Law Enforcers

Wu Peng took three full hours to return to his shelter.

He bolted the steel door shut when he returned to his familiar little den. All he felt was his body overcome with fatigue.

He took off his protective gear and immediately slumped onto his bed.

When he closed his eyes, all he saw were the corpses of the repair team that were covered in their own blood.

He then thought back to the time he first saw Qin Ming. Wu Peng's eyes became red.

"I'll definitely find your murderer!" Wu Peng reached out and fiercely punched the bed. He felt a wave of pain spread through his fist. It made him feel a little better.

The night passed and a new day began.

The system, as per usual, reminded Wu Peng of the points he gained.

Wu Peng sat up and rubbed his red eyes.

This was the first time he had not been able to sleep since he came to this post-apocalyptic world.

He washed himself up and quickly ate breakfast.

Wu Peng wanted to head over to the satellite signal receiver immediately. He wanted to put the corpses of the repair team to rest properly before they were damaged by wild beasts.

However, Wu Peng hesitated just as he was about to head out of his shelter.

If the enemy from yesterday night was lying in an ambush near the corpses, he would not be a match for the other party just with the tiny handgun he had.

Additionally, he would be digging his own grave if the other party called on their partners.

However, Wu Peng was not a coward.

He instantly decided to make himself an automatic rifle to increase his firepower.

He had recently obtained points after he helped the users in the online forums giving Wu Peng the funds to invest a little more of his points on weapons.

He opened up the operating pod of the production station and selected the page for weapon production. He found a few familiar models in the rifle section.

The AK-47 was an automatic assault rifle developed by Kalashnikov. Even though it was outdated by modern standards, it had a simple design and was very practical.

It could do battle under any kind of condition and was easy to strip down and maintain. There were rarely any problems such as a blocked barrel.

There were also other automatic rifles like the notorious M4A1. However, Wu Peng did not give them much consideration simply because those rifles were more difficult to maintain. Additionally, in this post-apocalyptic world, the outside environment was abnormally complicated. A rifle like the AK-47 was a little more reliable.

More importantly, it did not cost as many points.

Wu Peng pressed a button to produce the weapon. A ray of white light flashed on the production station and a brand-new AK-47 appeared before his eyes.

He picked up the gun and expertly stripped it down before quickly putting it back together again. He adjusted the aim of the gun and nodded with satisfaction.

However, the original magazine clip of this rifle is very ordinary, with a capacity of only 30 bullets. He would not be able to suppress his enemies with firepower if he encountered an ambush of multiple enemies.

Wu Peng once again tapped open the operating interface of the production station, entered the page where the AK-47 had been, and found the selection to modify the gun.

There were several options he could choose from to modify the gun. He could equip a dagger under the barrel of the gun, add an electronic aim on the sights of the rifle, and even put on a hanging grenade launcher.

However, these options were all rather expensive. Wu Peng did not have the heart to choose those for the time being. He chose to only modify the magazine clip of the AK-47.

A ray of white light flashed, and three round magazine clips that could hold 90 bullets each appeared on the production station.

Wu Peng tapped on the bullet production interface and chose the 7.62-caliber bullets, and instantly produced 200 of them.

This completely depleted his already waning supply of copper. However, when he considered that this was to protect his life, he felt that these investments were worth it.

With the firepower of the rifle as self-defense, Wu Peng thought to upgrade his military tactical vest.

He greatly enhanced his tactical vest by upgrading it to Kevlar which greatly boosted its bulletproof capabilities.

Unfortunately, he could not put on a bulletproof helmet as he needed to wear his protective gear.

Wu Peng headed to the surface after he finished putting on all his gear.

He first took out his binoculars and surveyed the surroundings before he started to head toward the signal receiver after he ascertained that he was not being watched.

As he was afraid of encountering an enemy ambush, Wu Peng traveled much more slowly. He stopped to observe his surroundings every hundred meters as he walked.

When he was finally 300 meters away from his destination, he saw that there were a few figures near the satellite receiver.

As the magnification of his binoculars was not high, Wu Peng could not see what they looked like clearly. However, he could faintly make out that they were holding weapons.

"That bunch of bastards is really waiting for me!" Wu Peng clenched his teeth in fury. A surge of heat rushed up to his head.

He immediately crawled on the ground and set up his gun. He wanted to surprise his enemies with his attack.

However, he ultimately gave up after he spent some time aiming at the group. He did not have the confidence that he could hit them in one shot.

Wu Peng would have upgraded his sights if he knew that the other party would expose themselves out in the open this arrogantly.

"Why don't I head back and produce a sniper rifle?" Wu Peng was confident that he could kill the people in front of him if he had a sniper rifle.

Just as he was hesitating, he saw the other party start to drag the corpses of the repair team away.

"F*ck!" Wu Peng cursed softly. He could not tolerate the other party taking the corpses away.

There was no time left for him to hesitate. He hugged his rifle and started to charge toward the other party.

After a short sprint forward, Wu Peng arrived less than 100 meters from the other party.

To prevent himself from being exposed, he pounced forward and crawled on the ground. He then propped up his gun and aimed at one of the people who dragged the corpses away.

He was just about to open fire when he suddenly noticed how familiar the clothes of the other party looked.

Red and blue intertwined. Those were the uniforms of the law enforcers.

Wu Peng felt cold sweat drip down his back. Fortunately, he had run closer to the other party.

He would have been in deep trouble if he recklessly opened fire just now.

Law enforcers were the absolute organization of violence in this post-apocalyptic world. They had the right to fire at will. They could immediately launch an attack as long as they determined the target to be dangerous.

An ordinary person would go out of their way to avoid them when they saw them from far away, much less attack them.

After he calmed himself down, Wu Peng thought that he was being dumb just then.

The enemy he faced yesterday had been extremely cautious. How could he be this showy during the day?

It was natural that the law enforcers would be here at the scene after the repair team met with misfortune.

It looked like there was no longer a need for him to be here.

Now that he had thought it through, Wu Peng decided to secretly sneak away. He did not wish to have anything to do with the law enforcers.

Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. Wu Peng had just turned around and wanted to retreat when he got spotted by the law enforcer that crawled on the top of the satellite signal receiver.

"I noticed an unidentified person in the southwest direction! He has a weapon in hand!"

The law enforcers immediately became alert when they received the news. All of their weapons were pointed toward Wu Peng.

Wu Peng felt a chill down his spine. He knew that he was being aimed at.

"D*mn it, I really am unlucky!" Wu Peng could not help but curse. However, he did not slow his stride. He wanted to continue to escape.

He heard a string of bullets pierce through the air behind him. A few bullets brushed past Wu Peng's body and hit the ground around him, and sent some dirt and debris flying.

Wu Peng let out a frustrated smile. He turned around and raised the rifle in his hand high up into the air and tossed it to the side.

The law enforcers did not continue to attack when they saw that Wu Peng had no intention of continuing to escape and had tossed his weapon to the side.
