"What?"

"She slumped."

"When word got out that Kaeden was missing. Her heart couldn't take it." Kalon explains. "Her first child was kidnapped without a trace and now the second's missing? All in the span of five days."

"No no no." I rub my temple. "This can't be happening. Is she okay?"

"Well, they're trying to keep her stable but she's still unconscious."

"I have to go see her." I get up abruptly, gathering my skirts.

"You can't!" She holds me back. "The physician has advised everyone not to for now. And father said-

"I don't care what father said." My outburst causes Kalon to shrink back. "He locked me in here knowing my mother is sick and almost on her deathbed. When every passing second should be spent by her side, praying to The Light that she'll be okay." Shaking my head I give a humorless laugh. "I can't believe this is happening." They both stay silent, watching me pace back and forth.
