Chapter 3
Dawn -
Cameran and I actually got along really well and it brought me a great sense of relief to have made a friend and not feel so alone.
I didn't get much time to talk with her girlfriend Lucelia, but she seemed very very nice as well.
We went to the dining hall in our given time slot, but I did not feel much like eating.
I grabbed a pre-made salad and waited on Cameran so that we could find somewhere to sit together.
It wasn't very long after we sat down that the headmistress approached our table.
Headmistress: ‘Ladies.’
‘Headmistress.’
We said in unison.
Headmistress: ‘I know that I conducted your interview, but I can't recall your name.’
She was facing Cameran.
Cameran: ‘Cameran Ma'am.’
Headmistress: ‘It looks as though you have a very well balanced lunch Cameran. Salad, chicken, fruit, with macaroni and cheese.’
Cameran: ‘Thank you Ma'am, my Ma'am insists on it.’
Headmistress: ‘Very good, I wish I could say your friend Dawn was doing as well.’
I looked up concerned.
Headmistress: ‘If you are unable to make better selections for your meals, stop by my office and I will be happy to help guide you.’
‘I'm, um, I'm...’
Headmistress: ‘Many people see salad as a healthy choice, however you've chosen one with practically no protein. It's greens with a small bit of cheese basically. If you go to the buffet there are several choices of things you could add to that so it would be much better for you, much more balanced.’
‘Yes Ma'am, I can go do that now.’
Headmistress: ‘Very good, you ladies enjoy your lunch.’
Cameran and I just looked at each other.
Cameran: ‘You probably want to do as she says.’
‘Yeah, do you need anything while I'm up?’
She examined her tray.
Cameran: ‘I could use some more dressing for my salad if you don't mind. I can totally get it though...’
‘I'm already getting up, it's no issue.’
Cameran: ‘Thanks.’
I got up and headed to the salad buffet.
Trying to make sure I brought balance to my salad I got small portions of a variety of items.
Chicken, extra cheese, bacon crumble, sunflower seeds, hard boiled eggs and of course extra dressing for Cameran.
As odd as it was to be called out by the headmistress, it brought on a welcome relief.
Lucelia was kissing Cameran when I got back to our table.
Lucelia: ‘Seems like you've already gotten the attention of the headmistress, good job.’
She said playfully as I sat down.
‘I've never been great with food by myself honestly. How has your day been?’
Lucelia: ‘Different for sure, but in a good way. I'm really excited honestly.’
‘Well good.’
Cameran: ‘So can I ask you what brings you here besides the obvious?’
‘My ex wife, well, my late wife I guess would be more accurate. We didn't even know what it meant, but we were basically in a total power exchange. She picked out my outfit everyday, told me what to make for every meal, she was basically in control of everything. We were just starting to research things when we found out she was sick. She said even if it wasn't with her, she wanted me to explore this. She found this place, and said I should apply. I wanted to, but I was conflicted. I wasn't sure if I wanted to explore this without her. It turns out that after she passed away at the end of Spring she had part of her life insurance put into a separate account just for tuition, housing, and all of that. I still didn't know though, I was scared that my parents might find out even though the academy is really careful. Then, they were killed in a car accident this summer so I submitted an application even though the deadline had passed.’
They gave me the look everyone does when they find out I'm a twenty-two year old widow.
‘I'm sorry, I should have made up something. I can, I can actually eat somewhere else, this is weird now, I'm sorry.’
I started to get up, but Cameran grabbed my hand.
Cameran: ‘Please don't go. It's ok, really.’
I nodded and silently started to add the extra ingredients to my salad.
Lucelia: ‘I'm taking Cameran to get dessert after dinner off campus. Why don't you join us?’
‘Sure, that would be nice, thank you.’
