The Story of Klyran (5)

Once the explanation finished, the Ryan did as instructed. He concentrated on what was happening around him. He felt the gentle whispers of Ranya maintaining the spell on his eyes, but he couldn't fell Midryl. It was as if he wasn't even there. At some point, Klyran even opened his eyes only to see that the other black-haired boy was still with them. The 3 of them spend the whole day like that, but without results.

"Don't be too disappointed" Ranya said at the end of the day, "This skill takes time."

"Yeah" Midryl agreed, "Nobody ever mastered it in a single day."

"How long it took the two of you?" Klyran then asked.

"Around a month", Ranya said with a shrug.

"And it was record time as well" Midryl then laughed.

The Ryan only nodded and secretly hoped that he could also learn it in a month. And that is how he spend his days. During the day, Klyran tried would train in the morning and then try to learn the skill in the afternoon. While at night, he would train his swordsmanship as much as he could and then play with the Yakard. At some point, he even felt as if he could understand the tree-man, despite it not speaking the human language.

Then, one day, during their meditation session, Klyran felt something. It was a faint feeling that was there and then gone in a second.

"Good" Midryl then praised him, "I felt your magic latch onto mine for a second there. Concentrate on that feeling."

The Ryan only nodded and tried again. It was a small progress, but it meant the world to him. In three more days, he finally managed to latch onto this feeling and catch it, and when he did, he felt a burning feeling in his eyes.

"You did it!" Ranya exclaimed and then begun praising him with her brother.

"It must be really nice to be a Ryan, you must be able to feel magic more easily" Midryl laughed, while feeling somewhat jealous of his friend.

When Klyran opened his eyes after the burning feeling passed, they were different. They were the same black human eyes, but there were glowing brown patterns now present all over the iris. When the serpent looked around himself, it was as if he was seeing the world for the first time. The sight was completely different from before.

All around him he could see gentle waves, like fabrics of different colours waving around each other. He saw some strong shapes, where those fabrics seemed to gather and strongly hold unto each other. Those were trees, and the constructions. When he looked at the siblings, he saw the same fabrics swirling around them. Some pieces were always there, standing strong. While others would pass through them and then mix again with other. There were also threads of different colours mixed in there. When Klyran looked at his arm, he saw different threads tied around his fingers and moving with the flow. They were tied to different fingers, but were then running up around his arm and going to different parts of his body. He tried to grab one of them and felt a sharp paint when he tried to pull one of them.

'What is this?!' he gasped as he clutched his chest.

"You shouldn't do that" Ranya quickly said, noticing the action.

"Those threads are special" Midryl said, "Never touch them, because they are connected to different parts of you. You can only try and follow them."

Then, the two of them explained to him about the strings. The red string was connecting him to his fated one. Which greatly interested the Ryan and even tempted him to follow it, but he quickly cast aside the idea.

'Who would ever want me like this?' he thought, 'And there is no certainty that its end is in this world.'

The blue, string, according to the siblings, would lead him to his family. There, he noticed four strings, three of which were hanging nearly to the ground, while another one was pulled more tightly. It greatly confused Klyran. Midryl then explained that the closer he was to the person on the other end of the string, the tighter it would stretch. While those who were far away, would make the string hang nearly to the ground.

'... why are there four though?' his eyes narrowed at the strings, 'And one seems closer than the others' this greatly confused him.

The yellow string, represented friendship. He saw quite a few of them around his fingers. Two of which led to the siblings and were stretched to the maximum and made Klyran think that the thread would snap at any moment. According to Ranya, those threads can often chance.

There were also a few dark green strings going in multiple directions. Those apparently, were string connecting him to people that he had a connection with, but will most likely never meet again. It made the young serpent think of the kind old lady that helped him when he first arrived to this world. As well as the villagers that would shelter him for the night and gave him food.

According to the two siblings, there was also an orange string that would appear when he will have children. And finally, there was one purple string, which surprised the two Greenyards. According to them, that colour was rare. It would lead him to the person who will help him awaken in this lifetime and almost never appeared normally. In Klyran's case, the string was neither hanging, nor was it stretched. It also led in the direction of the mines.

'To where the Kenman was', his mind supplied.

The three of them spend the rest of the say speaking about the skill and the various things that Klyran could see. The next day, the Ryan trained to walk around with the Eyes of Teria activated, to learn to navigate with them.

Their combat lesson also took a new turn. The siblings urged Klyran to use the new skill whenever they fought. According to the two of them, it was the fastest way for someone to learn to use it efficiently. At first, it confused the Ryan, but then, he noticed at the end of the first day how he unconsciously started moving his body along the flow of the magical energy that surrounded him. How he could use it to determine where a tree was, or how to dodge an incoming attack.

"You are a fast learner" Ranya then complimented.

After those words, Klyran happily observed his status, wishing to see how much he truly improved.

He was very happy with the results. Compared to what his status was when he only came to this world, he was now much stronger. When he compared his development to that of the two siblings he was surprised to see that their own numbers increased only by one in terms of attack, defence and accuracy. Compared to them, his own development was incredibly fast.

"Maybe its the system", Midryl then shrugged, "Maybe this skill allows you to develop faster"

"That or maybe it's because you are a Ryan…Which…You know…Is technically considered a God in this world" Ranya then added.

Regardless the reason, Klyran was no longer sure that he was so happy. A part of him now wished that his friends could also grow as fast as he did.

'I feel like it's unfair...' he looked at the window and for the first time since he gained the skill, wished that it wasn't there.

The next morning, the rave-haired boy was roughly awakened by the twins.

"Wake up!" Ranya said with a grin.

"We decide…" Midryl begun saying.

"That if you want to take the Trial of Courage…" Ranya continued for him.

"It's now or never!" her brother then finished excited.

The two then quickly said that Klyran was in luck, since the trial took place only once a year and he managed to catch it this year.

They didn't tell him much about the trial and even avoided the topic.

"I know that I have to jump off a cliff" the Ryan then said with a sigh, "But more information would be appreciated"

This surprised the two, since they knew for one that nobody in the village ever told him about the test. According to Midryl, the two of them planned to explain everything on the way, but since Klyran apparently knew the first part, they decided to do it now.

The Trial of Courage consisted of two parts. The first one, as the name implied, required courage. Nobody who was afraid would ever jump off the cliff. The jump was also where the Eyes of Teria would come into play. Klyran was supposed to determine the position of the trees and branches using those eyes and not fall to his death.

"Though the Yakards help us and catch those who fail" Midryl then assured.

The second part of the test was a sort of race. There would be other Greenyards stationed on the trees. One for each participant. Their role would be to try and pin him down. There, Klyran was supposed to dodged incoming arrows while safely running across the forest. He would pass if he safely ran the distance to the finish point, without being caught.

"Simple right?" Ranya then said and clapped his shoulder.

'Nothing is ever simple when you say it like that' the Ryan sighed.

"Who told you about the Trial?" Midryl then asked curiously.

"A Yakard did" Klyran then said sipping his tea.

"A…Yakard?" Ranya then asked confused.

Then, he told the twins about what he did every night. About the Yakard that would join him and help him train.

"Though I think that it was more of a game for him... or her" Klyran then said as an afterthought.

He also told them about the tree-man's actions when he asked it about the trial. And also about how after all those nights, he started to somewhat understand the Yakard even if the two of them spoke different languages.
