Blind Step Part 9

"You have to focus"

Peters said.

"Focus on the connection to your totem, focus on your connection to it, what it means to you. The memories that you have with it good and bad"

He told them to protect themselves and to combat distorted spirits they had to embrace every little thing attached to there totem, but as the saying goes easier said then done. The 3rd eye didn't just combine the persons senses but it combined every part of that person increasing it to the highest degree. Allowing them to see, touch and feel the unseeable and untouchable likewise there emotions and feelings weren't exempt. It was hard yesterday for them to even hold or even look at there items, what they represented how they were stained there was pain etched into those objects. The girls couldn't even function with out help and encouragement from one another and all that was with there 3rd eye closed.

But when they were holding there totems with there 3rd eye opened those feeling didn't just rise, but they skyrocketed to the surface. It just hurt to much they couldn't embrace a thing because they were trying to slow down the feelings but the speed up faster and faster going all out full cylinders, they closed there 3rd eye with tears pouring out of there physical ones. Rebecca dropped the bracelet while Anya threw the Mickey Mouse wand they collapsed from the physical and emotional exhaustion.

Peters didn't chastise them he didn't poke and prod because even though there situations were different he understood he just went and got them some water. As they drank in complete silence he knelt down and sat with them on the floor, they sat there on the dirty cracked floor in a very comfortable silence all of them remained there for quite awhile before he spoke up.

"Look"

He said in a measured voice.

"I've been through some shit, believe me I have"

He started to play gently with the pacifier around his neck.

"I know the feeling and it felt like Hell when I knew this was my totem"

He glanced at it.

"I won't lie it hurt and it still does but that pain is needed that emotional connection is needed. I'll admit it becomes easier like riding a bike or breathing but that pain will always linger"

"Is it just like this for all ushers"

Anya asked dryly with her head held down refusing to meet his gaze.

"Can't say there have been ushers all around the world at different moments in time but"

He inhaled solemnly.

"I'm pretty sure pain was a factor, for most of them anyway"

He stood up and walked over to grab Anya's wand, when he made it back over to them he bent over picking up the bracelet then knelt back down to his students.

"Look I don't say what I'm saying to be mean but you two wouldn't have come this far through all this training and gathering the most meaningful, painful parts of your lives to just wimp out. I know you two are going to get back up and as your teacher I will give you that push that you need"

He held out there totems.

"Now get back up and try again"

With there heads still held down the girls grabbed there totems and stood back up, there faces were focused and strong Peters smirked at there determined faces a small hint of pride as a instructor hit his heart.

"Now like I said before"

He stood while speaking.

"Give your all to it connect to your totem let it all flow through you even if its painful"

So they did they got back up dusted themselves off and tried again there blindfolds on there 3rd eye open and with tears flowing down there cheeks they did it and on this day here totems were truly born. Within the next two weeks on top of there normal stamina training they had there totem training as well learning how to shape and form there remnant. You see being a usher in training means the girls had to learn the lingo, after connecting to there totems a part of there spirits were imbued within it this spiritual remnant is like clay or water for a usher it can take any shape or form they want it to take.

When there was time Peters educated them on how spiritual weapons don't effect the physical world only the spiritual. When they were able to shape there remnants Peters stared basic self defense training, the more and more they were absorbed in this world the more dense and fully backed there schooling got. But on September 3rd after a long day of training Peters informed them.

"You two won't becoming back here anymore"

Bewildered they asked.

"But... why"

"Because in these past few months you needed a solid understanding on what a usher will need, you've got your 3rd eye open with your stamina and vision with it increasing greatly, you also have your totems your remnant manipulation is still kinda weak and you two are still at the level of beginners but you have enough experience to train in your own time"

"So what are we doing tomorrow"

Anya felt stupid asking a question she was pretty sure she knew the answer to and the answer he gave is the one she knew.

"Well I'm a usher and you two are ushers in training so put two and two together what were doing is going to involve a spirit"

[Why did I even ask] she thought feeling stupid.

"So where are we going"

Rebecca followed up with a actually decent question.

"Not sure"

He replied with a straight unreadable face.

"Oh so were going to just walk around town looking for ghost"

Rebecca said with a mouth full of sass.

"I mean back in the olden days its how it use to be, but no will find out from dispatch tomorrow.. oh and you too don't have to come back here I'll be picking you both up so be ready at a moments.. also make sure your wearing all black"

"Why all black"

Second times the charm and Anya asked a better question.

"Its not a really a rule but because of are line of work everyone wears all black on missions, it doesn't matter what it is as long as it all black. Now you two get going I've gotta pack up all this"

He spread his hand around the room the same shit room that became there classroom for the first few months and after today they would no longer come here. Regardless of the way it looked in it's own way it was home and they wouldn't admit they would miss.

"Hey so you want to hit up the mall I don't have any black beanies or shoes plus I'm starving"

Rebecca asked while the two stepped outside.

"Sure I'm game"

So they shopped, they ate and they chatted the entire time. It was the perfect end to the day and after this the days of preparations were over and there first true step as ushers would begin tomorrow.
