Those stories had filled me with fear. The type of fear that lived within you and grew with you. The fears that turned into shadows, following right behind you.

The fear of who I was, and what I was capable of.

That fear. 

Of being hated.

They hated me. I knew it because I heard the stories they told of people like me... People who had one foot in the real world, and another foot in the shadow world. 

I was one of them. A mlezi. I didn't know what would outrage my people more... Being a spirit of dark element or their princess?

Whatever their reaction was, I knew my days were numbered in this kingdom.

It was not safe for me to be out here in daylight, but I had to. One, because I had to stop Nyoka's crowning ceremony, and two, I had no place to stay. Igor had me kicked out of his place. I never thought I would be doing this, but my only place of refuge was Shani's place. If I could get there on time, maybe I could think my plan through and prepare my attack. The crowning ceremony was going to start at sundown. I had to reach the kingdom before then if I wanted to challenge him. 


The way to Shani's place was just as I remembered. It was as if she knew I would need to come there. I finally had reached her house. The door was not locked, surprisingly. As I twisted the doorknob, a terrifying thought crossed my mind.
