Yun Kai blinked, "How should I put it?"
She couldn't say she was afraid, but she couldn't say she wasn't afraid either; sometimes, she actually was afraid. However, that kind of fear was different from the fear that Ji Huaiyu and Shenfeng had for Huo Tingzhou.
"Look at you, you can't even explain it clearly yourself, so how could you possibly articulate whether others are truly afraid or not?" Huo Tingzhou stretched out his hand and lifted her up.
"That's equivocating," Yun Kai said, slightly astonished, poking his shoulder with her finger: "If I were afraid of you, what would you do if I ran away because of that fear?"
"Then I'll make you even more afraid, too scared to run away," Huo Tingzhou tightened his grip, his voice husky and his gaze cold. He slowly bent down to kiss her.
For the first time, Yun Kai did not dodge. She blinked her eyes slowly and then closed them, a gesture of both permission and invitation.
But the kiss did not land directly.
