Chapter Thirteen

"We have hidden ourselves for too long. We need to contact the outside world for help" Xhom said. " You mean? " Nuus asked trying to confirm his assumptions. "Send a letter to Burspor asking them to help us. Independence cannot save us. We need help" Xhom said. Nuus understood what the chief meant. He hurried away as quick as his short legs could carry him. Winged creatures have been their enemies from the beginning of time. After ordering the message to be sent, he hurried to the scenes to try and rescue or kill who he can kill. The war would take long because the dwarfs are many and they don't give up easily. That alone gave him strength.

"Two souls...Two destinies...Death or Salvation...fate of the world in their hands...Son and daughter of the soil..."

Maggie's eyes became normal. It's been long since she had a vision. She was worried about her powers being gone but after this, she was sure they were still here. She knew what the vision mean. The fate of the world is in the hands of a man and a woman but the question is, "who are they? Where are they from".

She stood up from her personal space in the temple and headed to the room. She checked Afua's former room and sat on her bed. She missed the girl. She had grown to like her like a little sister. As a seer, it's hard for her to marry but Afua was the next thing to family for her. She was directed to take her to the camp as a healer. She didn't know it would become like this. She meant to only help her with her healing ability. The girl decided to put it into use by going to camp and she had no choice but to let her go. She left the room and focused more on the vision she had. She knew she must find out who the ones in the vision are. The fate of the world depends on them and she must do this secretly.

"My king! A letter from Xhom." The royal messenger said as he got close to the king's throne. " Who's Xhom?" Xander asked and turning towards the messenger. The messenger need not greet the king as he was always close to him whenever he was in the throne room. "I believe he is the leader of the dwarves, Sir" the Messenger answered. " What do they want with us? I thought they didn't want anything with humans " Xander asked again. " They need our help. They claim that they are u see attack from Nijerees- the winged creatures" the messenger responded. " Nijerees? Well, would it be good to have them as an ally. The dwarves could be used for good labour but they are a pack of diseases" Xander thought. " Tell them we can't help them. We have more pressing matters" Xander said and turned away. The messenger bowed and left the court. " I'd rather have a healthy city than a plague. The dwarves can stay hidden like they were before" He thought and smiled.

" Why won't these lowly things give up?" Xypher asked as he removed his swords from the heart of a young dwarf who was spouting blood from his mouth. "We will never die. We will come back for you all" the dwarf said and died. " You couldn't save yourself and you claim to come back for me" Xypher laughed and ran to other dwarves. He looked around and saw that the number of the dwarves keep increasing.

The battle has been going on for three days and there is still more to come. He flew to his commander and shouted "Lets rest for today. We will come back later. The number is too much. We miscalculated. There is a limit to our strength if we fly and fight". The commander nodded and shouted orders to his army. Everyone stopped and turned towards Xypher. He led them out of the field. This battle was over. It wasn't a win but they have done much damage to the dwarves. At least more than five thousand (5,000) dwarves are dead.

There was silence in the dwarf's camp. They have lost so many comrades. Families were shattered. The reason why they laid low was to avoid this but now the stain of the outside world have affected them also. The Nijerees never had a serious reason to attack them like before. A young dwarf rushed inside and handed a letter to Xhom.

Xhom fell from his chair after reading the contents of the letter. Everyone was shocked. They all looked at Xhom. "They will not help us. The blacks turned us down. We are on our own" Xhom said. The dwarves all screamed in pain. They had no hope. When next Nijerees attack, it will be the end of them all. "What will we do?" One of the older dwarves asked. " Pray and wait. We are only good for labour and not war" Xhom said looking away.

"Old man! Oldman!" A black guard said when he noticed Afri lying on the ground. He moved closer and kicked him a little. There was no response.

He bent down and checked if he was breathing and he wasn't. He shouted to the other guys to come and help him. "He is dead" one of them said. "How? Should we let the leader know?" Another asked. " Yes. We must tell him" the first one answered. He was chosen to tell Baptiste about the death of Afri. Baptiste rose up and ran to the scene. He may have hated Afri but he respected him. "What happened? How did he die?" He asked. " I saw him lying on the ground and I tried to wake him up" the black guard said. Baptiste moved closer and confirmed also. "Take him to the Infirmary and check. Tell others to get to work" he said. They lifted Afri and left the scene. " This shouldn't be how a very good warrior should die. He deserves a better send off" Baptiste thought and headed back to his quarters. This was the end of Afri- Yellow's great commander.
