"What do you mean they haven't appeared at the next camera?"
"Why didn't you report this immediately?"
"How long has it been since their last check in?"
The man gulped, his name was Jorge Sandoval, and in his fifty-five years working for the Ruenen, he had never lost sight of any of the trainees. He prided himself in being the best watcher, he traced every route before hand and quadruple checked the angles and blind spots created from his cameras. As one of the best of the Ruenen's watchers he has been assigned to the up and coming prince. Jorge had been thrilled.
He had patrolled the route, cleared the airways, and prepped his equipment. He might even get to meet the prince when it all went well. It had began perfectly, the trainees were ahead of schedule and Jorge had his eyes practically glued to the screen. He had practically fallen over when an aphrodisiac of a beauty emerged from the vehicle. He had watched her work with great interest, he had never seen a woman like that. They had entered the forest with absolute ease. He had noticed their absence two minutes after they were due for their check point, but this was the prince, perhaps they had stopped for some fun.
Jorge had made a mistake, he had rewound his cameras to watch the earlier interactions of the teammates.... no to watch her.... she truly was ethereally beautiful. He has lost himself in those gray otherworldly eyes and by the time he had returned his camera to real time Jorge had realized he was screwed.
Jorge blinked back into the present as another even more commanding voice entered the room.
"Where is my son? Who is responsible for his monitoring today?"
Jorge gulped loudly, sweat appearing on his face and trailing down his rather square jaw. "I..." he cleared his throat and with a low bow replied, "I am your majesty. There is only one road leading up to Solis Lake, they should have crossed the next camera. It's exactly three point six miles from the last. They have not appeared."
Anastasia drew herself up impatiently, "how long ago was this? Show me their last check in." Jorge's hands shook as he showed them the last camera's account. There was nothing out of the ordinary. All six of them, Dimitrox included could been seen in the vehicle. "It was... almost half an hour ago."
Heads whipped in Jorge's direction and he cowered as their rage broke. "Get me eyes on my son Immediately. I will deal with you later."
It was at the exact moment that the two rescue squads left the base that Violet fell fifty feet and down to her demise.
Violet's smile had left the team frozen, but only momentarily. Kieren had charged forward panic displayed on his face, he had ripped his shirt off and proceeded to carefully pull Violet into his arms. The twins, Alex, Zen, their panicked shouts and suggestions blurred for both Kieren and Violet as Kieren tried to stem the flow of warm blood leaving Violet's body.
Kieren turned around his voice strong and stern despite the shattered feeling in his chest. His eyes glowed dangerously as he spoke. "You will get us out of here!" His guards fell to their knees as the command came over them. "As of this moment you owe Violet my life. You will kill every single enemy we encounter. I will hold you responsible for her life if she dies in my arms."
Alex shivered clutching her chest, she could feel Zen's shallow breaths from beside her. This command would not be lifted easily.
Kieren rose to his feet still cradling a barley responsive Violet.
"Where?" It was a Zen, scythe in hand, "the nearest hospital is... she's bleeding too much.. she won't...."
Kieren interrupted him coldly, "we move back to the un-damaged vehicle, my safe house is closer and it'll have everything we need. Alex, call Jace. I want him there now!"
Violet could hear them, but it was bizarre, it was strangely quiet, and they were so far away. Their voices echoed eerily, and even though she could tell that they were moving -every jostle cost her more precious blood- she could not tell where they were going. She reckoned that she was in pain, or at least something similar.
She let out a small sigh, how many times had she been here, had she held people while they were here, in this state. Broken.
Kieren's beautiful eyes filled her sight, he looked.... terrified. Violet frowned, he was clearly speaking to her, but the ringing in her ears would not permit his voice inside.
She sighed again and attempted to close her eyes when his voice finally cut through.
In a devastating pleading voice he nearly shouted, "Violet don't you dare. Stay awake."
Her vision swayed and a hollow scream from somewhere startled her. Kieren pulled her in tighter, whispering words of -she imagined- comfort in her ear.
At some point she must have blacked out, because she came too in a vehicle, Kieren was giving orders and she groaned puzzled. It was not his voice that had woken her, no, it was something else, a scorching pounding in her veins. Violet chuckled, blood coming up to her lips as the car moved. Murasame was very impatient. Violet refused, not yet, not like this.
Kieren looked down, pain distorting his gaze, he was talking to her again. It would have been nice to hear, he always did have a melodious voice. After several moment she gave up, hoping that they would comprehend, she whispered out. "I need a favor."
This time she heard it, Kieren stroked her face tenderly, lovingly, wiping away blood from her lips. "What do you need?"
Violet smiled, "no... you won't...." she paused and for a few moments their breath stilled in fear. Violet continued, her voice almost impossible to hear. "It'll have to be you Zen, they won't." He left hand came up, came to rest between her breasts, in the center of her chest. She fought to steady her gaze and lock it onto Zen, "when I die... all the way through, straight down.... you'll know."
Violet let out a forced, stuttered exhale, they were arguing again, they probably didn't comprehend. But they would, Murasame's pulling was becoming incessant, it's blood oath would be paid. Violet mumbled to nobody in particular "not yet"
The next time she came too they had stopped, Kieren was shouting for someone,
something, it was getting cold, still raining. Had she ever let it get this bad before?
Somebody was calling her name, once, twice, thrice, for the hundredth time.
"I'm begging you, Violet! Please!!"
He was shaking, so it was Kieren, a warm hand ran across her cheek and despite the cold, through the haze and rage of Murasame she heard 'blood' and 'type'.
Violet let out a small hum, she focused on crystal clear blue and coughed out before completely losing consciousness. "AB Negative"
Violet had been handed off to Jace, he had clearly been shocked at her appearance. Nonetheless he had calmly, professionally, and quickly taken over. A second crisis emerged when Jace, pale, announced that they didn't have enough blood for this, really the only reason they had any and of such a rarity was due to Kieren also being 'AB Negative'. His stock was only for small emergencies, enough to move Kieren someplace infinitely more equipped.
Kieren had held out his arm, "use mine!"
They had all gasped and Zen, unable to stop himself had called out, "Kieren that's forbidden, it's your blood." Zen took a step back as Kieren, murderous gaze and aura approached him, "stop me Zen... do it."
Jace, ever the calm man, interrupted. "I do not have time for your antics Zen, her life is on the line. Kieren your blood will work. Come here, Alex you will help me."
Jace had kicked Zen, Ted, and Tom out and proceeded to give Alex instructions.
Kieren had given his blood, he would drain his body dry before he let her die. He was fighting back a clammy piercing panic that kept threatening to take his sanity. He felt his breathing shallow out, what would he do? She couldn't leave him. He would destroy everything and everyone in his path to find those that had done this. His vision darkened with rage, hands shaking, his power threatening to spill over.
Alex grabbed both of his shoulders and shook him, "Kieren look at me! Kieren! We have enough! Kieren breathe!"
Alex held on tighter despite the small bursts of electricity burning her hands. "Breathe! Jace can fix this"
She gulped as he looked up his breathing evening out. His gaze was cold, ruthless, devoid of emotion. "I will kill them all."
