Under Someone

Malien jaw dropped in utter shock.

"Malien? What are you doing here?" he asked as he stood up and walked up to her.

"I should ask you the same" she whispered.

"You know her?" Zhang voice echoed.

Mr Li Jie turned from Malien slowly to face Zhang.

"Meet Malien Smith Ying. Daughter of Jenny Ying and Mark Smith Ying" Mr Li Jie said.

Malien rose her head up high but, Zhang wasn't moved.

"How are your parents, Malien?" he asked, turning his attention to Malien.

She bent her head down and sighed, allowing each word of hers to flow out the way they come.

"My mother disowned me and... Twelve years ago, my dad divorced my mum..." Malien kept her face neutral but didn't look at any of the faces in the room.

Mr Li Jie's face changed expression as he looked at her in complete pity and worry.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Malien" he whispered and Malien nodded.

"Anyway, let's not keep them waiting" He said and sat down on a chair and Malien sat opposite the desk where all the employees sat.

"So... We will start over... Your name?" another elderly man asked.

"My name is Malien Smith Ying, Sir"

"Born into the family of?"

"The Yings"

Zhang stared at her with a blank expression. Many times, they had eye contacts and Malien would break it only making Zhang to stare at her the more and smile.

"Age?"

Malien bit her lip. The question she dreaded most has come.

"Fifteen" she said in a choky style and the elderly man smiled.

"Zhang" he called and Zhang leaned forward, making Malien's breathing pace to pick up. Her eyes widened as he leaned closer to the man and across her. Making her nose to catch a slight scent of his suit.

It took seconds and some whisperings before they return their gaze to Malien.

"Daughter... When will you prefer to start?" the elderly man asked and Malien heart skipped with Joy.

"Anytime, Sir. I can start even now" she said smiling like a little kid as she jacked up.

"Great... Zhang will be your personal boss and as time goes on, we will arrange a little surprise for both of you"

Malien's face dropped. Her eyes widened as she looked at the suspicious, now-smiling Zhang. Her face didn't hide the disappointment she felt at that moment.

"I believe that you... Malien will be a great team with Zhang Wei... You may even get to know somethings about each other" Mr Li Jie said.

Malien wide eyes got captivated with Zhang's way too quickly.

"Thank you Miss. You're dismissed" the elderly mans said.

She exited from the room and Zhang followed her from behind.

She walked quickly out of the office hoping to escape any talk that comes up with Zhang.

But unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen.

Zhang grabbed her elbow from behind and she stopped walking but didn't turn to look at him.

"Why the rush?"

Malien wasn't actually in the mood to talk.

"Let me go" she grumbled but he pulled her to his side.

"Why are you like this?"

Malien eyebrows raised and the fear to not talk disappeared as she looked up at him.

"You planned this right?"

Zhang lips bursted wide as a grin escaped it.

"How are you my boss? And how come you know Mr Li Jie?"

Zhang's jawline twitched like he chewed something for a moment before answering her.

"You might not wanna know the answer to both of those questions" he said and Malien stood straight.

"Whether you like it or not..." he leaned forward towards her.

"You are, working with me and under me at that"

Malien's eyes got captivated in his as he stood erect and the slight scent passed through the nostrils of Malien again.

"Now, let's not keep you waiting. May I have your phone number so as to inform you whenever a project or assignment comes up?"

Malien's eyebrows shot up and she looked at him in hatred. Contemplating whether or not to give him her number.

But, what else could she do.

She pulled her phone out of her pocket. Lighten up the screen and she scrolled down the contacts. She tapped on a contact labelled: 'My No.' and she gave the phone to Zhang.

He pulled his own phone out and like he didn't have to lighten the screen up, be copied the number and gave the phone back to Malien.

"Thank you for your associate, Miss Malien"

His hand shot forward for a handshake and Malien reluctantly accepted.

He smiled. A type of wicked looking one and left to the office he just exited.

Ass. Malien thought as she turned to go.

She then realized all the people sitting there were staring at her. Or them rather.

She felt like melting as she walked fully embarrassed out of the company. All eyes on her like she was a criminal target in town.

What is she going to do?

She looked from her right to her left, then right again and then-"Oh!"

She bumped into someone.

She raised her head up to stare at a very white and good looking guy in front of her. He got blue eyes, blonde hair and he is tall.

"I'm so sorry" Malien said as she bent down to gather the documents that was on the floor for him.

The guy stood erect for a minute staring at Malien before he bent down.

"I didn't mean to do this. I should have watched where I was going... I'm..."

"It's okay."

Malien eyes found its way to the strange guy in front of her and she felt her heartbeat speed up.

"I should be the one to apologise. I should have watched where I was going. I am sorry"

Malien gulped audibly and picked the documents on the floor.

She reached for the last one and dragged it but... The guy seems to also carry that one.

She gasped a little and withdrew her hand from the document. The guy chuckled as they both stood up erect.

"Here you go" she said and handed over to him the rest of his documents.

"Thank you"

She nodded and wanted to walk off but... The guy stopped her.

"Hey... Easy girl. Isn't it better to introduce yourself?"

Malien froze at that spot. Her thoughts spinning widely and her mouth dropped open as she turned to face him.

"Pardon?"

"I like making friends everyday"

Malien and the guy made too much eye contact and she was the one who always broke it.

"Okay. My name is Malien Smith Ying" she said with a little portray.

"I'm Li Jun" he said.

"Nice to meet you, Li"

She said and he smiled and offered a handshake.

She accepted and they shook hands.

"Likewise" He said and smiled.

"You work here?"

"No. I mean yes, by tomorrow hopefully. I came here for an interview and I will start work tomorrow"

Li Jun nodded and smiled.

"Let me not stop you then. You must be really tired. Hope to see again, Malien. Have a nice day and night" he said and walked off.

Ouch.

What was that about?

Malien seemed taken aback but she moved on.

She soon got home with a little grocery and she collapse on her bed.

Suddenly, her phone beeped.

Lightning up the screen, she saw a text from Zhang.

My day won't get any worse, she thought.
