David groggily woke up, covering his eyes from the sun as he forgot to close the blinds. Yawning and stretching for a few minutes, he quickly wakes up and exits the inn.
"Right. Need to register for the Adventurer's guild today." David reminded himself.
Walking out of the inn, David walked to the inner part of the bustling city to find a large building with a massive sign saying "Adventurer's Guild" on its front wall.
The adventurer's guild was an extremely large building that looked like any other adventurer's guild in some sort of anime. A wide white brick or stone 3 story building with some red roof tiles as their roof. They also had a crest, the same one from the city gates and a small clock above it. As it was Uesta's only adventurer's guild, it was also made from some rare materials which seemed to be refined by mana which David could sense from his bloodline and an extensive amount of experience with magic.
David took a deep breath and walked into the Adventurer's guild and looked around.
The interior was as he imagined. Wood floors, stone pillars, a large board full of neatly filled paper which seemed to be full of quests, a large receptionist desk in the front, with at least 3 receptionists attending to other adventurers.
Because of his unusual demi-human race, he did attract some attention from some of the other guild members and adventurers, causing some whispers, making David slightly uncomfortable.
'Is this good or bad? Most likely bad, even if this is a neutral nation, there's bound to be some human supremacists for some reason...' David stiffened, but walked to the receptionist.
"Hello, how may I help you today?" The receptionist was wearing a navy blue vest coupled with a white shirt where the shoulders were puffed up and the armholes had frills at the end. They also wore a yellow bowtie and wore a tight black skirt, accentuating their figures.
"Hello, I would like to become an adventurer, here are my documents." David handed her a copy of his document papers.
"Mn. You are qualified... come with me." the receptionist walked to a private hallway in the guild, revealing multiple colored portals.
David was surprised, as he thought they would just be walking to an arena, with some instructor waiting for them.
Pointing to the portals, the receptionist explained, "These portals here will be able to help you travel around for places like the arena, guild shop, and etcetera. Don't worry, we do not charge the adventurer's here for the use of these portals."
Nodding at her brief explanation, they walked into the first portal.
Arriving at their destination, David curiously looked around the arena, it was a large elevated octagon-shaped platform made out of mana enhanced tiles with a small 20 feet area all around it, where it would be considered a ring out and at the ends of those "ring out" areas, there were small transparent barriers.
"There are no stands here, why is that?" David asked while walking with the receptionist.
"That is because this is one of the private arenas, purely made for testing new adventurers." she replied.
"Got it." David clenched his fists, smirking, sensing a great pressure from the platform.
Walking up to the stairs of the platform, the receptionist stopped, "We've arrived, your test will begin as soon as you step both of your feet in the arena."
Nodding, David was now on full alert, slowly walking up the stairs. As he got closer to the top, he gulped and his eyes brightened in excitement.
Drawing his sword as soon as he reached the platform, the silhouette in front of him disappeared.
David sensed danger on his right side and stabilized his footing just in time to parry the instructor's strike.
The instructor disappeared again and kept reappearing on the sides of David, constantly poking at his least defended areas.
"Oho? Not bad kid... your able to parry so many of my strikes... Again!" he shouted, but this time, David was already in front of him and slashed.
The instructor dodged and kicked David in the stomach, sending him flying through the arena.
'Strong!' David gritted his teeth, clenched his sword, and furrowed his brows before stabbing the sword into the tiles, stopping him from falling out of the arena, kicking up dust everywhere.
Using this chance, David quickly used his magic to search for the instructor, and after he found his magic signature, he locked onto it and dashed forward. Using even more of his mana to slightly change the floor, his steps were now silent, making it harder for the instructor to know where he was going.
David arrived right in front of the instructor and was ready to swing, but due to his enemy's experience in fighting, he blocked David's strike and stably regained his balance.
'He's good! Let's kick it up a notch!' David poured some mana into the sword, as he would with his claws, the sword now had an aura of wind around it as he sweeped the dust clean off the arena, standing before the instructor.
David stood straight as a spear as he didn't have any real stances to use while the instructor had already started to run towards him, now with two daggers instead of a shortsword.
Frowning, David reacted quickly as soon as he threw one of his daggers, slightly grazing his cheek as it was imbued with some nomad mana.
"Tch." David grabbed the dagger mid-air and threw it back at the instructor, which he dodged, leaving it in one of the cracked tiles.
'I wonder what rank he's in.' David steadied himself again, looking at him warily, waiting for a chance to attack.
Seeing that the instructor dashed towards him again, David also dashed towards him and they clashed in a fury, blocking and parrying each other's attacks.
After a while, David prevailed as he had more opportunities to learn about his attack patterns and also because the stamina he was using was recovering as well, lowering his stamina usage by a large margin, but it still made him tired nonetheless.
Clashing for multiple minutes, David won by outlasting the instructor, although barely by kicking him off the platform.
"Huff...huff...huff... guh... did I pass?" David had his hands on his knees, panting with sweat running down his face, giving a certain glow to his face.
"Mn. You... passed." The instructor lifted his hood, showing an average light-skinned and black-haired middle-aged man smiling at him.
Seeing that they were done, the receptionist that was recording everything for evidence was quite surprised at how strong and agile he was since he was fighting a C class adventurer, one of the higher ranking adventurers at the guild currently.
She snapped out of her daze seeing that they were walking towards her. She quickly calmed down and had David follow her back to a room where she had him place his hands on an orb before a card formed in front of him.
"Here you are. Although you defeated a high ranking adventurer, you still need to begin from the very bottom, it is to help adventurers hone their skills outside of combat, please understand." the receptionist bowed.
"Eh? It's ok! I'm fine with this, I'm happy to be successfully registered already! Thank you!" David smiled brightly before leaving, putting the receptionist in a daze.
'Interesting... I wonder how he'll do...' she thought, smiling.
