew quiet upon realizing that Kieren was present.
Violet was kicking off her boots and socks, two other members of the hall raced toward her clearly embarrassed that a stupid girl was misbehaving before the Ruenen, and more importantly Lord Zordyk himself.
Before they could reach her Violet stood up straight and tall, she took in a huge breath and as she exhaled closed her eyes. The small soft light they usually associated with her healing turned into a ball at the height of her chest. She rose off the ground a few inches and gasps echoed around the room. Alex looked to her group in confusion, they seemed as lost as she. The ball seemed to explode out of Violet like a wave, but in every direction, her arms outstretched, curled into firsts at the ends. The initial gasps turned into outright shock, as the light spread into the room it healed what it touched. Kieren took a step forward without realizing it, he was mesmerized, her beauty and prowess seemed amplified. Wave after wave kept exploding out of her, healing everything in its path.
Violet was his, he would never let anybody else have her.
Her words came back to him, she had realized something, somebody would be outraged at this turn of events. Unwillingly he turned his eyes away from Violet, blue crystals seeing everything until he found his target.
As the light started diminishing, wounds disappeared astonishingly. All around them parents and staff members alike found themselves in tears of gratitude for the girl in the center. Violet slowly descended to the floor, only when her feet were planted on the ground, and the light gone did she open her eyes.
"It won't completely heal everybody here, but it'll be enough that nobody will have to die. I cannot help those already dead.
She had spoken so quietly, but it rang around the room. She swayed on her feet and Kieren reacted instantaneously, moving forward when a firm hand grasped him and then let go. He met Zen's eyes, Zen shook his head slightly pleading.
Alex had raced forward closely followed by the twins, they grabbed her right before she sunk to the ground. She was still conscious, but shaking, out of breath, and spent.
She made to move, to walk, but Ted grabbed her and picked her up. "You've done good, we can do the rest."
Tom and Alex surrounded them on guard, what Violet had just displayed was unheard of and those who had not been fully healed were certain to want more. They looked to Kieren for directions, he motioned them out of the room with a nod. Kieren turned back out the door, stopped in the hallway and spoke clearly so that all could hear. "Violet was asking for permission, she is only to use that for extreme situations. Take her to rest, we still have culprits to catch."
Violet was resting on a sofa, exhaustion attempting to claim her, to no avail. She had concealed her hand in her sweater as quickly as they laid her down, a gaping hole would raise more questions. Thankfully it seemed both the twins and Alex were preoccupied with what they had just witnessed. Alex approached her with food and water, "You should rest Violet. I'm baffled that you managed that, but we've all at one time or another consumed close to our entire amount of reserves. It's dangerous and draining." The twins cut in, "either way, what you did saved almost four hundred and fifty lives, it was the right call. Now you must rest, otherwise you're risking your own life."
Violet sighed and took the items being offered to her. The truth was, she wasn't certain she had made the correct set of decisions. Perhaps she should have let the children die... justifications set aside she was exposing herself drastically with her actions. She rubbed her eyes, she was -naked in a blizzard- exposed here, she was drained, and in no condition to flee.
Kieren opened the door, "I need a minute with Violet, stand guard outside." The three left.
When the twins had taken Violet away the decision makers had returned to their chamber. Kieren trusted Violet, he was certain she had found the man. He was also certain that if he decided on it, he could make the man talk. Attacking without a reason or some evidence, however, was nonsensical, Kieren didn't make rash decisions. It was one of the many qualities that led to Kieren being held in such high regard, especially for his age. His eyes flashed in the direction of the dark haired man, his name was Svenn Sol. He was in no way extraordinarily powerful, in fact he had been inducted into the Ruenen as a commander due to his pragmatic nature, and familiar connections. He was an intelligent asset, one that specialized in predicting the moves of the enemy. Kieren had even sparred with him one on one before, after all Svenn was only four years older. What had Violet found? It was obvious, Violet had a way of discerning information from objects and people in a manner he had never witnessed before. It was enthralling, but right now he needed clarification. The rest of the men and women were talking, some eyes on Kieren, attempting to ascertain the knowledge in his mind. Another remarkable quality of Kieren's lay in the fact that regardless of his mind his face remained void of emotions. "I need a moment."
He left the room without a backwards glance.
Kieren took a seat next to Violet. As he looked into the exhaustion riddled grey orbs that captivated him endlessly, he faltered in his reason for visiting. "Are you alright?"
Violet smiled serene, "There's an important reason for your visit Kieren, ask away."
"How do you know Violet?"
"Are you suspicious of me?" Violet responded quietly.
He shook his head.
"Maybe you should be?" Violet replied. She once more rubbed her eyes lost in thought. They were quiet for a few moments, finally Violet supplied, "harder or easier?"
"Always harder."
"Very well, once you corner him, ask him who allowed him to damage the markings stones. When you do, only a handful will react. This is knowledge, you are not privy to so they will take it very seriously. They will inspect the marking stones, I counted ten... If you truly head this way you're pushing for answers many will not want to give. When he resists, casually mention the 'Nightmare Walkers' that should rattle his core."
Violet handed him a ripped band, "if you want the easier way, most low members of the Ruenen, as I know you are aware of, are given an identification band they wear around their ankle. This one I pulled a piece of from the largest marking stone in this school. That marking stone is set directly at the entrance, tampering it, is not only ballsy, but requires you let yourself be seen." Kieren caught on, "he waited for the attack to begin before taking the last one down, thats why the last bomb truly impacted." He suddenly pictured blood stained leg trousers, "and why he was injured when he claimed he was in his study when the attack began."
Violet smiled, "theirs no harm in taking the easy way this- Hey!" Kieren had suddenly pulled her closer. "How long are you planning to hide your hand?"
