The painted boat drifted downstream and, upon reaching the middle of the river, Ye Xingbei saw a vast expanse of lotus flowers, perfectly illustrating the grand sight from that poem: "Endless green lotus leaves stretch to the sky, the sun-kissed lotuses show their unique red."
Gu Junzhu plucked a lotus pod and handed it to Ye Xingbei, "Do you like eating these?"
Ye Xingbei nodded, her smile full of warmth, "I particularly like them!"
Gu Junzhu took the pod back, peeled out plump white lotus seeds, and stuffed them into her mouth.
Looking at his sweet smile, Ye Xingbei said, "It's especially sweet, and very delicious!"
She, too, peeled one and placed it into Gu Junzhu's mouth.
The two of them took turns feeding each other, foolishly and sweetly nourishing each other with the treats.
