Absent-Minded

You yawned quietly, laying down on your stomach atop your mattress. You lazily propped yourself up on your elbows, one palm supporting your head as the other flicked through social media. Finally, it was the weekend―setting you in a radiant mood―so you got to relax.

Generally, the boys would train during Saturday afternoons at the school's gymnasium. However, you found it extremely odd they hadn't texted you to pull up... You wondered if that video was a big deal to them―more specifically Kita...

You knew that it would have set Suna off, but just thinking about that topic specifically put you ill at ease. Of course, you were already on tenterhooks with the captain considering his personality was a walking time bomb, but who knows?

You quickly took into account they had nationals next weekend, so you finally concluded they were probably occupied with that―you really hoped so anyway.

You sighed heavily, feeling the salt of monotony wash over you. Your mum still wasn't back from overseas, so you were home alone, once again. But, aside from the tense drama, saying those exact words to Akari made you feel self-assured. Maybe it was only in the sense you wanted to have control of your life, but it still made you happy.

Wistfully, you couldn't say no to her in the past, yet what she said to you the other day set you off completely. You felt that no one could invalidate how you felt considering what you went through with your father. No apology was going to make up for what she said. Despising him might be factual, but he was still your blood after all.

You thrummed quietly to yourself, flicking through oodles of stories displayed at the top of your Instagram feed. You noticed Suna had posted a story, making you tap on his icon accordingly to view it. He was seen with the rest of the group, throwing and receiving shots in the school's gymnasium. You suddenly frowned, thinking back to that one incident you had with the boy.

In all aspects of the event, you really did not know how to feel about it. It felt good, sure... But this did not help your situation with Akari. You were just as trifling as she was right now―value and communication weren't in her methodology.

After viewing his story, you threw your phone in front of you, letting out a huff. Upon hearing a text message from the device, you whinged quietly, stretching over to pick it up again.

Unlocking the device with facial ID, you hastily clicked on the green notification that was surprisingly sent by Kita.

Mr Grumpy Head: "We need to have a talk. Also, you never showed up for training today. What's that about??"

You let out a heavy sigh, grumbling at the text; however, you replied back instantly, hovering the tips of your thumbs over the keyboard to prepare a message back.

You: "Oh, what about? And I was waiting for your crabby ass to text me x I wasn't quite sure whether you guys wanted me to show up or not."

Mr Grumpy Head: "I think you already know what it's about, Y/N... Just hurry up and come to the school's gymnasium..."

God, was he your mother or something?

One more exhale left your lips before placing your phone down to get changed. You walked over to your wardrobe, pulling out fresh sweats as well as the Inarizaki volleyball jersey. You quickly slipped into those, along with some comfortable shoes. Finally, you sprayed perfume around your neck and hair before grabbing your phone, bag and house keys to leave.

Making it outside the house, you locked the door behind you, soon turning around to make your way over to the school. It wasn't necessarily a long walk, but it wasn't the warmest of days either, unfortunately.

Upon making your way into the school gates, you quickly spotted Osamu, who was filling his water bottle up at a fountain. He noticed you instantly, waving at you directly after. You returned the gesture, smiling lively as you jogged over to him.

"Hey..." You came to a halt next to him, Osamu shooting you a cocky grin. "Hey, Y/N!" You raised an eyebrow taking in the silver-haired boys peculiar body language. "Why are you all ecstatic this afternoon?"

Osamu let out a low chuckle, screwing the lid to his bottle shut. "Ya know, you've made Suna quite famous now..." You folded your arms over your chest, pulling a disgruntled look before turning away from the boy. "Yeah, Yeah... What of it? He must be full of himself now with all the pussy he gets..."

The boy sighed heavily, "Well- Not really..." Osamu paused for a split second, "He's actually quite upset... Maybe you should apologise to him?" You snorted, "Huh? Why should I apologise?? He wanted me to record it in the first place..."

Osamu raised a brow, "Wait- He did...? That's strange." He ran a damp palm through his thick locks before speaking, "You looked great in it, though." He grinned nervily again.

You sighed, acquiescing his statement, "What? You want some too?" You giggled softly. "Is this your way of asking, though? Just be blunt with me, Samu'" You jested towards the boy, earning a light chuckle from him.

You and Osamu made your way over to the school's gym, the boy tagging along behind you. "Okay then, I'm asking about something more specific, though." He brushed his digits through his hair anxiously, "Can you pretend to have sex with me so I can get the attention of someone? Of course, I'll do whatever in return, just please..."

You scoffed, "What am I? The devil? I don't make deals like that, Samu... If you like someone else, don't be a wuss and just tell them..." Osamu swallowed thickly, "Well, you see, It's a bit complicated..." You raised a brow at him, coming close to the entrance, "It's complicated, how-"

"There you two are..." You were immediately cut off by Kita as you stepped through the doorway. "Osamu, go pack up. I need to speak to Y/N privately." Osamu nodded his head slowly, immediately jogging off. He threw you a thumbs up while running towards the rest of the group, causing you to roll your eyes in discomfort.

You walked alongside Kita, no conversation dispersing between the two of you. After you finally made a stop at the benches, he removed his jacket, staring at you with cold eyes. "What's that look for?"

The boy took a step closer to you, leaning in towards your ear, "Just how much are you gonna do till I explode? Do you want to see me angry?" There was a few seconds of silence before your mouth dropped open to say something, but before you could, Kita raised a palm up to caress your cheekbone, now leaning back.

"Why do you forget on purpose? Was your father that evil or something?" You shivered lightly, turning to meet his fiery orbs, pulling a face before turning back. "Just, fuck off." You gently nudged him out of the way, throwing your bag to the floor as you sat on the side bench.

He sighed heavily, sitting next to you, "It's so, so tempting, Y/N." You raised a brow, grinning to yourself as you watched the boys practice in front of you, "Then why don't you?" You placed a palm on his inner left thigh, squeezing it tenderly, "All you need to say is, 'pretty please', though."

Kita hissed, squeezing the top of your palm with his left hand, "I'm not talking about that..." He trailed off, "I'm talking about how witless you are. Unless you do it on purpose. I know you're smarter than you look, Y/N." You gasped quietly, feeling him clench harder around your hand. He glanced over to you, "We were like soulmates... Don't you remember?"

You raised a brow, still confused about what this lunatic was talking about, "No, I don't. Now please let go of me, asshole..." You snatched your own palm from his grasp, caressing the skin gently as you looked forward again.

He sighed, "That's fine, Y/N. If you want to remember the hard way, that is totally up to you." You growled, turning to face the boy again, "What is your-" You were immediately cut off by a pair of lips meeting with your own. Your eyes shot open in bewilderment, observing Kita's mouth against your own.

You pushed him back, "What the fuck is your problem? Seriously..." You mumbled the last part, standing up speedily. "Wait- Y/N..." Before you could walk off, Kita grabbed your wrist, pulling you towards him, "Fuck off!" You called out, slapping his cheek with your free palm.

You felt the skin around your wrist again, "If you have something to tell me, just fucking say it. Don't waste my time and be weird about it..."

At this point, everyone inside the building was staring at the two of you. Kita glanced around the room, furrowing heavily before ripping his gaze away from you. "It's more complicated than that." He growled softly, feeling his cheek.

You scoffed, "Okay? Then don't waste my fucking time. Just... Leave me alone, would you?" You stomped off, heading towards the free lockers within the building.

Upon making it halfway, you sighed heavily, attaching your back to the cabinets beside you.

"We were like soulmates. Don't you remember...?"

You swallowed thickly, sliding down the lockers to the floor in a heated mess. You bit your lip, immediately placing your palms over your eyes to cover them.

"Fuck... What is wrong with me?" You felt a single tear shed from your waterline, dripping down into the hollowness of your palms.

"Was your father that evil or something?"

You wept quietly. Maybe Akari was right after all? "No- No! No! No!" you screamed, sliding the flat of your palms through your H/C hair. Immediately after that, you tugged the roots aggressively, purposely hitting the back of your head against the cabinets.

"Hey, Y/N..." A soft voice called out to you, making you shift your attention accordingly. You opened your eyes, close to screaming at the person who called out your name. "Just fuck-!"

You sighed heavily, noticing it was Osamu. "Just... Please leave me alone. This isn't the right time. Can't you see that?" Osamu didn't speak a word but just casually slid down next to you, gazing up at the flickering corridor light.

"...I- just wanted to see if you were aight." You raised a brow, bringing your knees to your chest, "Why do you care?" You snorted afterwards, burying your face in your lap.

"Because I know ya're not this evil girl everyone makes you out to be. I've seen that look in your eyes before. It's called abandonment." You sobbed suddenly, hearing those words slip from his lips.

"Thank you." You snivelled, "Thank you for pointing that out, Osamu. Not like I didn't fucking know that already. Okay?" You suddenly jumped, feeling a pair of arms wrap around your head. Osamu pulled you into his embrace, squeezing you tightly before speaking again.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out like that... It's just... I know how ya feel." You felt another tear roll down your cheek as you lifted your face up to meet his soft gaze. "It's just hard, Samu... I mean, I hate it when people speak of my father when they know nothing of him. I haven't seen him since I was five... He could be dead for all I know?"

You furrowed your brows, turning your gaze to the floor. You fidgeted with your fingers, "And my mum wasn't there for most of my childhood. Business this... America that... Money- Yadi, yadi, yada."

You grumbled, hearing Osamu chuckle above you. You twisted your head to meet his eyes, about to scold him, "You know... You remind me of my brother sometimes." You furrowed again.

"I can't believe you're comparing me to that..." You scoffed sarcastically, earning another chuckle from the silver-haired boy. "Well... Not like that, but he used to say the same thing about our dad."

He paused, leaning his head against the lockers before closing his eyes. He mimicked his brother, "Why do ya tolerate father so much? He wasn't the one that raised us but abandoned us... Blah, blah, blah..." He chuckled again.

"I don't know... Our father... He was- I guess ya could say he wasn't a very nice man, but he still tried his hardest for the family." You turned your attention away from him, silence filling the air afterwards.

You didn't know what to say, to be honest, so you stayed silent.

He sighed heavily, "Well, we better get back, ya know?" You nodded slowly, wiping tears from the corner of your eyes. "Yeah, we should..."

You slowly rose with Osamu, watching him walk ahead first. Then, tugging his wrist gently, you spoke up, "Thank you, by the way, Samu." He turned to meet your orbs, smiling gently. You tore your head away from him, your cheeks turning to a burning crimson colour.

"You didn't have to... You know... But I appreciate the comfort anyway." Osamu cackled loudly, pulling you into his embrace for a hug again. Your eyes widened with panic, admixed with surprise, quickly smelling the sweat mixed with his cologne. "Always here for you, Y/N."

Those words echoed inside your skull.

"I'm always here for you, Y/N." Your father tightened his grip around the hug, pulling you away after. "But please, never forget me if something happens."
