The Un Expected Fate

Mike was sitting in his apartment with David. Both were immersed in their own grieves when Jeff called them "Hey Guys, I have made some sweet potatoes shepherd pie. Let us have dinner.

Mike looked at him with a frown face and said "I am not in the mood."

" I am not hungry," David added

"And I have cooked it by standing in the kitchen for 2 hours. Both of you get your butts out of the couch and join me for dinner." Jeff shouted

"You carry on Jeff," Mike said in a sad voice

"Fine. I will also not eat." Jeff said standing cross-handed

"What are you Jeff...14 years teenager?" David asked

"whatever...but I am not eating until you guys join."

"Fine...Mike lets eat..I don't want Jeff to starve coz of us."

"Fine."

All of them were having dinner when Mike's phone buzzed.

He checked and It was Mary.

Mike picked up the phone.

"Hey, Mike. Guess what?"

"You are able to get Catherine's fingerprints?"

"No. But luckily Alandra's laptop webcam was on and we could see Catherine in it. This will be enough to prove your innocence."

"Great. And what about fingerprints?"

"She is smart Mike. She used hand gloves while typing the mail. But all these can be seen in cam footage. I have copied the footage on my phone. I will WhatsApp you."

"Sure. You don't know how relieved I am."

" I can understand."

"Hey. What are you doing now?"

"Going to my apartment."

"Ok. Did you have dinner?"

"I will grab a takeaway on my way home."

"why don't you come to our apartment for dinner? Jeff has made amazing sweet potato shepherd pie."

"I am sorry. I can't. Have an early morning tomorrow. Two surgeries are scheduled."

"Ok. No Problem. Take care."

After the phone call ended Mike came back to the dinner table and announced "Hey Guys. Guess what. We found evidence against Catherine.".

"Wow. So the fingerprints matched?" David asked

"No. she used hand gloves while typing."

"How do you know this...until you have seen her typing on the laptop?" Jeff said thinking about the possibility of the situation.

" Exactly. Alandra's laptop's webcam was on and it recorded everything."

"Wow this is so good and effective than fingerprints," David said with excitement

"Exactly. Mary has sent me the footage on WhatsApp. See."

Mike showed them the footage. As they are watching the footage, Mike's phone rang again. He saw the name Mary flashing on the screen. He wondered if Mary has a change of plan and is coming for dinner.

He picked up the call only to hear the voice of a random guy.

" Hello"

" Hi. I am Jamie. I am calling to inform you about the accident that has taken place at Bastian Road."

"A-accident?"

" Yes. There is a car accident which has taken place. One car which was speeding has collided with the car. I am using the phone which I found in the car. I could see the last dialed number for you so thought of contacting you."

"where is she? How is she?"

Both the girls have been rushed to Cathedral Hospital.

"Both?"

"Yes. In other speeding car also there was a girl too. Both girls are severely injured."

Mike disconnected the call and asked Jeff to take out his car and rush to Cathedral hospital.

"what's the matter, Mike?" David asked

"Mary has been met with an accident," Mike said sounding panicked

All of them left Mike's apartment and rushed to Cathedral hospital. As they reached the hospital Mike ran towards the reception area and asked if any girl has been bought to the hospital in an accident case. The receptionist checked the computer screen and informed Mike to go to the 6th floor.

All of them hurried and reached the 6th floor and asked for the accident case. They were guided by the receptionist to go to room 602. As they reached outside the room they saw the room was locked and there were doctors and nurses inside the room. Mike peeped into the room through the transparent glass frame present on the door. He saw there were 2 beds where 2 girls are lying in a pool of blood unconscious. The nurses are cleaning their wounds and injecting blood and glucose bottles and putting the girls on ventilators. Mike saw Mary's face where bruises were clearly visible. Seeing Mary in miserable condition his blood started boiling with anger. He angrily looked towards the other girl who was lying in the same room. He was shocked to see none other than Catherine lying on the other bed.

What is Catherine doing here? Was it Catherine who collided with Mary's car? Did she do it on purpose to hurt me? He came and sat on the waiting area couch.

"What happened, Mike?" Jeff asked seeing Mike immersed in his thought

David went and peeped through the door and understood the entire situation. He came near Mike and said, "it's not your fault Mike."

Mike stood up from the chair and almost shouted "Really David? It is my damn fault. Mary is in this condition because of me. I was stupid enough to get close to Catherine. And now Mary is lying in the hospital bed. Instead of treating patients and doing surgeries she is lying on bed and hanging between life and death."

"But what is Catherine doing at Bastian road?" David asked

"How would I know." Mike shrugged

All 3 of them waiting for an hour after which the doctor came out of the room and informed them that both girls are in critical condition and need to be shifted to ICU.

A tear dropped from Mike's eyes. Jeff looked at the time. It was 6 am now. Jeff suggested both David and Mike to go home and get ready since it was Mike's HR meeting today. Mike didn't want to leave but at this point, he didn't have any choice. So he and David exited the hospital.
