When Brandon left the hospital back into the open world, life was never the same for him. His father and mother were constantly fighting around the child, they never had found peace between them. It had eventually reached the point of divorce. Dad, tried to get custody, he really did, but it was to no avail due to the psychologist at court. The doctor had ruined his father's chances of getting custody of Brandon, by saying the mother should raise the child. The mother, who never tried helping the boy, got custody of the child. This upset me greatly, but alas, even I cannot fully control the thoughts of others.
It was in the month the May when they officialized the divorce, and began parting their ways. During the moving process, the child felt nothing, emotions were nonexistent for the boy. After the death of his best friend, not being able to see his father, everything was numbed. As the truck was loaded, his dad approached the child;
"Hey there, Brandon."
"Yes sir?"
"You do know none of this, is your fault. Just promise your old dad something?"
"What is it Daddy?"
"Promise me you won't hold any Ill will against your mother or anyone for that matter. You are different, but that is perfectly okay."
"You got it, Daddy, I promise!" Smiling, the two had embraced each other strongly.
"You know what, Brandon? I will see if you can ride with me in the truck, back to Panama City."
"Really?!"
"You betcha, Kiddo." The ride together for them was the best moments Brandon ever remembered of his father. Going the distance in their relationship was key to the remains of the child's psyche.
When the mother and Brandon arrived to his birthplace, of Panama City. Great changes were made as they moved into his grandmother's house.
His grandmother was a wonderful lady, she was working for the government at the time when they returned to Florida. She was quite shocked to see Brandon and his mother to be at her doorstep. She welcomed them in and made them breakfast.
As time pressed on, Brandon's living at his grandmother's house was fine. He hadn't had any serious episodes or blackouts, but it was in the moment that he began school at Cedar Grove Elementary. The triggers began once more.
When he started elementary school in the sencond grade in Mrs Kurbec's class, Brandon could already feel the dislike from the children. They knew he was different, a weird kid. So they did what any school child would do, they bullied him and that angered me to no end. The child was put to tears from their constant mockery. I had enough from his mother, and now having to deal with these little shits? I knew how to rectify the situation, with minimum consequences.
But before I intervened, a little girl named Melissa befriended Brandon, told everyone to leave the crying child alone. Brandon began feeling again, having happiness, that same happiness that he had shared with Roger. Melissa and Brandon were inseparable, she took him to the nurse's office so he could have his blood sugars monitored. They played on the playground together, and even sat next to each other during class and lunch break.
Then a thought came unto me, this girl, this girl is integral to him. The bond that they share now...will only be strengthened exponentially as their path's progress further.
This is wonderful.
